Double Standards of the Watchtower
by Vanderhoven7 inare you aware of any double standards promoted by the organization of jehovah's witnesses?
here a a few i am aware of:.
1. the wts equated joining the ymca with apostasy but felt free to join the un for 10 years (1991-2001).

Vanderhoven,
The JWs have at times, condemned people who stood around and did nothing while somebody was assaulted. (e.g. A young woman is stabbed to death in broad daylight.)
However they simultaneously preach what is arguably a form of pacifism, which would prevent anybody from doing anything meaningful.

What Will Happen To President Trump In Your Opinion?
by minimus inhe has been “impeached “.
will he be convicted in the senate?
is he so “damaged goods” that he is ineffectual?
-

Nothing.
For all practical purposes, it takes a majority of the opposition party in both chambers of Congress to remove a President.
And unless the Democrats can produce a viable candidate in the tiny handful of states that actually count, he will very likely win in 2020.

Self Driving Vehicles

Here's an example of what I mean by the finer points of traffic law.
(Disclaimer: This is specific to my state. Your laws may be different.)
Here where I live, the Frontage / Access / Service road is not just another surface street.
As the names imply, the purpose of this road is to service the freeway.
Traffic exiting the freeway onto the service road has the right of way, even in a lane change.
Traffic on the service road is alerted to this fact by both a yield sign and a band of isosceles triangles, letting you know you're entering into an area of cross-traffic:
This seems to be too complicated a concept for self driving vehicles, perhaps because it is an inversion of the normal rule.
To be fair though, a lot of human drivers don't understand this either and when it becomes a problem, (i.e. Enough accidents have occurred) the yield sign will be replaced with a full stop:

What Do We Know for Certain?? Experts, Authorities, Scientists are often Dead WRONG
by Terry indo i know anything for certain?yes!when so-called "authority" predict the future - they are wrong.and yet - we always believe them.
examples:________.
2912 mayan calendar apocalypse1910 : halley's cometa worldwide panic ensued, stoked by the media and such newspaper headlines as “comet may kill all earth life, says scientist.”1831 the great disappointmentwilliam miller began preaching in 1831 that the end of the world as we know it would occur with the second coming of jesus christ in 1843. he attracted as many as 100,000 followers who believed that they would be carried off to heaven when the date arrived.

Duell was an attorney as I recall and like a number of the other examples above, was speaking outside of his area of expertise.
Here is the actual quote:
"In my opinion, all previous advances in the various lines of invention will appear totally insignificant when compared with those which the present century will witness. I almost wish that I might live my life over again to see the wonders which are at the threshold"

One instance that I recall was in 2014 when U.S. congregations entertained international convention delegates with local culture

-Nothing at all wrong with this. It's just very different from the JWs that I knew.

Just a moan - regarding the latest trend in ignorance of the English language!
by The Fall Guy inin recent months i have noticed more and more people on the net (including here) are using this latest perversion of the english language -.
"i would of done this..........or he would of tried to change things".
it's would've - short for would have!.

People have been using the proposition, "of" in place of the verb, "have" for as long as I can remember.
I think the confusion is probably because people say it so fast in normal day to day speech that they don't really know how to spell it out in written composition.

I completely agree Simon. These vehicles do okay with "Red means stop" and "Green means go," but they lack the judgment a human would have on the finer points of traffic law.
I don't think we're anywhere near a true self-driving vehicle.

venting: My wife is the most dangerous kind of JW
by goingthruthemotions ini need to vent again here.

my wife is the most dangerous kind of jw.

As i stated my wife will never wake up, it will take a miracle and right now i have a hard time believing in god. so its hopeless.
Obviously you know your wife better than we do.
One thing to keep in mind here on this forum however, is that most of us think pretty much alike. Sure we have different opinions on political and social topics, but we arrive at those opinions through basically the same process.
We use terms like, "cult" and "blinkers" and "waking up" because that describes the way we think.
But not everybody is like that. Not everybody thinks like that.
For the longest time, I did not understand this. (In retrospect, I would say, "refused.")
I knew JW doctrine backwards, forwards and sideways. I could read the NT it its original language. I knew their history (I'm even cited as a source in the Wikipedia article "Eschatology of Jehovah's Witnesses") better than almost all of them.
None of that mattered. Religion is an affair of the heart, not the mind. Facts are powerless in the face of emotion. Worse, they will build up a wall between you and your wife.
