"Christian (jw) men not being allowed to wear beards"
Not so in Europe. Here it is allowed.
this news was announced today on the journal "le monde": http://www.lemonde.fr/societe/article/2011/06/30/temoins-de-jehovah-la-cour-europeenne-des-droits-de-l-homme-condamne-la-france_1543102_3224.html#xtor=rss-3208.
unfortunately, the european court of human rights has just condemned the french government against jehovahs witnesses.
if you recall, the french state was claiming 23 million euro (abt 33 million us dollars) taxes on contributions received by the french watchtower during the years 1993-96, which, by now, had climbed to about 58 million euro (abt 83 million us dollars) counting interests and charges.. it is not easy to size the wt.
One will notice that nowhere in the official news release does the WT claim 17 million members. The jw-media.org only mentions the number of followers in France itself. There is no reason to make a huge thing out of something not existing.

Wasanelder - I agree. Two elders trying their best politely to answer never-ending "what if" - questions.
can anyone tell me why rutherford is not shown giving a talk or speaking in public?
i noticed that russell was on film in the first dvd -out of darkness but rutherford was shown in a picture only - never speaking or doing a public presentation, same goes for the second one -they have an actor portraying him... was there a reason?
was his persona that bad?
I've listened to tens of speeches by him, and he never screams or yells or anything, he is low-tuned, calm, a bit Southern and cool.

The French writer Émile Deschamps claims in his memoirs that, in 1805, he was treated to some plum pudding by a stranger named Monsieur de Fontgibu. Ten years later, the writer encountered plum pudding on the menu of a Paris restaurant and wanted to order some, but the waiter told him that the last dish had already been served to another customer, who turned out to be de Fontgibu. Many years later, in 1832, Deschamps was at a dinner and once again ordered plum pudding. He recalled the earlier incident and told his friends that only de Fontgibu was missing to make the setting complete—and in the same instant, the now senile de Fontgibu entered the room.
In his book Synchronicity (1952), Jung tells the following story as an example of a synchronistic event: "A young woman I was treating had, at a critical moment, a dream in which she was given a golden scarab. While she was telling me this dream, I sat with my back to the closed window. Suddenly I heard a noise behind me, like a gentle tapping. I turned round and saw a flying insect knocking against the window-pane from the outside. I opened the window and caught the creature in the air as it flew in. It was the nearest analogy to a golden scarab one finds in our latitudes, a scarabaeid beetle, the common rose-chafer (Cetonia aurata), which, contrary to its usual habits had evidently felt the urge to get into a dark room at this particular moment. I must admit that nothing like it ever happened to me before or since."
Jung wrote, after describing some examples, "When coincidences pile up in this way, one cannot help being impressed by them—for the greater the number of terms in such a series, or the more unusual its character, the more improbable it becomes."
it's from the jwtalk.net (the jdub forum).
the name of the topic is "bethel volunteers?":.
dub1: it was announced at our meeting last night volunteers for bethel in nyc.
Nothing new. This arrangement has been going on for years in Europe.
i'm curious as to why this is a national topic for a service meeting part?
has anyone any thoughts on this?.
In Europe too, and based on the Organized book.

Should not the title have been "Active Moslem kills 12 people"?
i was speaking with someone who would like to know, does anyone know exactly who the current gb members are?
e.g.
names?.
when Barr croaks
Barr is dead. The present GB has seven members.
i noticed a very interesting question from poppers on godrulz's thread concerning buddha and whether or not he went to hell.
apparently he did according to godrulz, even though he knew nothing about judaism (and the bible gives no indication that the jews traveled to the far east) and he had lived 600 years before christ (so there was no great commission to spread the gospel).. jehovah's witnesses, what do you think?
my wife and i had a good laugh over this question as when i asked her three times where did buddha go, she kept responding, "he's right here.
I think Buddhism is very close to as far as you can get or come by means of human thinking / meditation, and is as such a very good, deep, solid set of thinking and life philosophy. And there is much Buddhism in much of what is taught today in psychology / philosophy, for example within the thoughts of Jung and others. I do not see why Buddha should not be raised, and within a resurrection-based framework of belief I am sure he will enjoy life and the new teachings he will learn, and that he will embrace it all, lover of all living and all creation as he was.
