while relaxing with my morning java at the local coffee joint i suddenly noticed window-washing equipment moving across the glassed surfaces of the restaurant.

yes, there was one of the local j-dubs hard at it.

the strange thing was the height of his helper ... about the height of an 8-year-old.

I homeschooled my son after 8th grade. He was 16 1/2 when he got his diploma. He went on to tech school and is now a highly paid computer engineer with a very outgoing personality.
I saw many cases that were failures because the parents expected the kid to do it all on their own. Someone still has to play teacher.
I homeschooled because of the bad enviornment and the constant fights that left him so stressed that he was constantly sick. All that changed when he got out of school.
Ours was a success story.

Did U find Sheperding Calls rude?

reading the lb thread "home but hiding" struck a chord with me.. i remember when i was inactive for the period of about a year the elders made a few "sheperding calls".. did anyone else out there find these very rude and condescending?.

first of all, in my case at least they always showed up unannounced.

how much do you think those "hell-ders" would like it if someone randomly dropped by their house unexpected?

The elders in the congregation we attended did ask firt if they could come but after a couple of these "visits" my husband told them right out that they could no longer come over, that we were not accepting anymore visits.
My husband never did much in the "Truth" but he did fall into having a Bible study with a man he worked with. When the elders came over, instead of commending him on the study, they told him he did not have enough field service hours compared to the study hours. He took care of that. He dropped the study.
Then they came over to tell us that our tall, skinny 16 year old son's suits were too loose. And the one said that the double breasted was not theocratic and the other one piped up to say he didn't like the ties either. My but that was upbuilding! The kid changed congregations, where by the way, the elders commended him on how he dressed, and we refused all further visits.
Such arrogant assholes!

Well, here's my story... Like it or not.

wow... i feel guilty about even being here, let alone posting my story.

but here goes.... it was back in the late 60's that my dad (actually stepdad who adopted me and my older sister when he married our mother) got witnessed to by a guy that he worked with.

he was invited to our house for dinner along with his wife and that was the beginning of my new life.

Canine Racism

last week in the columbus dispatch an article was published that told people how insurers are cancelling policies of homeowners who own certain breeds of dogs.

the quote below is an editorial in today's paper, regarding the article.

In the Phoenix area car insurance rates vary greatly by what area you live in because of the high degree of theft. Sun City has the lowest rates because theft is the lowest. That is the way insurance companies work. Some dog breeds have killer instincts and are often owned by people who have no idea how or desire to train the dog. They cost the insurance companies more money.
Some people get a kick out of having a dog that scares people. We had a neighbor who had such a dog and it was always out looking for trouble. It ended up dead.

I know several people who had bloodless surgery for heart related problems. Two of them suffered strokes right after the surgery. One died during surgery. One had suffered memory loss and other brain problems. It makes me wonder if bloodless surgery is as safe as the WTS would have you believe.

GOSSIP In the Kingdom Hall

the overwhelming amount of gossip that circulated through my kingdom hall was a major factor in my decision to stop attending meetings.

every meeting, every day of field service, and every gathering was plagued with vicious rumors that people told to keep themselves entertained.

surprisingly, the pioneers and elder's wives were the worst of everyone.

Elders have the right to gossip.
When it came to the attention of the PO, Brother L, that Elder S was repeating everything to his family that went on at Elder meetings and Elder S's children were repeating it out in service, Brother L confronted Elder S with no results. He then contacted the CO who it seemed was in Elder S's pocket. Elder S knew a lot of important JW people. Next, Brother L contacted the Society about the matter.
The result was the Brother L was no longer the PO, no longer and elder, no longer had any privileges and since it was a small town with only one congregation, Brother L ended up selling his house and moving to another town. This was all because he tried to do something about the gossiping habits of another elder.

Every time you fill up the car, you can avoid putting more money into the
coffers of Saudi Arabia. Just buy from gas companies that don't import
their oil from the Saudis.

Nothing is more frustrating than the feeling that every time I fill up the
tank, I am sending my money to people who are trying to kill me, my family
and my friends. I thought it might be interesting for you to know which oil
companies are the best to buy gas from. Major companies that import Middle
Eastern oil (for the period 9/1/00 - 8/31/01):

Shell 205,742,000 barrels
Chevron/Texaco 144,332,000 barrels
Exxon/Mobil 130,082,000 barrels
Marathon 117,740,000 barrels
*Amoco 62,231,000 barrels

If you do the math at $30/barrel, these imports am
ount to over $18 BILLION!

Here are some large companies that do NOT import Middle Eastern oil:

All of this information is available from the Department of Energy and can
be easily documented. Refineries located in the U.S. are required to state
where they get their oil and how much they are importing. They report on a
monthly basis. Keep this list in your car; share it with friends. Stop
paying for terrorism!
