I had been taught that this account was more from the perspective of Moses (Noah? I can't remember who wrote genesis unfortunately) having a vision of all this and that, taken nonliterally, this was more indicative of the clouds blocking the sun out being cast away and naming the day and night cycle for the existing Sun and Moon etc. Still, the more they fit science into the narrative the more it brings into question the process of evolution, because honestly breaking it down this way made the notion of evolutionary biology more viable but I was sorta stiffled about it.

I'd like to see something like this
by frozen2018 ina dragon aurora over iceland.
i've seen auroras, both northern and southern, but nothing like this.. .
while not nearly as spectacular as a dragon aurora, if you think of it take a look at the super snow moon tonight.

Maybe one of the ancient people saw that and thought that was the dragon god was casting down :P It certainly would freak my mind to see that after a few weeks of fasting.

Watchtower Trolleys With Added Bling
by cofty inmy wife and i were in edinburgh on saturday (did a ghost tour) and around dusk we passed two trolleys on the high street — aka 'the royal mile' — that both had two rows of led lights under the little shelves.
has anybody else seen this or is it a local innovation?
i'm happy to report their pimped-up trolleys were attracting no attention as usual.

I always get a weird mix of admiration and pity about this sort of thing. On the one hand it definitely probably gives the cart users a sense of cutting edge, usefulness and maybe a bit of feeling of uniqueness to those pimi much like how the jw.oorg pins probably give a side helping of pride/patriotism that they may feel lacking. That said the pity comes out when thinking of individuals that have to scrape together these elements from something like that rather than something of their own hands or mind.
Honestly I still have family pimi and are doing well for themselves and enjoying a fairly educated and diverse lifestyle while still preaching so I probably get those feelings of admiration from the people I know that are preaching/living better than the GB teach to do. Probably a rare thing but I'm not really someone who was in either like a lot of you guys were.

Is this how you saw your Armageddon? I sure did :(
by Diogenesister ini think most of our imaginations of the new world was probably nothing like the watchtower reality.
after all, we jws are very good at avoiding uncomfortable truths!
you can tell micheal jackson was a certain type of jehovahs witness.

Honestly I never really thought too much on the destruction part and just had thoughts on paradise. Honestly I figured it be angels destroying the armies of the governments and Satan while everyone else watched on. I find it strange that if the faithful are to be protected during the final hour that go bags, shelters and everything are even necessary. I figured the faithful would get the same protection as the apostles in the Lions pit illustrations the WT published: buff angels guarding the meek etc.
On a positive note one of my few dreams that I had of paradise that I can remember was going to what was an abandoned/repurposed shopping mall that was being used as like a community center, people trading goods, playing music, seeing my family members meeting up all that fluffy stuff, and I met this nice Indian girl and her pet tiger (stereotypical subconscious eh?) She was cool.

Life as a Perfect Human in the New System of Things
by RubaDub ini have always wondered how basic things that we do to ourselves will be handled as "perfect" human beings.. i recall someone here had a quote from an old wt that said that if we fall off a roof or something that there will be some "force" to soften the fall and we will not be injured.. but, as a perfect human, if we travel to mexico and drink water from the tap, will we get the squirts, flying shits, montezuma's revenge, or whatever you wish to call it?
maybe we will be protected as perfect human beings and have colons that also are perfect.
but who knows.. just pondering these common things that we take for granted.. rub a dub.

Honestly I would still love to live forever with youth and good health so long as I got to keep some other people around me who consent to the notion as well, though as I get older my view on that would change, but I feel like I dont have enough time for all the things I want to learn and do now and I'm only 28. I'm a fairly slow and lazy person as it is so time flies when I dont want it to.

I always figured that "perfect" human status would remove illness, disease, cancer and aging. As for pain of injury and such I figured we could still end up hurting ourselves though accident but healing and pain would be quick and short, as I feel that no pain would essentially mean we lose half of our senses and our ability to contrast pleasure and pain, leading to dulled senses overall. Afterall Jesus was able to be killed as a perfect human and the wording about the fruit is "you positively will die", possibly meaning even Adam and Eve could possibly die but possibly not as a permanent status.

"Do not make for yourself an image of God ..."
by stuckinarut2 ina thought struck me regarding the biblical directive found in a few places including exodus 20:4.
"do not make a likeness of god in the form of any creature that is on the earth or heavens ".
it would seem disrespectful to use "dirty" creatures to describe perfect beings?.

I think it's less contradictory and more of one was a law to not make new Gods/represent God through a craft image or a mortal creature whereas the appearance of angels and heavenly beings is comprehension of what goes beyond mortal existence. Afterall YHWH didn't even want stones to be carved to make his altars, just use natrual stone, to prevent the possibility of it and to keep the natrual purity of the stone, I imagine it goes. Then again the copper altar also had horns like the bull and angels typically took on animal appearances like the Lions head in the wheels, but again this could be interpretive writing.

Personally I've had moments of horrible depression and doom where I'd be in my room crying and bemoaning my situation to a near paralyzed state. One instance had lasted around a week, of which I had prayed and expressed my feelings and issues. I suddenly had an overwhelming sense of calm and started telling myself what I needed to hear and within about 30 minutes I felt like I had a 180 on every thing bringing me down. Maybe it was just my chemicals came back in balance but it doesn't disqualify the possibility of some external help.
Also our living condition borders on evicted and living comfortably so closely it feels like someone is giving us the slightest help sometimes, though I do know my family works hard to keep things going, myself included

May 2019 Watchtower doubles down on the "Two Witness Rule" !
by stuckinarut2 inthis is simply disturbing and infuriating!.
the may 2019 wt has defiantly and arrogantly been released by the gb, and it is full of their disgusting excuses for not complying with authorities!.
(i have seen and read all the articles, but cant work out how to upload a link here - perhaps someone can assist?).

I skimmed through the article and it looks like while their priority is still skewed on some aspects they seem to be covering more bases and clearing up that the abused/elders should definitely report the crime if it comes to knowledge and that if the community finds out it's not the vicitm bringing reproach, it's the abuser.
Which this is all well and good but super super behind on getting this all cohesive rather than scattered about and left for easy abuse by unscrupulous elders.

Historical snapshot of how Watch Tower manipulated $$
by TerryWalstrom incharles t. russell, age of 13, joined the congregational church (dumped presbyterian).. he went (like girl scouts are sent out with cookies to sell) door to door to raise money for the congregational church.. attitude as a youthrussell hated fundraising.
he had to ask poor people to part with their money.
he said he felt he was "fleecing the flock.".

If the WT wasn't so focused on hating the world the amount of coordination, money and chutzpah could help so many so easily...
Man that bugs me. I don't do a lot myself but even I can gift a stranger some money for gas or some money for a food bank here and there
