I would think that intent should play a role for reasons already stated above.
What exactly are we talking about when we say "held morally responsible"? someone gets to yell at you?
if you see someone about to be struck by a car or otherwise step into harms way but choose not to call out a warning or act in some way to prevent disaster, are you responsible for any harm caused?.
what defence, if any, can be offered for choosing inaction?
.

i think the overwhelming problem with trying to wake up friends and family is they have nowhere else to go.
i mean these people all their friends are jws a lot of them their family is jws.
if they wake up or agree with you in anyway they know instantly that they loose all this, many will even loose jobs.
what gets me is that JWs are known (known by JWs) to be soo in love with truth and serving god without blemish and yet so often when they realize the truth about the bORG, they dont just jump ship immediately for the sake of truth and serving god (not usually anyway)
Im not even referring to those on rescue missions or trying to keep family together, I mean your average JW doesnt care about truth or serving god w/o blemish, only about the org.
my brother has been talking about the earth being flat and some big conspiracy going on to make people beieve otherwise.
what are people's thoughts on this?.
DJS Is it possible you didn't actually read my post? I did mention that I was simply explaining the model to clear up some things. I was not making a statement of fact or finding.
You really should make sure to be informed about that to which you are referring before you post.
Its ok to have a different theory, even to be wrong. It is not ok to jump on someone about what they said after you failed to actually read it.
No hard feelings though.

ill take a stab at some of the items above even though im not a flat earther. im very familiar with the common models used in FE and maybe i can shed some light on the topic. im going to do point 5, theres alot there. I will speak as if these thngs are in fact this way but im simply explaining the model.
imagine the flat earth maps you've seen and now on top of that, you have a close and small sun as well as moon. they travel above the surface in circular patterns but more like spirals, in accordance with established observence of paths. so the sun moves from one tropic to the other, for example, and it does this once per year.
when the sun is farther from your location (closer to the farthest tropic line from you) , you have winter, when it is closer, you have summer. it is small and so doesn't light the entirety of the map, neither is it visible past a certain distance. same for the moon. this distance is where your horizon is. i will post a pic of this scene after this post, if i can find one good enough. this orbit around the surface also explains timezones since any place farther east of the suns' direct overhead location will be further ahead in time and those farther west will be behind in time, as time catches up when the sun does. timezones are human constructs to reflect the suns position.
Lunar Phases - some believe the moon to be self luminescent but I'm a little rusty with other explanations. maybe the FE model of sun/moon locations could account for shadows if the moon were lit by the sun but I havent looked at that.
eclipses - some believe that the moon is blocking the sun, just that both are closer than the RE model, and some believe there are other bodies inhabiting the same space but that they are not seen unless they interfere with sun/moon light. at least one of these bodies would have to be translucent to explain lunar eclipse.
retrograde mars motion - not sure, dont remember reading about this and im a little rusty. if i find the time to find out if this is dealt with, ill post back but maybe someone else can fill in the blanks there?
daily tides - the only explanation i saw on this was that the water is reacting to the magnetic nature of the sun and possibly the moon too.
satellites - this one is interesting since theres some history and documention associated; evidence, you might say but not proof. these are generally thought to be connected to balloons, similar to weather balloons.
in addition to those listed under point 5, let me clarify a few other things:
No claims are made as to what is under the flat plane of the surface. stars and planets are often (not by everyone) thought to be contained in the structure of the dome which covers the entirety of earth, like a snow globe. some thing the moon/sun are under that dome, some think they are outside the dome.
FE isnt really very strict in all things and different people may have different views on the various aspects since they have not been proven per se.
i hope that clarifies some things. I am no FE expert so feel free to research yourself.

anyone know of a good site to map the path of sattellites, multiples at a time? i found a bunch of iss trackers and some limited individual trackers that werent very goid but im trying to get them mapped on the same map. no particular satellites, i know there are a bunch, just trying to get a feel for things if anyone is familiar with a good site.
all the money paid out by the watchtower to the child abuse law suits comes from the worldwide work fund or the contributions from the monies given for the kingdom hall real estate.
so,when we were actively involved donating funds for this purpose, and the watchtower used those funds for purposes other than the worldwide work are they not guilty of stealing funds that were donated for jehovah's kingdom.
can anything legal be done about this?
I suppose you can look at similar situations for other donation based companies. has redcross or salvation army etc ever been sued? probably.
one possible defence would be that the court ordered the payment, for those that went that far. that wouldnt apply to settlements though.
interesting indeed, maybe a lawyer can comment on this?
I dont want my money back, just 1 brick from the buldings at HQ, if all 8 mill + us could do that.. ahhhhh
it is difficult for me to say exactly what i mean on this subject.
my sister sent me a link to the oct, 2017 wt simplified article (which has been discussed about the shunning) and i found it disturbing of course, how the wt gives advice, different for each sex, along with the "unbelieving" mate dissing.. wt - although an unbelieving husband may not take the lead in spiritual matters, he should be respected because of his position as the head of the family.
likewise, an unbelieving wife should be shown self-sacrificing love and tender affection by her christian husband.—eph.
smiddy had a worldly girlfriend? Im telling!
I found this article surprisingly less culty than the usual drivel, mainly because they didnt push for the wife to override the "unbelieving" husband if he didnt want her teaching the kids (from the bible), taking them to meetings and herself doing service on a particular day if he wanted her not to.. so say Saturday is the usual day and he doesnt want to spoil weekend family time, maybe she can pick another day.
My experience is in agreement with other comments that the fam is really just concerned about the cult you just joined as well as not being able to do the usual family customs (birthday/xmas etc) not so much your everlasting life, but ymmv as my fam wasnt religious anyway.
And I was so utterly sure that it wasnt a cult, how perposterous an idea! Go back to your pagan tree worship, mother!
we all have likely heard the expression "to break a person" and usually it's in relation to kidnappers, bullies, pimps, human traffickers and cult leaders.. when a person is broken, their spirit, goals, aspirations, pursuits, self esteem, critical thinking and dreams are taken away.
what fills that vacuum is despair, depression, low self esteem, lack of self confidence and individuality.
the victim now believes that they are not worthy of enjoying life and following their dreams and personal satisfaction through personal achievements.
I wonder if being born in vs coming in later will have a baring on whether someone feels they were "broken".
As a person who fell for the bORG in my mid 20s, I can look back and see exactly how I was broken and how my thinking changed. Pretty much everything OP said applies to me but I wouldn't have a frame of reference (before bORG) to compare to if I was born in.
Oh yes, Im just so glad that god has, through his Governng Body, extended such wonderful undeserved kindness. /puke
so, i was sort of forced to spend time with my uber-in parents.
they went on gushing about the website, and the new business cards they have to give out to busy people.
business cards?
Oh I so wish I had seen that OKM but I was not around yet, missed it by <--> that much!
