Captain Obvious: A Success Story
by Captain Obvious injanuary 2012, at the age of 24 i “woke up” to the truth about the truth.
march 2012, i joined this esteemed message board and was welcomed.
this forum was such a help.

All the best to you captain Obvious and your wife ,congratulations on the coming birth of your child I hope that all goes well.
Your wife obviously has more functioning brain cells than a lot of women currently attending KH`s
Sad but true.
It never ceases to amaze me that JW`s believe that Jehovah gave each individual a brain to use and yet they refuse to use it effectively and give their thinking ability over to a few men in America the birthplace of so many Cult religions.

Truth is not unattainable
by venus inseeing corrupt rulers creating war to divert attention of the public, almighty arms industry loving conflicts, religious leaders finding religions as a means for easy income ….etc one may conclude that truth is not attainable.
yet there is a place where truth remains hidden for the seeker to experience his thrill—in the vocabulary of different languages.. when i was studying in mount holyoke, i had the opportunity to mingle with many foreign students and thus to my surprise came to know certain words are like a treasure of truth in at least one language among the vast reservoir of languages which means you have to continue your search for the truth of one word till you get it through different languages.
for example, take the word ‘king’ and start seeing the meaning of it in all the languages and you will find it means a person ruling with dynastic root, then suddenly you find in one language, the word ‘king’ is the summarized form of this sentence: “one who brings delight to all of his subjects and keeps them (of various interests) reconciled to each other.” to mention a few other words which my search took me to the truth:.

Isn`t "truth" in the mind of the beholder ?
What is truth for one person is utter bollocks to another person.
Whether the subject is Religion , politics ,The Environment ,Global Warming ,etc, etc.
Each of the words you have defined have negatives in the real world of human experience .
Or maybe you are just cherry picking words/definitions among different languages to suit your pre-conceived idea.?
Then again I could have completely misunderstood your OP
Just saying.

JWs - Liberals or Conservatives?
by neat blue dog inwhere they stand is a strange mixture.
yes, they don't agree with abortion and homosexuality, they believe in the bible and wear skirts and ties to church .
but in many ways they're liberal.

I`ll add my support to scratchme1010 post trying to label people as liberal or conservative or either left or Right of the spectrum is counter -productive because many people hold views of both sides of the spectrum ,and labeling them as such is a disservice..

My friend the 'Super-Dub.'
by joey jojo ini speak semi-regularly to an old friend of mine who i would describe as a super-dub.. he knows i am inactive but over the years i have peppered him with a lot of questions about the org.
that i hoped would make him at least pause and think somewhat rationally about the reality of being a jw in this brave new- post gb 2.0 world.. we have discussed everything from the generation changes, to the u.n. , failed prophecy, flip flops, the reduction in size of the wt magazine, the closing/ consolidation of bethels including lay-offs, jw broadcasting, cart witnessing- etc, etc.. what do i mean by super-dub?
he is a born-in, has missionary parents, he reg.

tiki ,I think you have summed it up beautifully,
I wonder if people like him are just feeling like they've invested so much in the religion...sacrificed a life...that to admit it was to no avail is just too disheartening.

I mean, what can they seriously talk about for 5 days straight?
Day 1 : They can go over the "truths" they had with C.T.Russell
Day 2: They can go over the Nu Lite they had with J.F Rutherford
Day 3: They have the New nu-Lite under N.H.Knorr
Day 4: Exciting revelations they had with F.W.Franz that had the R&F in high expectations of Jehovah`s purpose about to be had.
Day 5 :We are cutting back on Mags.& halving their content ,no longer printing bound books including the yearbook,no more calendars, booklets or pamphlets, selling off our properties in downtown New York ,getting rid of missionary`s ,Bethelite`s ,Co`s , Do`s ,to a lesser degree ,selling off Branches and staff , selling KH`s and combining the existing KH`s making the R&F travel further than they did before.
But don`t despair Jehovah has blessed us with not one but two white elephants according to ex-JW`s.
One in Chelmford UK and the other in Walkill N.Y. these two are going to be used so much when the New System so close at hand becomes a reality .
One can just fell the love of Jehovah In these blessed times.

Why I constantly write letters to the Watchtower Society
by UnshackleTheChains inhi all.. for many years now, i have been writing letters to bethel in new york and london.
i have also written to the charity commission, the bbc and more to highlight the harmful teachings and policies of the watchtower society.
i realise that some may view this as futile and understand why they might feel this way,; especially considering the pharisaical stonewall-like attitude displayed by the leadership of watchtower.. some reasons i do so is because i feel that constructive criticism is essential in helping to bring about change.

It`s a waste of time and effort to write letters to the Watchtower Society ,they will just fall on deaf ears and end up in the garbage bin with nobody of any importance in the organization even seeing your letters.
However letters to the media ,local and national ,.current affairs journalists ,and social issues journalists could very well take up the baton if enough letters reach their desks.
Also letters to local politicians in either state or federal ,if enough letters are received could make an impact and either expose or embarrass the JW doctrine of the WT.into making some changes.
I too have done some letters but believe I could/should do a lot more.
Then again with the findings of the ARC into JW`s and their handling of child sexual abuse cases ,didn`t the ARC find 70 recommendations they wanted JW/WT organization to address ? and the WT Society took issue with everyone of them ?
I haven`t heard anything back since that doozy. some months ago.
UTC ,dont get me wrong I applaud you for trying I just think writing to the WTS and expecting change is throwing pearls before swine.

Dietary Quirks Among JWs
by millie210 ini recently had to accompany an older family member out of state to a family reunion.
it was a big reunion and not much was overtly made of the fact that i am "misguided" and not attending meetings (lost soul that i am) which was nice.
the thing i noticed that i was most struck by was all the dietary quirks in evidence during our 3 days together.

Strip off the old personality
by eyeuse2badub inyesterday’s watchtower talked about how by becoming a jw it enabled “worldly” people to ‘strip off the old personality’ and make really significantly good changes in their life.. paragraph named 4 individuals (anonymous names of course and probably embellished tales)) sakura, ribeiro, stephen, and hans.
their lives changed for the good because they found god or because they became jw’s---right?.
so on the way home from this wt meeting, my wife commented to me how wonderful our brotherhood is and how it helps people who would otherwise be ‘lost’ n this world.

eyeuse2badub This is a good post and so true as many other posters have attested to.
And I believe it was also true in my case to some extent.
I tend to agree with pale.emperor......some people just trade one addiction for another one.

How do they get away with "New Light"?
by moreconfusedthanever inone thing that bothers me greatly is the fact that they can change their policies and beliefs and just say its "new light" and no one bats an eyelid.. there are many scriptures such as isaiah 40:8 "the word of god will last to time indefinite.
" or hebrews 6:18 "it is impossible for god to lie".
if he is "spirit directing" the borg then there should be no need for new light..
