  I agree. I was politically aware since I was 14. Later as an adult I was more involved in many events. That's aside from activism.

  I think that in a way, some people feel attracted to the message that the WT delivers because they offer a solution to many of the problems that politics will never be able to solve. Many current and former JWs care for the world around them, want solutions to social and political problems. others are very frustrated with the way politics seems to never get us anywhere. Then the WT offers a complete replacement of every single government in the planet and unify it by allowing only people who do and believe the exact same thing.

  What/how we deal we it, that's a different story. Some ex-JWs keep that same mindset about every single person having to have the exact same believes and way of thinking, expecting different results by doing the same thing that got them nowhere in the first place.

  Is it clergy privilege?

  just wanted to pose the question to the group and see what the general opinion is vs what the wt may have claimed in other cases.. we all know that they have argued over clergy privilege when elder learn of a crime but keep quiet about it.

  regardless of what one may feel about this, lets assume for a minute that they are correct.. all elders are directed to contact the branch when they learn of a case of child abuse.

  would the conversation between the elder and the branch be considered under the "clergy privilege"?

  I know. Sadly those same people who feel disgusted over the position of clergy on sexual abuse, are the same that support it when it comes to discrimination over other classes, oppression of the poor, insanely unclear tax exemptions, and the list goes on.

  The problem is not the clergy. People shut up and pretend that they don't know, sometimes children's own parents.

  I'd see a valid point against the exceptions to the clergy following the law, when people are consistent about it, not just when the clergy do things that they don't like, but then support when that applies to things that they do like.

  i have been rereading a lot about rutherford lately; about his personality and the kind of person he was.

  i have come to the conclusion that he was a lot like donald trump.. he was an accused womanizer.. he was a narcissist with a self inflated ego.

  he claimed to be persecuted by the media all the time.

  Nope. There might be similarities in some character flaws, but Joseph Rutherford = Joseph Rutherford and Donald Trump = Donald Trump

  I know that a lot of people in this forum learn a lot about things by comparison (i.e., being a JW is like living in North Korea), but at some point somebody should start advocating for people to start facing the realities of their own lives.

  There has to a psychological/sociological explanation for how Rutherford and Trump rose to power, despite being such horrible people.
  

  There is. Research the psychology of harmful leadership. The profile of the cult follower, and collective negative influence.

  You will be surprised how much information about it there is.

  I'd wear it under certain circumstances that Trump followers might not feel happy about. other than that, no.

  However, I would defend every right that anyone who chooses to wear it has to do so freely. I've seen people wearing that hat and I can't care less one way or another. Freedom of expression is for all Americans, not just the ones I like.

  Can others say the same? Anyone?

  I always dream of having a life like the one he showed on TV in his shows. Seems like he had his own demons. It's shocking and sad to me. May he be in peace now.

  Farewell Liberals - Doug Ford Wins in Ontario

  the conservatives have won in ontario and the liberals who held power there for 15 years crashed so hard they didn't get enough seats to even retain official party status.

  people are sick of them and the mess they make!.

  hopefully this is the start of a wave across canada that will sweep the liberals from positions where they can do harm, ending with the king of the clowns, trudeau..

  I've always been curious on how we can split our political views. Even in places like here, where we all have been in the receiving end of narcissistic ultraconservatives who feel they are entitled to the praise and money of their followers.
  

  Idiots split their believes into that conservative/liberal shit (all of them, left, right, libtards, alt-right, and whatever made up shit you claim people are. Yes, you read right, I called it all shit because it is). The rest of us normal people in their right mind, know how to make our own decisions.

  It's baffling that people coming from a brainwashing cult continue the exact same harmful mindset.

  Grow up, think for your own selves.

  Suggestions for horror/supernatural movies

  hey guys, so now that i’m pretty much atheist and i’m not scared of demons or supernatural things, or bring them into my house by watching movies or reading books about them lol, i defenitly want to watch a few scary movies.

  i’ve always loved scary movies, but as witness, you don’t get to watch many since they need to be pg-13 and have no spiritism in it lol.

  does anyone have any suggestions?

  I don't have any suggestions, but there are different types of horror. There are some horror movies that are too crude in the killings. There are also stories that have some christian/religious connotations. There are some that are laughable at how badly they are done, but they are fun nonetheless.

  I'm sure that as you start getting into them, you'll develop your own taste.

  so miss america pageant is going to remove the swimsuit and evening gown parts of their pageant because they have decided it's demeaning to women.

  i guess it will just be women in overcoats telling us they want world peace .... bravo, we all applaud, right?

  maybe we shouldn't be so quick to do so .... what is it really saying?

  I agree. It's insane. They are trying to make it a "competition", not a pageant. However, the Miss America event has experienced a number of challenges through the years, mostly because it is in fact based on an outdated idea of the place in women in society.

  That said, removing the swim suit contest, in my humble opinion, does not do anything other than bringing attention to it. I think it's an attention seeking move. The reality is that the even has suffered tremendously throughout the years.

  Nonsense. You don't need to look at any other place that you might not agree with to understand the effect of negative influence. High chances are that the person who said that has never even been to North Korea.

  Learn about negative influence; that can give you a clue of how that can happen right in your own home, no need to look at other people's ideas of how people live in other countries.

  after a bit of a kerfuffle over a procedural matter, my university has awarded me a degree.

  (the procedural problem was caused by my independent selection of what i wanted to study).

  award : bachelor of arts.
