Maryland is hot and muggy in the summer...
Oh yes.....Washington DC was a malarial swamp long before it was a city
Whatever became of the Crownsville assembly hall? Did the JW's hold on to it or sell it off?
posting for brother x. petra!.
if you were a child during the years of 1960 to 1970, the question isn't; do you remember these conventions?
the question is; how could you forget?

so here it is on bitchute.. tear away.. https://www.bitchute.com/video/pyd8crtke8xy/.
The video reminds me vaguely of the movie A Beautiful Mind.
Not only is Dr. Mikovits brilliant; she's held up in the textbooks as shining example of how science self corrects its mistakes.
When her lab was unable to find any evidence of retrovirus in CFS patients in a blind study, she openly admitted, "It's just not there."
But that particular idea just doesn't die. It just gets more and more convoluted, complicated and unlikely.

There's a saying, "Listen to the science, not the scientist" which is meant to highlight the importance of peer review, but is apropos in other ways as well.
i was just watching this on you tube, about the growth of the lds church.
i think these numbers may support a number of theories that have been discussed on here.
(1) the jws are bigger as a religious organisation.. (2) jw membership is more engaged, as well as, more ethnically diverse.. (3) wt is been honest with its counting.
The LDS general conference, which is comparable to the JW memorial...
In what way are they comparable?
nice to be here.
still a pimo and struggling through my fade.
i still have several jw friends on social media.
The point I feel is, that the Witnesses are supposed to be Polically Neutral.
That's the claim, but they've really lived up to it. The JW parent organization has stumped for the U.N. and taken sides on gun control, environmental and social issues.
Why would the rank and file behave any differently?
how many of you remember these?
(since these are old i don't think the tower will get a hernia.).

I don't recall circuit assemblies at Laurel...
You're right. I misspoke. These were district conventions.
ever since i came out of the witnesses, i've become very political.. i've heard lots of arguments back and forth for many things.. in the u.s. there is the argument that it is "racist" to want to deny entry to muslims.
while there is freedom of religion, there is also the very valid concern of maintaining democracy and a justice system that is based on modern values.we as exjw's constantly quote the pew center for statistics on jw's such as: they are last place in the us for members of a religion that go to university, and second-last for poverty levels of members of a religion.
we accept those statistics and mention them as proof of how damaging the jw's are.now, let's use the same center for some very scary statistics on islam:http://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2016/07/22/muslims-and-islam-key-findings-in-the-u-s-and-around-the-world/.
Anna,
As a Jewish person, I find Spinoza far more palatable than Voltaire, Kant or Hume.

So if you want to investigate further, its up to you
I have to admit I'm perplexed by the fixation on philosophy at the expense of the scientific innovation of people like Newton and Galileo and more specifically, the fixation on Voltaire at the expense of people like Spinoza and Kant, but we all have our own areas of interest.

I would argue that racial Antisemitism has its roots in the religious Anti-Judaism which predates the enlightenment by many centuries.

Anyone notice the address on the Accommodations Form?
917 Lyons Ave., Laurel, MD. 20810
The horse racing facility in Laurel was regularly rented for circuit assemblies. Since the racing season runs from April through November, it was perfect for the JW's, as the venue was largely vacant the rest of the time.
