For me, I think it was Rachel Carson's Silent Spring, but yeah....

she certainly is passionate about climate change.

just saw the movie "a beautiful day in the neighborhood" with tom hanks as fred rogers.
excellent acting and story-line.
it brought back many fond memories as a child.
My wife (And many other JW children) were forbidden to watch the show simply because Fred Rogers was a Presbyterian minister.
---Sad in so many ways. He was a better Christian than the vast majority of JWs.
i`m wondering just when and why the g.b.of jw`s made the change as they did to their official magazine.?.
at first they were advertising his presence long before they claim he actually arrived .. 1879 was the first wt wasn`t it ?
and their advertising his presence ,when according to their beliefs he din`t actually arrive with his presence until 1914.?.
The name changes reflect the gradual evolution of JW beliefs.
The Bible Students / Jehovah's Witnesses taught clear up until the mid 1930's that Christ had returned invisibly in 1874.
And it was not until the year 1925 that the concept of God's Kingdom as a physical, actual government was introduced.
as jehovah’s witnesses, we were regularly told how awful a college education is.
i’m no longer associated with the religion but i am not so pro university.
it’s not because i think you are better off without a degree.
When you think about it, (At least when I think about it...) the JW faith from start to finish and top to bottom is a monument to the "What's all this fuss about education?" mindset.
It's not just that their writers don't seem to understand what an equinox is:

Min,
Colleges have become so liberal in their thinking that it’s worrisome to me. I wish they would just stick to giving a helpful education and stop trying to be social justice warriors.
It really depends on what you are studying because most universities are actually conglomerations of different colleges, schools, and institutions.
At Arizona State University, for example, there is the W P Carey School of Business, the Sandra Day O'Conner College of Law, the College of Integrative Sciences and Arts, the Ira A Fulton School of Engineering, the Mary Lou Fulton Teacher's College, the Edson College of Health Innovation, the Barrett Honors College, etc., etc., etc. -Six different campuses, miles apart from each other.
Examples of rabid liberalism like you are likely to hear from a conservative pundit or talk show host typically occur at colleges of liberal arts and sciences, (Or at the campus in which they reside) which is only a part of most universities.
i think tesla and musk have officially jumped the shark.. did you see the "cybertruck" they released?
it's like the car that homer built!.
it has to be the ugliest vehicle ever built.
I'd like to know the story behind the windows. Is the Tesla Armor Glass really that fragile or did somebody not bother to tell him they'd mocked up a vehicle without it?
Words are always added (and omitted) in translation, that is the nature of the beast.
Yes...
Heavily inflected languages (i.e. Ancient Greek, Latin, etc.) subsume concepts we express via prepositions and pronouns into noun cases.
It's impossible to translate these languages into English without adding in those words.
We can quibble over word choices, but all translators do it.
Just because the news media, the politicians, “science”, etc. say it is so, I say PROVE IT! I’m no longer going to take your word unless I get facts from both sides.
Well said, Min, and I completely agree.
Proof, unfortunately is very often predicated on a level of knowledge commensurate to the claim itself.
You cannot, for example, "prove" that the hypotenuse of a right triangle with legs of 3 and 4 is always going to be 5 to someone who cannot or will not accept that 9 and 16 make 25.
You cannot prove that the earth is round to someone who lacks basic spatial skills and at least an intermediate understanding of mathematics.
You cannot prove that the Greek verb, γινώσκω conveys a level of intimacy that's completely lost in the rendering, "taking in knowledge" to someone who is not familiar with Greek literature of the period.
Proof is not "proof" unless it's understood.
If I'm misunderstanding and this is an allusion to American politics, I honestly don't know who is telling the truth and who is not. I'd like to see some proof myself.
can someone please help me with this, if you’ve looked into it before?.
i read somewhere that the witnesses didn’t celebrate the memorial on nisan 14 according to the jewish calendar.
i did a quick google check - seems next years memorial is on tuesday (nisan 13) rather than the wednesday, nisan 14 according to the jewish calendar.
Can someone please help me with this, if you’ve looked into it before?
There are a several factors at work here:
1. JW's treat each year as independent of all the others, No leap years, no other holidays, events or festivals to integrate into a year to year calendar. (Once you set the date for one holiday, you've set the date for all the others throughout the rest of the year.) Sometimes there is nearly a month's discrepancy.
2. JW's, like most other fundamentalist groups believe Jesus died on the 14th, the exact same day the lamb was sacrificed. So on the afternoon of the 13th, JW's hurry home, get dressed and go to the Memorial. By the time they pass the emblems, the sun has set and the 14th has technically begun, sometimes by just a few minutes. The next day, when they wake up, it will still be the 14th.
In Judaism, the lamb is sacrificed on the afternoon of the 14th and Passover occurs after sundown on what is technically the 15th. (Numbers 33:3 clear says the next daylight period after Passover was the 15th, not the 14th.)
3. JW's like most fundy groups, believe they know more about the intricacies of the Law and the Jewish calendar (Both of which are quite complicated) than observant Jews do themselves. We've had some striking examples here on the forum in years past.
Hope this helps
i was recently informed that the new jw bible was reviewed by some academic type person who rated it as one of the best translations available.. has anyone heard of this person and if so what is his reasoning for giving it such a compliment?.
