And another -15 points for putting that damn Jar Jar back in it!!!!!!!
If Barbie is so popular, why do you have to buy her friends?
ok even at my old age[8>] i still like the super hero action flicks.. the better ones anyway.
the first superman, the first batman and even some of the sequels to bat man were not bad.. how ever this week-end it seemed like everyone went to see spiderman all at once so i didn't go yet.. they just gave the stats on the news.. spiderman grossed over $$$114,000,000.00 so far and still counting.. did anyone go see it this week-end????.
and if so.

ex-jw also complain about theocratic warfare.
they say jw lie to carry out war against satan and his system.
jw never lie.
Thats what I was thinking, SYN! LOL
A few weeks ago he/she/it was alot more coherent, now it looks like a drugged up alcoholic drivel!
Aaaahhh...entertainment!
i remember hearing stories of an elderly brother who would go to the door and ask the householder what their favorite color was.
if the householder responded blue...he would pull out the 'truth' book, if his/her response was green it was the...well, you get the idea.
this old brother had a book in every color and always placed them.
Thats what I was thinking too.. from the picture and the name, I would say he is the a writer for the Village Voice.
Could it be?
Mike, I didnt know you knew the Witnesses! Where you raised one? Info, info!
has anyone seen or heard of any letters going out from headquarters to the body of elders directing them to inform the congregations not to watch dateline?
i was wondering if this is really true or just a rumor.
if it is true, this is terrible that they can actually deny members freedom of press or punishment.
btw, does anyone know when the mentioned episode is supposed to be aired?
Thanks!
ive recently been in contact with a couple of ex-jws that i knew in my childhood.. what has surfaced is the amount of fear that we experienced as young children when we were involved with the witnesses.
i accept that children often do develop irrational fears as part of growing up, but what i am talking about here is a deep-seated fear of being harmed.. many young children that i grew up with in the witness religion were of an unusually nervous disposition.
i recall how when i was first taken to meetings that i found the whole experience somewhat sinister and strange.
For years I tried holding my breath and being as quiet as possible while pinching myself
(to make sure I would be quiet/could endure torture in the "Great Tribulation")... or else
I revisited this scenario again and again wondering if *I* would be dropped off a bridge.
This paragraph brought tears to my eyes because I had almost forgotten that that was the exact same thing I would do! Hundreds of times, from the age of 4 upward, I would try to hold my breath and pray to Jehovah for help, so I wouldnt die in the Tribulation. I was so worried about being a 'survivor'.. I liked Rambo movies and James Bond movies because it seemed they could get out of any situation, and I thought that one day I would be like them, hunted down and running.
I have been wanting to ask anyone their ideas about the possible link of OCD and being raised a jw? When I was little, I displayed several obsessive/compulsive behaviors but it went unnoticed. I would have to click a light on a certain way, say certain phrases in my head... anyway, I read a book once that said when you are in unhealthy or stressful circumstances, it can be irritated and worsen. Of course, I had a very dysfunctional home, so that could have attributed to it too. But I do wonder...
You know, even when the planes fly over my house real loud, I get a shiver. That fear of 'is Armagheddon starting?' is still there... I did suffer from panic attacks for over a year but with some good info and meditation techniques I am free from them, thank God.
Hilda,
People here act like they are SOOOOOOooooo concerned about the kids. Yet what do most worlding teach their children? Premarital sexThat was the most ignorant post I've ever read in my life. What do most 'worldling teach their children?' Hmm... well since I guess you would consider me a 'worldling', how about asking me??? For your info, I discuss morality with my son, and this is what I've taught him:
is okay. To talk profane is alright. To watch lewd entertainment is right on. Puffing on cigs is not that bad. What a sick world. And last, most parents do not discipline their children like they should. The world is a bad place and children should know it.
1. Sex is for when you're married (hopefully). If you think all good jw kids arent having sex then I'd like to know the name of the planet you live on. Here on Earth, in all 7 of the congregations I went to, the jw kids were getting it on more than the 'worldly' kids. Heck, my worldly friends were virgins and one of my jw friends gave oral sex to a man in his car during a Kingdom Hall building. You're in denial....
2.Talk profane is okay? Hmmmm.. we dont allow 'stupid', 'jerk', or anything else rude or offensive. But my jw mother and brother would tell me to F*** off and what a whore I was every other day. Weird, huh?
3. Lewd entertainment is okay? Not! Our kid watches PBS and Nickelodeon, when the tv is allowed to be on. I guess thats much worse than the R and XXX movies I've seen Ministerial Servants go to....
4. Puffing on cigarettes is okay? We teach our son that they are deadly, cancerous and horrible. I'm sure my jw brothers and sisters that would sneak to the park with me and smoke cigarettes feel much differently... maybe you should ask them.
5.The world is not all bad... I teach my son to watch out for predators...you know, the types that prey on innocent, good-hearted people? I teach him to think for himself, to get out of any situation that feels wrong... to be proud of who he is.. that God loves him regardless of his imperfections.
In final, let me tell you this, I was raised in a jw home where there were beatings, screaming, breaking things, drinking, cussing, crying, emotional games, verbal abuse, neglect, and hatred. It was only after I left that I have a good life and live morally.

Mike,
are you in the entertainment biz? I think I may know you....
most people are familiar with the account of job where satan makes the claim that the only reason humans serve god is because of selfish reasons.
god allowed satan to test this theory on job, so job was beset by numerous trials but he refused to give up on god or blame him in anyway.. it would appear that satan was proved wrong in this particular bible account but was he really?
would the majority of mankind follow jobs example if they were faced with similar trials?
Thats why I get outraged reading these accounts...
Yes, David and Bathsheba were forgiven. The child, an innocent life, was murdered. Something is very awry here.....
If, by saying that David was more hurt by having his child killed, you could say that with anyone else he cared for.... Bathseba could have been killed, or David's close relatives... killing an innocent baby does not seem right.
I do not agree with the thinking that a child should have to pay for their parents mistakes. I also dont think this would deter parents from making poor decisions. Come on, have you seen alot of parents today? Heck, they would probably rob a store just to get their kid taken away! The only thing, the only just thing, is to have every adult be responsible for what they do.... and only themselves, not their offspring.
blts on saturday mornings!!!!
mmmmmmmmmm......having one right now!!!
what the head makes cloudy the heart makes very clear.. we judge ourselves by our intentions; others judge us by our actions
I never liked service. When I lived in Hawaii.. I liked getting out in the sun sometimes, but I'll ever forget the feeling of walking up to the door, seeing a chain go under the porch and then hitting my toe on the first step. BAM! Out comes a pit bull, tearing at me... his face raging and his mouth foaming for JW flesh. I would run screaming while my mom hit them off with a stick or umbrella.
To this day I'm still leary of dogs because of so many 'attacks' in service....
The best time was at 12:30.. we would take the last house and a sister would say,' well, I guess its time to go back to the Hall.' My brother and I would meet up there... he was usually stuck with an elderly brother, me with an elderly sister. We would run to each other with big smiles, relieved our morning had come to an end. Then we'd go home and get in our play clothes and play like the normal kids got to do on weekends.

It's threads like this that keep me coming back.
Dungbeetle, thanks for posting that info. I missed it the first time around. That example was so true. I've never thought of it that way... very interesting!!
I have talked about this with others and the same ideas were expressed. For example, the Bible never talks about Adam or Even being told their children would die or the rest of their offspring. It appears they were told they would lose only their lives. Would it be fair to cripple all their offspring, millions upon millions, because of what two humans did?
The parable of Job is interesting too.... the one part I've never understood is when Job has had everything happen to him. He's in pain, his family is gone, everything has torn apart and fallen... he is crying out in misery and Jehovah starts dissing him- "Where were YOU when I made the earth?!" I always feel so bad for Job... what did he do to deserve this crap, anyway?? Because he was faithful? Then the lesson is, dont be a faithful servant of God, because you'll get majorly &^%$%^'d with.
Another one that always irked me.... Abraham and his son. God asks him to tie up his son, to get the knife out and get ready to kill him. I still have visions from the Bible Story book, the son with his eyes covered, Abraham ready to slice him. Then God stops him. What the --?? If I did this to my son, told him I wanted to make sure he loves me.... asked him to kill himself, even got the car in the garage, bound up his hands, got the car started, put him in... then turn off the car and say, 'okay son, get out. I know you love me now.' Do you think my son would feel a new, intense bond with me? Or do you think he would think I was psychotic and call the cops to arrest me??
I've never understood this!!
Someone enlighten me, please.
