i am asking this for a friend of mine (not a jw) who does not have computer access at home.
i figured i would ask since there is so many people who post here.. she is going thru a divorce and the judge said they have to share joint legal and physical custody.
they will each get the child 50% of the time.
Hubby had a cousin that divorced and they solved it by keeping the children in the original family house, the parents both got effeciency appartments ( or shacked up with lover...whatever) and each had to stay with the children alone at the childrens' home every other week.
That way the child has a permanant home where he/she belongs and all the kid stuff is.
i saw the film "pay it forward" some weeks ago.
now, whilst most of us stoical brits will snort somewhat at the emotional hokum, nonetheless the movie featured many salient points, not least the theory that humankind needs to put something back into society if it is to retain it's own sense of worth.. as it happens, i agree with that theory.
also, since leaving the jw's, i find that i have much more concern for the welfare of my fellow man than i used to have.
I have to agree with all of the previous posters. I have felt the same thing myself and find that we donate much more to charity than when I was 'active'. For myself, I have for several years volunteered time and labor at my local public library. It's not much, but it is what I know from working at a university library in the past and it is what I can do physically. So at least I feel I am contributing something to my little part of the world.

my wife and i are starting to look into moving out of the u.s. we are looking at both canada and australia but are leaning to canada.
keep in mind we are just starting to do research so we haven't delved too far in to the politics or locations in canada.
does anyone have any location suggestions?
How about including Perth, Australia, in your consideration.

Sort of like the dog shooting in St. Paul, MN, awhile back... the cops are going to do a drug bust in "Frogtown neighborhood", go up to a well kept house with a fenced yard (fence went around the front too, with a gate at the sidewalk)...they see tricycle and little kid's toy on the grass, and as they are going through the gate, a 9 yr. old BLACK LAB bitch approaches, barking....you guessed it..... shot the dog as the kids were coming out the front door to see what the dog was barking about......guess what...... they had gone to the wrong address....... too bad for Dad, Mom, Kids, and especially the house pet...........
We have a black lab that lives in our house and travels with us in the car all the time and travels with us in our motorhome....this dog is our 'kid'.... so I have spent alot of time pondering on my response should I ever have the misfortune of encountering "law enforcement" either at home or away, because it is 95% sure the dog will be with us and 95% chance the dog will not survive the encounter. I still have more thinking to do.....
This has bothered me greatly since the St. Paul incident, and since this one on the hwy, I have determined to approach our local PD and ask for instructions on how I should behave during 'contact' and yet be able to protect our dog.........
