So... there's NO connection between Russell and the Masons (other than their similar history/interest in pyramidology)?

Re: Judah Ben Schroeder
by sf ini pulled this out of the "berry case evaluated" thread so my questions would not be overlooked:.
i just want to make sure i fully understand, as stated here as fact, that judah schroeder was never, is or ever will be, in any way, shape or form, a "representative" or "director" for any part of the wtbts; no matter what corporate name you call them.. what has he done and/ or what were his "duties"?.

Sorry I missed it earlier, Joel, but that was a nice post.
Whenever people become weak spiritually or get involved in some personal problem area we will stop having anything to do with them... I have no idea and never will know how my own personal path would have been shaped if instead of shunning me all my friends and family had said, you know, Joel is about to go down a path that we think will be really bad for him, lets really rally around him...
I don't see your viewpoint as blaming others for your mistakes or how your life has turned out. We all need help sometimes. Doesn't the bible speak of 'good associations', and wouldn't they be useful when we are going through tough times? Even animals in the wild rally around weaker members, especially when a serious threat is present. The Society encourages their members to ignore the bible's message and take a different approach, as you've pointed out. I don't recall it being a Christian concept, but we've gotten used to that from the WTS, eh? It's a shame.

To Prisca, MadApostate and hank,
I'm confused. Seriously.
I don't know any of the biggees at Bethel. Never have. Skally may very well be barking up the wrong tree in her search for info on Judah -- I wouldn't know. But, is there NO connection between Russell and the Masons? It doesn't matter to me one way or the other, but as for the sites who promote such a link: how are they hurting "the cause"? And, what *IS* the cause?
AGAIN, I call for XJWs to clean up their act. Promoting LIES about the WTS does nothing but HELP the WTS, and HARMS the "cause".

Hank: I haven't seen any worthwhile research...
Maybe you could post some?
If you want to stir up genuine discussions...
Maybe you could show us how?

Is this a rip off or what?!!!
by sleepy ini've been meaning to write this for a while but haven't had time .anyway about a week ago i returned from my holidays which included a trip to fance were i have relatives .during this breack my wife and i decided it might be intresting to vist the international convention staged in paris .. my wife had previously booked accommodation through the society via her mothers congregation in france.. the cost for 3 nights in 2 star accommodation was 15 pounds ($20) each a night.
which was less the the usuall price in this hotel.. i belive through making bulk booking the society gets discount.. imagine my supprise when i found out that poeple who had booked from britian through the society had paid over 600 pounds ($900) for 6 nights in 2 star accommodation not including flighs or meals.. where did all this money go ?.
i dont know how much poeple paid from other countries but i estimate that there were a least 10,000 brothers from foriegn lands.. if the true cost of accommodation was closer to 100 pounds a head they made 500 pounds profit on each pearson thats 5,000,000 pounds.

To answer your question, yes, they were ripped off. But hey, at least they got a fine, upbuilding spiritual program. That made the trip worthwhile, don'tcha think?

questions ....
by teejay in... i used to wondered about all the time when i was an active dub:.
why is it that men who study with elders make ministerial servant and elder way ahead of others who have been reaching out for years?.
why do circuit overseers spend all of their time with the spiritually strong and never follow (or set) a christ-like example of visiting those that 'need a physician,' the spiritally weak, like those in nursing homes and irregular or inactive publishers.. jehovah sent his number one son to the earth... the only-begotten.

Jehovah sent his Number One Son to the earth... the only-begotten. This superbly benevolent soul lived and died a perfectly sinless life. Why did twenty or more years go by before the Father 'inspired' men to write their biographies... two of whom didn't even know The Man personally? If that had been MY son, they'd of started to write a whole lot sooner... but that's me.
Do elder's kids really get away with more than other kids or does it just seem that way?
Why did Paul, a former persecutor of Christ's brothers and a witness to some of the killings, write so much of the New Testament? And why are the writings of so many of the people who actually knew The Man considered apocrypha?
Why did Peter, after all his years of personal association with The Man, come off looking like such a chump in his confrontation with Paul?
Does poppy grow on the Isle of Patmos?

When a brother gives a talk, his jacket and slacks must match. I think there's a scripture somewhere that says so (must be in the Greek Scriptures when Christians started wearing suits).
A brother that I know who defied this rule was counseled after his Number Five talk. No joke.
Also, jackets with side vents instead of center vents were discouraged. Again, no joke.

Any respect for organized religion ?
by friendorfoe ini was wondering other peoples views on organized religion since they left the organization ?.
me personally i think all religions started off with one mans interpatation of the bible and i'm not going there again.

Hello, friendorfoe, and welcome to the board!
I don't think any religion that's organized can be true. Organizations, by their very nature, tend to muck things up, regardless of their interests or base. I think it was Judge Rutherford who said that "religion is a snare and a racket." It may be the only truth he ever spoke. He was right on.
In my opinion, ALL organized religions are corrupt, the only difference is in what degree.

And here I spent all this time thinking that you did!! I guess I will have to re-evaluate everything I thought about you!! Oh well...

How do you spell God?
by GinnyTosken inthis summer i wanted to give my son a religious education.
by "religious education" i mean that i wanted to educate him about various religions without indoctrinating him to believe any specific way.
i want him to be knowledgable enough to be culturally literate and able to make an informed decision about his spiritual needs.. we have been reading together in genesis, but i also browsed at the library to find a book that might give us more detail about specific religious beliefs.

Ginny, interesting topic.
My daughter is being raised a JW at the moment. She's only two. Eventually, my short-term plan is to return to the meetings (on occasion) to see what she's hearing (so that I can fill in the blanks for her), but life may intervene before then... seems my wife, without me saying a word, is missing meetings more and more frequently, so who knows.
Anyway, I wonder if a child really needs to be indoctrinated with any brand of religion. Personally, I still tend to think so, but an ex-JW friend disagrees and has a reasonable argument. Occasionally he takes his children to various churches and synagogues, with no focus on any one in particular, but for the most part has the opinion that a religious upbringing is not essential to producing a healthy, well-adjusted adult.
I'm not sure. I've yet to find an answer I'm comfortable with for my daughter.
peace,
