Attention Governing Body: October 2, 2014 is only 940 days away...
by Alfred inin 1823, john aquila brown (a man who is not mentioned in any wt publication) came up with a bizarre mathematical calculation which totalled 2,520 years (in an unauthorized attempt to predict the end of the gentile times).... several religions recycled this bizarre calculation, including the adventists and the bible students... when armageddon didn't come on the variety of early 20th century dates predicted by several "dooms-day" religions of that time (including charles taze russell's bible students who predicted that the big a would start in 1914), they all finally realized that this 2,520-year calculation was nothing more than arbitrary mathematical speculation derived from erratic biblical extrapolation.... except for the bible students who continued to move up the date for armageddon 2 more times (1918, 1925) and then decided to use wwi as the starting point for the "last days".. all the while, one thing that seems to remain intact is the october 2, 1914 date.
oddly, for the watchtower bible & tract publishing cult, this particular date still marks the end of the 2,520-year period (that john aquila brown referred to in his bizarre 1823 book "the even tide")... again, no mention of this in any watchtower publication.
but, for jws, that date still remains the starting point for the period of time often referred to as the "last days" or even "the generation that shall not pass".. because of this, the governing body has been forced to change the definition of "the generation that shall not pass" countless times since the early 1970's.

Did You Ever Learn Anything From The Meetings?
by minimus ini found the meetings to be especially boring from the late 1980s on.
before that, we actually tried to make people want to listen.
the meetings were pretty interesting.

I have seen a couple of fragments and I am impressed. Especially the garden of eden theory seems reasonable (need to finish that one yet) especially when taking the time it was written in context.

Will watch the video's later. There is actually a lot of evidence and directions to know that the israelites were polytheistic (abraham's family had more gods and even images... also jacobs wife had a image of a god with her. I have written earlier about the use of the bull's as a God which originated in Canaan (El deity) en the worship of Asherah (there are some amazing articles on this site about that!).
What striked me as strange also was the fact that after the "false idol" at the mount of sinai the levites were ordered to butcher 3000 people while God himself did not tell moses to do so did he? I mean... he had stricken down a shitload of israelites years later and had wasted an whole entire army of egyptians and he could not kill these idol worshippers himself? You see? Why would moses butcher them (IF he ever existed that is)?
No... Genesis and the whole torah were written long after these socalled events.

I am sorry this is happening to you. My point of view is this one:
Your kids are yours... not hers. If she shuns you as a consequence of you DA/DF (or fading) she needs also bear the consequences of the shunning part (not seeing the people that are attached to you). JW's are mostly people who think in rights but not in obligations.
Since they are your kids they need to play according to your rules.
Stand up for yourself ;)

Phizzy, I totally agree with what you are saying but still... my eyes are not fooling me... I see that a lot of things that are surely are not natural are occuring. I do not believe in bible and quran prophecies BUT it IS disturbing what is happening!
In denmark and scandinavia they had the warmest winter in a LONGGGG time while in our country our butts were freezing off (AND also in a later period). In tropical lands hail and snow is occuring! They never even saw that in their lifetime! At least something is swifting so I was wondering if there is a scientific reason why this is occuring?

I was having a short conversation with my neighbour. They are very nice people and they are Moslim. Because the weather is getting more extremer by the day (all over the world) and it was cold this morning I started talking about the weather. That I kind of feel that the seasons are somehow "shifting". Last year for example winter took more then a month longer than it was before and plantgrowth was delaying by about two months. That is most extrordinary.
Then she told me: "well... according to the Quran and the Bible these things would happen in the time of the end. Now it is even snowing in Sauodi Arabia which never occurs. They are signs that the end is near".
I know that many organisations around the globe are talking about the end. Not only witnesses but also muslims and christian denominations. I have pasted something about the blood moons a couple of times and for some reason, although i take it with quite a bit of salt, it somehow "tugs" on my brain. Not that I am scared or worried too much... but the questions arises... what if it IS the end (not saying that it necessarily is the JW version of the end)?!
It somehow is still interesting... but also depressing

Talking with a nonbeliever...
by suavojr inin my search for the truth and the burning desire to become free from all forms of dogma and wishful thinking.
i have approached my first crossroads in my life, should i continue to believe in a god or not?.
currently i am leaning toward agnosticism, but all the suffering in the world, all the loss and pain in my own life makes it hard for me to simply let go of the idea and hope that at the end justice will prevail, that one day god can make it all good.. .

You say children are not born atheists... but are they borne theists then? They are born and at that point have absolutely no clue... so they get trained to learn whatever the parents are willing to learn. That is where it starts. So... it is all based on references.
When it comes to religion and/or God there are too many assumptions... and assumptions can never be seen as total proof... not even likely proof.
If God is justice then he would never allow (or himself being able) to anihilate the people that are living now. He can not in any way blame people for not believing him. There are simply too many loose ends.
So ... even IF Gods exists, why would he choose for the hard way? And if he wants to be known as a loving God... Why doesn't he do his utmost best to BE loved? It is like an abusive father who kicks te crap out of his kids and demands them to love him... see what I mean?
