Being a JW Kid

i've always felt that the adult jws got off pretty easily compared to jw kids.. for instance: .

my dad went to work, and didn't bother his co-workers with jw stuff.

it wasn't allowed.

Being a JW kid was *AWFUL*. I didn't have the best sense of self-worth back then, and all the derision and loneliness (nobody really wanted to hang out with me, as everyone thought I was weird ) didn't help much either.

Yip, I also stood outside during Assembly and all that other pointless jazz.

The thing is, (I only remembered this now - I'd forgotten it for a long time) was that I DA'd myself about 2 years before I finished school, and it was so weird standing up when everyone else stood up (although I still never sang the anthem or anything like that, because I simply considered stuff like that to be VERY lame in any case).

The United States Knew about 9-11 in advance?

delmart vreeland, a 35-year-old american is in canadian custody for credit card fraud charges.

here's the kicker, he claims to be a lieutenant in a u.s. navy intelligence unit, basically a spy who knew in advance about 9-11.. in his affidavit, he says he tried to warn canadian intelligence about possible terrorist attacks on new york and the pentagon, along with targets in ottawa and toronto, but was written off as a petty criminal.

so he wrote the warning on a piece of paper, sealed it in an envelope, and handed it to jail guards a month before the attacks.

Hmm...I suppose everyone here knows that Hitler used a 'terrorist' event (some government building was burnt down, and he blamed it on terrorists), to get his ass into power. He signed in many laws, supposedly to preserve the 'state of the reich' or something equally ridiculous, and we all know what happened immediately after that, now don't we?

A story of brotherly love.....

since i've been here, from around july, 2001, i haven't really shared any personal experiences of why i left the society, except for the story about my sister who committed suicide.

this is kind of long, so i will tell it in parts.

if this is god's organization, i will gladly be a devil worshiper.. here goes....... when i was about 27 years old, (around 1984) after my divorce, i'd moved from laurens, south carolina back to andrews, sc, and rented the house beside my grandmother.

JW's in the '40s and '50s

i was thinking about what is was like growing up as a jw in the 40's and 50's.

some things were easier, some were harder.. easier.

Damn - I can't even begin to imagine living back then. I was born in a world already filled with the silent screaming of electronics in 1982 - back then a lot of people didn't even have TV!

My great-grandfather once showed me a shirt that he got as a gift from a friend in America in 1942 - apparently it wasn't an expensive shirt at the time - and the stitching was much finer than anything you can get at a department store today. In fact, you'd have to go to a tailor to get that sort of stitching today, or buy Armani! My great-grandfather told me how FLIMSY everything seems to be today - he calls this time the 'Disposable Era'.

I do think it's really cool that more mature people like you guys inhabit these forums - it gives them an interesting slant at times! Since most of my time on the Internet is usually spent chatting with pimply teenagers, this is quite a change...I don't think I'd survive for 10 minutes in 1942.

Although I would ensure I was in Roswell, New Mexico, in 1947. Hehe! During my time in the Society nothing changed much - only a couple of minor things, which I can't even remember anymore. I think pretty much the biggest thing was that they stopped serving food at conventions, and you had to bring your own.

I wonder what the people of the 1940's would have thought about a guy like me who can type faster (40 WPM) than any typewriter back then was capable of punching letters into the paper!

hi all, just thought i'd mention something that's been bugging me a bit, i've noticed that a few ppl on this board are using gifs from internetbumperstickers.com.. i myself have gotten some amazing little gifs from that site, they seriously kick the llama's ass!.

there is only one thing: those nice guys at internetbumperstickers pay real money for the bandwidth they use, and when you guys link to their images in your sigs, that means that every unique ip that views this page (provided they are using an image-enabled browser) is going to download that image from their servers.

you might think that these tiny 2k gifs are nothing, but believe me, i was an administrator for a couple of websites, and the bandwidth adds up, and pretty soon you're paying through your nose for other people free loading.. the solution is a simple one: merely copy the files to your computer, find a server where you can stick them that allows public http access to files you can upload to it, ftp them onto the server, and then update your sigs to point to the new image location.

Physical Appearance since leaving the JW's

i was never baptised when i attended the kingdom hall so i went to the meetings with sholder length hair (with my jw parents).

one time i had been approached by the elders concerning this matter.

they asked me if i planned to cut my hair and progress in the truth and get baptised.

I haven't really changed much about myself, although my clothes are a thousand times better than they were at the time I left the Org. I can't handle long hair (it's bloody annoying!) so it's always been cropped quite short, and I am in the same boat as Abbadon, ie. I don't have very much body hair either, so no beard or anything. Besides, they feel like sandpaper on soft, sensitive skin, if you catch my drift!

Closer2fine, the format of the image doesn't matter. GIFs are about the tiniest image format anyway - converting a GIF to a JPG would just make it slightly larger (probably - depends on the level of compression), but there would be no increase in quality whatsoever.

The only problem as I see it with GIFs is that they can only have 256 unique colours (they are palettized images) whereas JPGs can have 16 million colours. This can be quite a big difference!

You'll find that the free sites out there really won't care what format your image is in, provided it fits on their server and you have the time and patience to upload it, but this shouldn't be a problem, as the images I was talking about are so tiny they can travel across from your computer to the server in a single IP packet. That's fast!
