Self Intro

years ago on one of my last witnessing trips i left two magazines with an intelligent looking woman with a lovely house.

she gave my a donation and we carried on.

after 45 minutes she tracked us down at another house and returned the mags to me saying we "hate homosexuals and are preaching hatred..." she looked very upset and i was shocked by this and because someone actually bothered to read the magazines i just left!

Hate for gay people used to be the one common denominator from pretty much every religion. Times have changed for the better. Today, many of those opposing to same sex unions for religious reasons (there are others who do for other reasons) try to change the narrative and make it about something that it's not. They are the ones who always start talking about sex, sex with animals, pedophilia and all other disgusting behavior, when the issue is about the benefits, entitlements and protections that the law provides when people get married.

The worst part of it are LGBT+ JWs who get convinced of all the hateful crap and go on preaching and endorsing hate for their own selves. Sad (been there myself, though). Some make it out of that nonsense, but not all.

i left 5 years ago and even though i've had therapy and have been medicated somehow, something from the last creeps up on me.

i started writing a book, mostly for my own healing.

i wrote a letter to my parents of everything i had wanted to say but knew i wouldn't get a chance to.

would it be considered inappropriate to ask forums like this for willing participants to send me their letters? I would keep everything anonymous if requested. Thanks for your input!

Thanks for sharing. I thnk your idea is great to share with people who know and understand where the writers come from. The forum admins can tell you about how appropriate it is, but I think that's a great idea.

With me, the thing is that I actually wrote my letters about 20 years ago (I uses Lotus AmiPro word processing program!). Your idea is making me want to revisit my life at that time. Makes me take a look at my way of thinking back then.

I may share them. Thanks.

Is it me?

so, i’ve been out going on 10 years and at times i think about going back, but i can never muster the energy.

over the last few however, i’ve noticed that a lot of people who were in good standing, and pillars in the congregation and org are now df’d.

most know i’ve been out for a while and see that i’m doing pretty good and want to talk or get together.

but really don’t want to hang out with the MFers that a few years ago looked at me like I was some syphilitic outcast.

No, you're not the only one. A lot of those JW assholes that made my life difficult are in the same place, divorced, disfellowshipped, in summary, life just happens.

My take on that is that many of those self righteous idiots do that to shift the focus away from their own actions and who/how they really are. Life does catch up. Karma is a bitch.

Goes to show that just because JWs claim that they aren't part of the world, doesn't mean that they aren't.

Strip off the old personality

yesterday’s watchtower talked about how by becoming a jw it enabled “worldly” people to ‘strip off the old personality’ and make really significantly good changes in their life.. paragraph named 4 individuals (anonymous names of course and probably embellished tales)) sakura, ribeiro, stephen, and hans.

their lives changed for the good because they found god or because they became jw’s---right?.

so on the way home from this wt meeting, my wife commented to me how wonderful our brotherhood is and how it helps people who would otherwise be ‘lost’ n this world.

To me this goes to my point that a lot of people join for reasons other than caring about life forever or whether God is a trinity or not. They find comfort and a way to stay away from a lifestyle that have harmed them in a past, and don't necessarily care about doctrine or prophecy.

This is why when helping others out, they may not care much about discussing discrepancies in the things they say.

then, my sister passed away in a car accident, she was fairly young, as she was in her early 20s.

...these types of success stories are not unique to jw’s. All religions and other organizations, such as AA, have the same types of experiences. She went silent but I could see that she heard what I said.

That is absolutely true. There are plenty of other places, events and religions that can help and/or inspire people to make positive changes in their lives.

Most importantly is that in the case of the JWs, you never hear any follow up to those stories. I remember way back when they published this ridiculous story about a gay man who stopped being gay after becoming a JW. That story was constantly used against every LGBT JW person to show them that it's possible to change one's sexual orientation.

However, I did my own research and found that the person in that story got disfellowshipped after his story came out, and guess why he was disfellowshipped?

There never is a follow up to those so-called success stories, mostly because part 2 of those people's lives may not be as great as they claim.
