SYN, maybe Im outta the loop (its happened before), but I always thought you were a man. From many of the posts you made when I first started coming here...they sounded .. i dunno... like a guy talking.
When I did see something about you being a woman being discussed, I figured it was just a joke. I never bought it...just for your peace of mind!

Ugh!!! I heard last night!!! I feel like a family member died.....
The Ann Landers section is the first page I go to, every morning (call me shallow, hehe). It's always nice to get a glimpse of what other people are going through and realizing you're not alone.
I started reading Ann Landers when I was 8 or 9. My sister would sometimes read the column to me...giggling at the absurdity of the problems and cuddling me in a big quilt. It was one of the rare times we spent together...but in the evening, I always looked forward to her snuggling up to me and talking about what was in the Ann Lander column that day.
When I got a little older, things got worse in my house. My sister married and moved away, my older brother got into a motorcycle gang and started drinking and abusing drugs. My father was a severe alchoholic and our mother beat us regularly (along with mental abuse). I felt as if I was the only person in the world.... then one night I read a letter that could have been from me.... a young girl was going through the same thing and was very depressed. I remember Ann telling her it wasnt her fault, that her parents had their own issues. She also mentioned talking to an adult about it. Although I went to the elders (who did nothing at all), it helped me immensely knowing there was someone out there going through what I did, and would one day be able to get away from it.
I also liked her positive attitude... I remember telling people who complained of bad childhoods that once they were adults, they had the choice of breaking the cycle...or continuing it and being unhappy. I never forgot that.... I always remember that it is my choice to live courageously or curl up and wither away.
She was a fiesty ole woman with alot of heart. I'm going to miss her greatly.

Bhagavad,
I'm so glad that you've found the posts here to be encouraging. I can think of nothing more lovely than putting those words by your wife's picture....when you look at it, I hope you can read them and remember how many people are supporting you.

George Benson was a jw....I lived in Kauai for over 13 years and met him a few times at the assemblies in Honolulu. My mother and I were shocked when watching Arsenio (back in the early 90's)...he came out singing wearing a huge glittery cross!!!
So he must be answering another calling?
and Ja Rule!????!?? I've never heard he was a jw! ?? Really?? 'Everybody start livin it up..' Well if he is/was, he sure knows how to party now!

Not Interested,
I feel for you! Growing up, I was surrounded by many alcoholic family members, and I have found that many of them suffered from depression and loneliness. During hard times in my life, (depression, anxiety, boredom..) I turned to alchohol but it always made things worse. Alchohol is a natural depressant and although it might release your pain for awhile, always intensifies it later.
I think it's great advice to attend an AA meeting. I attended one with my friend, thinking I would get no good from it. I found that having many alchoholic family members, I have a high risk of suffering from it too. I also learned how to deal with stress and realized that many of the characteristics of alchohol abusers were ones that I've displayed before. It's not some strange cult ... it really helps. Its nice knowing there are others out there like you...

Anyone remember?
by RR in.
just a quick question.
anyone have a reference in the kingdom ministry where the society suggested a donation [i think it was $60.00] for the cd roms?

Jourles, very good points made.I've wondered the same thing for years. Dan B, I agree. I was a kid back in the 70's and remember the magazines being 15 cents..also was told it just covered the printing costs.
Now they ask for a donation to help the 'worldwide preaching effort'. I always squirmed when having to do this (back when I went in service)... I hate asking for handouts. Most of the time, the householder would give a few dollars. I remember thinking, if the average person gave a few dollars, when they only used to give 15 cents, the WTS has made a big profit in the last few years!!

Celia, thanks for the advice! I'll try it on pork...
Elsewhere, you know it! I recently read a book about veggies and fruit and it talks how our bodies are meant to eat those...not carbs like bread, pasta, etc. I try to eat little else than fruit and veggies, also whole grains. My heart will thank me later! So will yours!
