MeanMrMustard-To all Christaians out there : why is it necessary to believe or reject the Trinity (depending on which camp you reside) in order to gain salvation? Either Jesus is God (fully) or he is a representative, or "son" ... or perhaps a mode. Whatever he is, as a Christian, God (in whatever nature he resides) has made provision through Jesus, right? Simply have sincere faith, repent, accept him (whatever he was), and that he rose on the third day.

Correct Mustard. There's no command in the scriptures stating we must embrace and defend the Trinity teaching or be condemned.

This is because God does not require man to fully understand His essence and being. In fact, scriptures confirm He made it impossible to do so.

SB-The meaning of death is "separation", not non-existence. This is how Jesus could resurrect himself from the dead, while he was still dead.

To this you should add that God the Father (a separate person) resurrected God the Son. It clears up what you mean by "himself".

This is precisely why salvation is not dependent on either embracing or not embracing the Trinity teaching.

SB-When Jesus three componenets of personhood were joined, he was a live. When his spirit (God) separated from his body, he was dead. (Same as anybody else).

To ask my previous question another way then...once separated, God the Father remained alive and resurrected the dead God the Son?

If simultaneously, then it was two different persons (both God)...one dead and one alive, the one alive resurrecting the dead one?

If Jesus didn't raise himself from the dead (proving he was God), then he is a liar, a con man and the worst sort of deceiver. And, should be utterly rejected.

Would it be safe to say then, that God did not exist for three days?

Twinkies don't taste as good as they used to.

Diagrams are unnecessary because Jesus never needed them to explain anything to the common person who wasn't a scholar or a philosopher. Paul himself stated that his advanced understanding of things was unnecessary.

It's very possible that the Trinity is correct when you deal in purely spirit concepts (what shape or form is the mind, essence, love, intention or hope?), of which we understand even less than purely physical ones. But there is no indication in the scriptures that if one accepts Jesus as the Son of God you will lose your salvation.

15 “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?”

16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”

17 Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven.

Peter's answer was sufficient for salvation.
