  i need to vent again here.

  because i have no one else to talk with and no one who really understands except for the people here.

  The JW faith attracts people who are inherently unhappy. -Hence the shockingly cavalier attitude towards death.

  Nothing will change vis-à-vis the JW faith until that underlying unhappiness is remedied.

  I don't mean to sound flippant here and apologize if it sounds that way.

  This isn't easy. It took me nearly forty years, so I'm not exactly what you would call a genius when it comes to this stuff (What man is?)

  My wife threw her JW literature away when her life outside the "Kingdom Hall" became more pleasant and more rewarding than her life inside it.

  well these goof balls at jwbroadcast apparently think the study of pure science means not having any "practical application".

  sanderson may speak russian but he is so ill educated he appears to think that researching a subject and formulating a theory about it means that's the end of it - in other words he's saying it has no practical use.

  She is as certain of her cause as I was about the imminent end of the world when I was 16.

  For me, I think it was Rachel Carson's Silent Spring, but yeah....

  How Many of you Remember Mr. Rogers Neighborhood?

  just saw the movie "a beautiful day in the neighborhood" with tom hanks as fred rogers.

  excellent acting and story-line.

  it brought back many fond memories as a child.

  My wife (And many other JW children) were forbidden to watch the show simply because Fred Rogers was a Presbyterian minister.

  ---Sad in so many ways. He was a better Christian than the vast majority of JWs.

  i`m wondering just when and why the g.b.of jw`s made the change as they did to their official magazine.?.

  at first they were advertising his presence long before they claim he actually arrived .. 1879 was the first wt wasn`t it ?

  and their advertising his presence ,when according to their beliefs he din`t actually arrive with his presence until 1914.?.

  The name changes reflect the gradual evolution of JW beliefs.

  The Bible Students / Jehovah's Witnesses taught clear up until the mid 1930's that Christ had returned invisibly in 1874.

  And it was not until the year 1925 that the concept of God's Kingdom as a physical, actual government was introduced.

  as jehovah’s witnesses, we were regularly told how awful a college education is.

  i’m no longer associated with the religion but i am not so pro university.

  it’s not because i think you are better off without a degree.

  When you think about it, (At least when I think about it...) the JW faith from start to finish and top to bottom is a monument to the "What's all this fuss about education?" mindset.

  Colleges have become so liberal in their thinking that it’s worrisome to me. I wish they would just stick to giving a helpful education and stop trying to be social justice warriors.

  It really depends on what you are studying because most universities are actually conglomerations of different colleges, schools, and institutions.

  At Arizona State University, for example, there is the W P Carey School of Business, the Sandra Day O'Conner College of Law, the College of Integrative Sciences and Arts, the Ira A Fulton School of Engineering, the Mary Lou Fulton Teacher's College, the Edson College of Health Innovation, the Barrett Honors College, etc., etc., etc. -Six different campuses, miles apart from each other.

  Examples of rabid liberalism like you are likely to hear from a conservative pundit or talk show host typically occur at colleges of liberal arts and sciences, (Or at the campus in which they reside) which is only a part of most universities.

  Words are always added (and omitted) in translation, that is the nature of the beast.

  Yes...

  Heavily inflected languages (i.e. Ancient Greek, Latin, etc.) subsume concepts we express via prepositions and pronouns into noun cases.

  It's impossible to translate these languages into English without adding in those words.

  We can quibble over word choices, but all translators do it.
