What is really Babylon the great?

for believers of god and christ, it seems that it should be obvious that babylon the great of revelation should be all religions and spiritual practices associated with the one true enemy of christ...the devil, satan, the snake etc.

essentially any group or individual practicing and promoting witchcraft, sorcery, devil worshipping etc.

all things practiced in ancient babylon (the nation presumably used as the model for the one in revelation).. or is this too simple of an explanation?.

Tonus-it is a range of practices, can those be identified? This is important if the description is accurate and true, since it means that there is an organization/religion (or many of them) that is working in direct opposition to God himself and which God advises his followers to flee from. Without knowing who it is, how many might be following the wrong religion and dooming themselves to an eternity of suffering?

These are important questions for a Christian for sure. This is why I don't think the practices I mentioned regarding demon worship and witchcraft are a small thing. And they would clearly point to the spirituality that us in direct opposition to Christianity.

I mentioned earlier the work of Augustine, City of God, in which he condemned these practices extensively..meaning he spent a great part of the book referring to these practices (overt and those not so overt) in comparison to the correct way of worshipping God.

Augustine went to the 'core' of the matter..the fact that it's a spiritual battle first and foremost. Any religion practicing sorcery and witchcraft would clearly be in the camp of Babylon the great.

Very interesting points.

You asked whether Babylon is simply all forms of sorcery, witchcraft, and devil worship. These are certainly aspects of what Babylon promotes—but reducing her to these fringe phenomena misses the deeper point. Babylon is not merely about occult practices; she is about systemic opposition to the Lamb.

Wouldn't this systemic opposition to the Lamb be as a direct result of absolute intervention of the devil and demons tho?

For example, didn't Augustine in his City of God when referring to the same Rome attribute its actions to the manipulation of demons? In other words, the Romans practiced devil and demon worship when worshiping their pagan gods which led directly to the opposition to the Lamb in its various forms as you described.

as a christian, my starting point is that we exist because the most fundamental form of activity, energy, call it what you like, that is there, is love.

Aqwsed-Jesus clearly claimed He had the authority to lay down His life and to take it up again. In John 10:17-18, He said: “I lay down my life that I may take it up again… I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up again.” That is not a passive role—it’s an explicit declaration of divine power over life and death. Moreover, in John 2:19, Jesus says, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.” Verse 21 explains that “He was speaking of the temple of His body.” After the resurrection, John 2:22 says that His disciples remembered He had said this and believed.

If Jesus is not God, then he lied about raising himself from the dead.

Except, per the Trinity, Jesus didn't raise himself from the dead. God the Father (a separate person) raised Jesus from the dead.

Is this accurate (per the Trinity teaching)?

Incorrect. It was sufficient for the criminal at Jesus' side to know/believe that Jesus was undeserving of punishment to be saved.

MeanMrMustard-To all Christaians out there : why is it necessary to believe or reject the Trinity (depending on which camp you reside) in order to gain salvation? Either Jesus is God (fully) or he is a representative, or "son" ... or perhaps a mode. Whatever he is, as a Christian, God (in whatever nature he resides) has made provision through Jesus, right? Simply have sincere faith, repent, accept him (whatever he was), and that he rose on the third day.

Correct Mustard. There's no command in the scriptures stating we must embrace and defend the Trinity teaching or be condemned.

This is because God does not require man to fully understand His essence and being. In fact, scriptures confirm He made it impossible to do so.

SB-The meaning of death is "separation", not non-existence. This is how Jesus could resurrect himself from the dead, while he was still dead.

To this you should add that God the Father (a separate person) resurrected God the Son. It clears up what you mean by "himself".

Aqwsed- The topic this is the nature of God, and we must begin with a sense of awe and humility. How can finite human beings even begin to speak about the infinite?

This is precisely why salvation is not dependent on either embracing or not embracing the Trinity teaching.
