In this country, the elders have the same confidentiality codes as the rest of the clergy, but all the clergy - and all JW elders - have to areas where it is not valid, namely drug crimes and child molestations. If one withholds information on known crimes in these two ares, one is guilty with the criminals. Therefore, all such crimes have to be, and are, reported by the elders to the police.

JWs and Confidentiality
by DakotaRed inoveja asked me to start a thread on this with the following statement;.
"i spoke to a jw & she told me that they are aware of the child abuse cases.
her opinion was that the elders are under the "confidentiality laws" & that's why they didn't do any reportings.

Extraordinary increase...?
by MacHislopp inas the time passes , the wtbs inc. did ...slowly but steadily decline the use of the expression .. the increase is a proof of jehovahs blessing on his people..!.
now, in the year 2002 it has surfaced again, .

The death rate is 1 % per year, and it has been stated that some 1 % are disfellowshipped and 1 % dissasosiate themselves. So 3 % are lost each year. If you for these 30 years have an average (I could calcute it year by year, but don't have the time now) of say 3,000,000 - you will lose 90,000 annually, or 2,700,000 over these 30 years, and that is not far from the exact number you are "missing". So there is no mystery about these figures, it's just plain demography and statistics. As to some other figures, there are mysteries, I'll try to calculate those ones later.

What does the average Witness know?
by Grunt ini have to wonder what the average witness today knows?
i guess they are under orders not to talk to anyone that might actually be able to inform them of any facts that are negative or unflattering to the society, but what have they found out anyway, through whatever means, even the publications?.
1. do they know that russell got a lot of dates from the measurements of pyramids, including 1914?

Grunt; just a point to your question no. 3:
This is no longer true; as of January, 2000, the literature is dlivered "free" in all countries.
Just to clarify that one. -

Why do JWs segregate themselves?
by WinstonWigglesworth ini was wondering today about how jw are not allowed to socialize with wordly people.
how can they judge other religions if they aren't allowed to witness religous practises other than their own?
my friend is a jw, so to better understand her religion i participated in one of her religious gatherings...yet when i invited her to my church she wasn't allowed.

A question, Earnest:
What about the so-called "privileges"; for rather obvious reasons, it's a bit difficult to be appointed an auxhilliary prioneer if one does not report hours, but what about ministerial servant / public prayers / literature distribution etc. - are you given any of these jobs? -

Why are they owned by the Bible Students? Do you know anything about that?
I was under the impression the older literature was not copyrighted, and so was "owned by nobody"? -

I ain't doin'nothin', my friend, but telling how I feel about things and how I apply things. I ain't typical of anything, just of myself, who try in this world to keep carrying the torch of rebellion or not-conforming as I did before becoming a Witness, also after having become one.

Watchtower's New Loving Arrangement
by cyrano inrecently jehovah has provided new light to the organization regarding personal conduct during the meetings.. an increasing number of our brothers and sisters have not focused their attention completely on the material being presented at the meetings.
these distractions have caused a few to lose out on the life-saving food given at the 'proper time'.. in view of such matters, a new position in the congregation has been established.
following the loving directions of proverbs 12:1, a congregation disciplinary servant will now monitor all brothers and sisters to ensure they are paying full attention.. no doubt, many wonder what christian duties the new disciplinary servants will be blessed with.

But it's nothing new. Back in the 15th and 16th centuries, when Mass lasted for 3 hours or so, there were monks and servants moving around in the audience, and they would whip the ones who had fallen asleep. So it 's just reverting to Old Light, calling it New Light.

Sudden Rash of JW Apologists
by NeonMadman inam i the only one who sees it as a bit odd that a large number of jw apologists has suddenly come out of the woodwork on this board to defend the actions of the watchtower society toward bill bowen, barbara anderson and the pandelos?
for the longest time, virtually the only ones on this board who advocated an essentially orthodox jw viewpoint were you know and nytelecom/mavman (though each of them could easily be classed with us "apostates" if the watchtower knew of their disagreements with the party line).. but suddenly, we have a bunch of totally loyal, utterly doctrinaire jw apologists posting almost exclusively on threads related to the pedophile issue.
most of them are taking next to impossible positions from any reasonable standpoint.

To dungbeetle: I fill in the magazines, return calls etc., but not the hours. That makes them wonder ........ My reasons? Because I'm not into "comparision with others", and that includes the national average.

"Are not allowed"? There is no-one there who has the capasity of not allowing others to do anything. Each and every person is responsible for his own actions. It is the person him/herself who allows others either to or not to allow him/herself to do things. People have only so much control over yourself, which you allow them to have. Living as an "independant" Witness is not hard at all, once you have established towards yourself and towards the others the "set of rules" which you follow.
The book study conductor calls me to ask for the monthly report, as I did not deliver it to him or in the box at the month's final book study. "No", I say, "I won't deliver it to you; I will stick to the old and established system of delivering it either in the box in the Hall or to the secretary." "OK", he says after a short pause, "I guess there is no need for me to be a go-between." "Correctly", I say. I deliver the reports a couple of months too late, the one for March in May etc., and when questionsed, I say that "I deliver them when I remember, and when I feel like doing it." "OK", they say, "that's OK." You follow your decisions, and the others will let you in peace. You stand towardfs God and Jesus, not men.
"The only ones to be saved"? I think not necessarily so. The end hasn't come, God has not spoken his judgment, and when he does, I for one dare no way make any prophecies as to will be found where. I do as good as I can, and then let him decide as to the outcome. I burden myself not with fear or premature joy. -

***In the beginning God created.
by MacHislopp ini'm sure that millions are familiar with the.
sentence in genesis 1:1, but what many are ignorant about is.
"in 1878 god began to restore the original truths, using a small group of jehovah's witnesses in america.

If you had quoted or copied the whole articles where these statements are made, I think you - and we - would have seen, that what is referred to, is not pyramids and chronological speculations etc., but Biblical teachings as the ransom, the mortality of the soul, the non-existance of hell and purgatory, the sacredness of God's name, the relationship between God and Jesus and hence non-existance of the trinity, and a couple or other basic teachings.
As for the older literatrure, it is easy to get for example thru eBay and other auction sites, and if one lurks a bit in secondhand stores one also can put one's sleazy hands on useful material. In Kingdom Hall libraries these items are frequently available, too. Or, one can have a look at Dawn Bible Students' sites and find all the Russell literature either for sale at very cheap prices, or downloable.
So 1, one needs not be in the dark as to its contents, and 2. reference is made to the basic teachings and not to his personal speculations.
