Why does Joel Vacillate? G rated
by joelbear innathan asks why i vacillate back and forth in my feelings regarding the watchtower society.
i thought i would answer that in a thread of its own.. i love the ideals of jehovah's witnesses.
a united human society where everyone does the best they can and helps others do the best they can to serve god.. i hate my real life experiences with jehovah's witnesses where people were all over the board, some great people, dedicated to their beliefs, others living double lives, others very materialistic, basically living like everyone else in the world which they condemned.

University Question
by Naeblis infor the last year or so i've been mulling over quitting everything, becominga bum, and actually going to university.
i work with computers, and though the pay is good (hence my still doing it), i can't shake the feeling that this isn't what i'm supposed to be doing.
i want to do something with english.

I think it's becoming pretty democratized. In computer programming, nobody cares what school you went to if you can write excellent code.
In the Liberal Arts, the test is papers and dissertations. One barrier to democratization is that it is such a subjective process in deciding which papers are good, and which are bad. Also, there is absolutely no money in it.
Why not study lit. on you spare time and become an excellent amateur commentator. Write letters to newspapers, periodicals, etc. Try to get something published. Damn the traditional methods of education. Use the Net.

Deep Concerns
by Derrick inyears ago an evangelical christian couple invited me into their home on a hot summer day.
over glasses of lemonade they shared their amazing theory about the watchtower society, a twisted but insanely plausible one that has mentally percolated over the years.
every now and then their theory surfaces in my thoughts with occasional "what if" scenarios about the true nature of the mysterious "men behind the curtain in oz" (with oz being a metaphor for the vatican city of jehovah's witnesses' world that is headquartered in new york state).

Are there really a lot of witnesses who came into the organisation AFTER having been involved in several other religions, researching them, searching for the RIGHT ONE? Most I know and have known wouldn't know where to begin an academic investigation into belief systems.

my story... still unfolding
by LyinEyes ini will try to be to the point with this and make it as short and sweet as possible.
my hubby is wild turkey and we have not been to a meeting since may of last year.
he was the one who started having doubts and shared them with me, i hit the roof and told him he was gonna bring demons in our home!

"They let her problem go so dad could stay an elder."
The extent to which jw leadership places the interests of the organization over the interests of it's members is unexscusable.
There are lots of writings on the sins of the Catholic Church and other religious organizations, but very little, only recently a small number of books and some grass-roots organized websites, that pull back the curtain on the jw's.

How Field Service Destroys the WTS
by metatron inyears ago, congregations all over the world were built up.
and solidified by the door to door work.
since all witness.

I agree with Metatron's statement here:
"Aside from third world countries, most of the door to door
ministry is imaginary. Homes are empty, people won't come to
the door, and actually quoting the Bible at doors has become
a rare event for countless Witnesses. The 'ministry' therefore
quickly declines into attempted magazine selling - in between
coffee breaks - and long waits in the car."There may have been a conscious decision on the part of watchtower leadership to emphasize retaining current members, growing slowly or not at all. The cost of bringing in new members has risen signigicantly. Bringing people into the organization as adults, who have already had life experiences as students, workers, and parents, has other problems. These people are generally more sophisticated and more difficult to control than the "home-grown" witness.
The leadership may have decided that smaller growth is better. Less problems, less work, and the org is still making money hand over fist. There is a lot more money to be pulled from the rank and file, and the cost of aquisition of those dollars is less than the cost of aquiring dollars from new recruits.

GOSSIP In the Kingdom Hall
by Sunflower1982 inthe overwhelming amount of gossip that circulated through my kingdom hall was a major factor in my decision to stop attending meetings.
every meeting, every day of field service, and every gathering was plagued with vicious rumors that people told to keep themselves entertained.
surprisingly, the pioneers and elder's wives were the worst of everyone.

I think you appropriately sum up the political atmosphere in hard-line congregations.
Remember, you're way in this life is through the Hardline. KTCK 1310.

Why doen't God perform miracles today?
by sleepy inwhy did jesus do miracles?.
it is alledged that some 2000 years ago a man claimed to be the son of god , or even god himself (depends what religion you are).. in order to give some weight to his cliam he did some miracles, cured a few lepers, made a slap up lunch out of some fish and bread, and took a walk on some water.. all this to prove he was gods son.. but to prove it to who?.
if you ask a witness why god doen't perform miracles today , what do they say.. we don't need miracles today we have it all written in the bible.. der.

Ignored Aspect of Pedophilia
by Francois inmuch has been said about pedophilia among jws, as it should be.
but there is one aspect of it that i don't remember anyone bringing up, and it's very, very telling.. in something like 95% of all cases of pedophilia, the spouse knows what's going on.
ninety five percent.

Francois, that is an execellent argument for pedophilia being a sickness, but the fixer in me says to just lock them away forever, not treat them. Would you agree with this?
