There is a way in between. I am no Atheist... but I am no Theist either... I see myself as a Deist which means that I do think there is an intelligent power that started everything but after that let it be (it is just one of many views a Deist has... it is actually a lot broader then that). I have respect for both views and I hate the fact that people are battling each other for it (if you may call it a battle). At the end it all comes to "respect" and both atheist and religionist should express respect imho.

Why does it matter?
by tenyearsafter ini have been on this forum for a number of years now, and one thing that seems to be a persisting theme is the "battle" between atheists and believers.. what i have not understood is the extent to which the supporters of either side engage in showing their position to be the correct one...and in turn debunking and demeaning the opposing position, or in many cases, insulting the intelligence of the holder of opposing belief.
i guess the simple question is, why?
does it really matter, or cause harm to be a supporter of either side of the coin?

How to prove God does not exist?
by UBM101 inmany times (almost all the time) atheists asking for proof of god's existence from those who believe that god exists.
perhaps at times they should prove he doesn't exist.
any taker?

I think you do not totally understand. Since a Atheist sees there is no proof of the existence of god then he does not exist. The one who says he DOES exist need to give the proof. That is the scientific aproach.

Watchtower admonitions against unofficial pro-JW websites
by Londo111 ina friend of mine asked, "do you recall a watchtower or km that said the jw's are not suppose to read, or post information in defense of the watchtower on their own personal website or anyone elses website?".
of course, there is the july 15, 2011 watchtower: what is involved in avoiding false teachers?
we do not receive them into our homes or greet them.

Guilty and Stupid
by Ucantnome inwhenever i post on this site i feel really guilty and stupid.
i think after i post that's it i'm never posting again (probably be a good idea) .
does anyone else feel like this?

Keep posting... you will feel less guilty and less stupid by doing so (and reading posts). However... When you do it enough you will feel guilty and stupid again... guilty and stupid you ever walked in the snares of the WTBS
After that it will eventually come: freedom

Letting go of trying to convince people makes you happy
by DeWandelaar ini am a thinker... and i was thinking a lot lately about (the absense of) god and about my past years as a witness and suddenly it striked me: the less i think about a caring god being in existence the more happy and relaxed i am.
also the fact that if he is there then i will notice it one day... i am not afraid of anything godlike in any way.
while exploring that feeling i was also noticing something.

You can try to help these people instead of bashing the ones who are causing trouble. I am not saying you should not do it at some point. I am just saying that it has no use. Normally these people are not open for well enough debates (just like a lot of JW) because they are convinced of their own wisdom. With that arrogance in mind you will see it has no use to even try. It is simply a waste of energy. The only thing that may work is to let people "think". Asking questions and let them figure out the answers... the once who do will actually become a lot smarter and maybe a better person.

There is always irony Adamah. There are not too many people I am talking about this unless they are on this forum. I have seen differences in my person within a year which i never thought would happen. Life is a journey... And i finally see it is not the goal itself that makes life worthwhile but the journey. Most witnesses just look at a goal. If it makes them happy it is ok with me... But for me it is not enough :)

Also the fact that IF he is there then I will notice it one day... I am not afraid of anything godlike in any way. While exploring that feeling I was also noticing something. I am more happy at the moments I just let people think what they want to think about being a JW or being religious. Letting go of anything that is related to these issues really helps me. It does not hurt me anymore that people believe something different or don't believe at all. I am starting to see a shitload of goodness in many, many people. Religious or not... it does not matter.
Now I read less often at this forum (mostly I read here when I am bored) and I see all kinds of people battling about a lot of things, discussing faith etc etc and although it still seems interesting it just snoops away a shitload of energy. My idea now is that it is time to let it go... I just let everyone be whoever they want to be. I do not see any sense in taking away someone's faith in anything. So NO anti-witnessing calls from me... NO discussions with anyone that is related to religion unless someone truly want to talk about it to empty a burdened soul.
I am happy with it... I am free (although in fading mode) because there is no force or religion on this planet that can keep me in custody. I am a free spirit! Hoorayyyyyyy

Why Eve sinned (WT 8/2013)
by EdenOne inadamah brought up in another thread an issue i wasn't aware of, and i thought it merged well with something i've been pondering about.
it revolves around the deeper reasons why satan was successful in persuading eve to eat from the forbidden fruit.
why was eve persuaded to disobey god?.

If the writer of Genesis was still alive he would laugh his ass off if he knew would actually believe it was taken litural. It is a story that is taken from babylonical stories... Stories of people who believed in multiple deities. Do research on Genesis. Now THAT would open your eyes!

Are JW's scared of visiting apostate websites?
by yadda yadda 2 ini believe they are.
i think it's their biggest fear besides dying at armageddon.. there's a saying that anyone who reads ray franz's books is never the same again.
i think many jw's secretly know that there is information out there that would almost certaintly seriously damage their truth in their religion, and they are terrified of it.. they would rather keep their heads firmly stuck in the sand than even take a peek at critical information that might begin a slippery slope leading to the collapse of their unique worldview.. jw doing their version of the islam prayer:.

Dear Emeth,
If you are happy with the choices you make then I wish you all the happiness you have :) At the end I think the pursuit of happiness is one of the key values in life. For most of us here it is NOT the society of jehovah's witnesses. For some unfortunately it is.
