  After Jehovah “[executed] judgment on all the gods of Egypt,” his people were joined by “a vast mixed company” of non-Israelites. These foreigners may have turned to Jehovah when they saw Moses’ warnings about the Ten Plagues come true…

  This is a very significant thing JW is stating. First, it relieves them from having to keep looking out for the start of the 'great tribulation'.

  Second, it does away with the hard-line claim that you must be JW to be saved. In essence they've taken the same position as all other Christian religions.

  Very interesting. This 'new' understanding essentially nullifies the claim that you can only be saved if you are a JW.

  They use the account of the 10 plagues in Egypt to demonstrate how a pagan Egyptian (with no knowledge of even God's name) was saved by deciding to follow the Israelites at the exodus by virtue of the plagues alone.

  JW has apparently realized what all other Christian religions understood a very long time ago. "one faith" is not one religion.

  That phrase is lifted from a pseudonymously written epistle offering an excuse for the destruction of the world to not yet have happened as promised. It amounts to the very same thing as the WT overlapping generation drivel. The writer of 2 Peter wasn't renouncing the destruction of the world but by indefinitely delaying the promised destruction for the sake of a vaguely defined greater good rendered the original promise effectively meaningless.

  I believe slimboy was referring to what happens to the soul upon death. The end of our physical life, not the end of the world.

  Most all Christian faiths speak a good game about peace but harbor fantasies of hellfire or world destruction.

  It's not in human nature to desire suffering or destruction on others. Notice how non-believers question Godly punishment and how believers have difficulty with it too.

  But tribalism is indeed part of human nature and it clearly permeated into religion a long time ago.

  on a trip to rome a few years ago i asked my friend (who is roman and jw) what the catholic faith thinks of jw.

  he simply stated that jw is tolerated by the church but that really not much thought is given to them.

  is there an official stance on jw by the catholics?

  vienne-TTWSYF, That's Catholic propaganda.

  On the surface it may seem that way. But if you can accept that Jesus transmitted a measure of responsibility to an imperfect human man in Peter and the apostles, then the entirety of that imperfect human aspect of Christianity must be studied.

  And it truly doesn't take long to see the extensive connections between those early Christians and what came to be identified as the catholic church.

  WTS does NOT recognized baptisms of other religions.

  Yes, this is clear. It seems both JW and Catholic church don't recognize each other's baptism over interpretation of scripture. Ultimately both claim the spirit directs them to their each conclusion. Maybe they're just both valid. After all, neither invokes satan or belzebub in their baptism ritual.

  Why would anyone care what the Catholic church thinks about another religion?

  It does appear that the Catholic church holds more authority and weight on the basis of its history and tradition across millenia (than JW). It's difficult to ascertain and judge any Christian religion if it isn't against or in contrast to the earliest one.

  Yes indeed, looks like we have a new Pope.

  Thank you Blondie for expanding on that subject of the baptism. Based on that last note you referenced, it does still appear to be that JW acknowledges at least 'the role' of the Holy Spirit.

  A quick and superficial Google search on the subject indicates that the catholic church seems to not recognize the JW baptism on the basis of the Trinity doctrine.

  Matthew 28:19 does say this in the King James Version (and the RNWT) "Matthew 28:19 in the King James Version reads: "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:" RNWT: Go, therefore, and make disciples of people of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the holy spirit.

  A JW by means of this verse could say that it is implied that a JW baptism is being performed in the name of all three. Does it teach something different tho?

  Question for JW's: Is Jesus the Mediator of Your Prayers ?

  praying to god “through the son jesus” has nothing to do with christ as mediator.. do jw's even know what a mediator does?.

  i am in the insurance restoration construction business and have been in mediation many times when a policy holder sues an insurance company for not paying everything they believe is due them under the terms of their policy for property damage.. i am brought in as a technical expert.. in mediation, the plaintiff (policy holder) and the defendant (insurance company) are placed in separate rooms, they do not talk to each other.

  they are separated because the dispute has alienated the one from the other.
