"How would the U S A Witnesses react if one of their number took to wearing a lapel pin of the national flag?"
How did they react when the Williams sisters saluted the flag as they won the Olympics?

cross posting from another thread.
it seems that i might not be the only nerd here that's interested in statistics like this so maybe it deserves it's own topic.. so i was playing around with google.com/trends with some jw related search terms.
i found the results a bit surprising, and certainly interesting, so i figured i'd share.. first off, the link to what i tried.. one of the most surprising things that stood out was the regional interest.
"Decline in real numbers must be seen as a fact, and future decline, I predict, will accelerate."
Funny how that line has been repeated over and over again ever since around 1978, but still the numbers are growing .
Kaik, your comments are worth reading for all those commenting on decline or growth in individual countries. Japan has an ageing population, I even think it is declining, and therefore it is not to be expected that a growth should take place. Poland, Lithuania, Roumania and other countries see the young people leave the country and set out for Western Europe, and so the remaining population is ageing and declining. In some of the Northwestern European countries, the especially Polish immigrants constitute aroung 7-8-9-10 per cent of the JWs.
So in stead of quickly and easily looking at the figures for Poland and shouting out that "Look! There is decline in the number of Polish JWs!", you would have to add the members of the Polish-speaking congregations throughout Europe as well as the ones being in the "native speaking" congregations.
Statistics is becoming more and more tricky with this damned open world - it was easier when there were walls dividing us

It is a bit strange that the dot is the starting sign of the second line.
In stead of jw/.org I would have found it more natural to write jw./org
Or is that just me?
i'm not fond of any religious fanatic.
islamic fundies can be downright crazy.
mormonism seems silly to me.
But IS it true that it is no honourable way to leave? In my congregation's area, there are around 10 persons who are baptised and no longer attend any meetings, not because they are old and sick, but because they simply have stopped attending. They are in the age range of 30/35 to 65. They are greeted when met, from time to time invited to outings, have magazines put in their mailbox from time to time - they are not shunned in any way. So is this point of no honourable leaving a thing from the past that is stuck in the mind of people who have themselves been shunned, but things are slowly changing these days - or are there areas in Europe where the good old liberals still exist?
three months ago i had to stop driving my car.
it wouldn't pass inspection and it would cost about $3k to get it up to par.. well, it's a 98 honda accord with about 179 thousand miles on it, what did i expect?.
.. i decided i would switch to riding a bicycle instead.. it has worked out fairly well.. i put about 10 miles a day on it.
So that is how it is living in a police state. 4 cars for one bicycle thief. If someone steals your car, they send in the Airforce?
lillian gobitas klose, the jehovahs witness who refused in 1935 to salute the american flag in minersville, pa. started a trail that ultimately changed american legal history died aug. 22 at age 90. only three years after it had ruled against the gobitas family, the supreme court voted 6-3 to overturn that decision in a case involving a family of jehovahs witnesses from west virginia.. regardless of what one might think of jehovahs witnesses, lillian gobitas is an example of a person whose willingness to fight for her beliefs has expanded everyones personal freedoms.. http://republicanherald.com/news/minersville-girl-made-legal-history-1.1744279.

"once they even said more jws died in concentration camps than Jews."
Rebel8, could you please give the source, tell me where that was stated?
ask any jehovah's witness you happen to see to explain the recent changes to the anointed and faithful slave, most have no ideas how they are robbing all authority from the anointed jws to keep for themselves.
they can't even explain the "overlapping generation", how can we expect them to catch the errors this dogma is teaching them.
this article is written by someone who knows about jws and explains in details how bad this doctrine is, it's full of holes!.
"they are robbing all authority from the Anointed JWs to keep for themselves."
The anointed JWs never had any authority. Some of them had in their own eyes, and behaved like kings and queens in their local congregations, but all authority has always been well sealed within the framework of the GB/HQ/"Society". Nothing has changed in day-to-day business.

if the us wants war, they can pay for it and fight it.
world peace thru budgeting constraints would still be world peace.. .
"Europeans NEVER cared about one another. Never. When Czechoslovakia (or Hungary) was attacked by Soviet Union, nobody in Europe rised a single voice of support against injustice. Not single time during cold war."
On what planet do you live?
this famous line from proverbs 27:23 (in the old nwt) is used for elders and the organization to justify field service reports.
but, what is this verse talking about?
is it about overseers in the congregation?
"This famous line from Proverbs 27:23 (in the old NWT) is used for elders and the organization to justify field service reports."
This verse has not been used for many years to signify that. Because the expression used is "your flock", it was pointed out that the individual JWs were not the flock of the elders, but the flock of Jesus Christ, and so this verse could not be used in the context of elders.
