So they are "Rutherfordians" or "Early Knorrians", as what they could not stand, was the shift to the political authorities as the "higher authorities" to be paid relative respect. Being a "true witness" therefore is not a turn towards a more liberal faith, but turning time back to the good ol' days of the Judge.

Who knows the names?
by Bang incan everyone tell me the names that the wtbts calls people by?
and particularly anything that is meant to de-scribe others as condemned, such as spiritual fornicators and birdseed.

You don't say?
I was just trying to make the point, that in my whole "career" I have never used any other names than those I wrote; I don't like any other way of categorizing other people. And I don't think those words could be mistaken for being used on those "insode", as I have never had THAT many neighbours also being "inside".
One could, though, try to make a list showing what words are used to describe the Witnesses being here: jerks, idiots, retarded etc.

Possible changes forced by Dateline..?
by kikisdragon inmy best friend told me today that her cousin (l) who is a jw (although an immoral, poor excuse for a mother jw) called her to tell her that two elders stopped by her house this morning to inform her that her (recent) husband had molested an 8 year old girl in the past.
(do not know how recently) .
what i'm curious about is if this is an individual occurance, or if this is happening around the country.

OK, Gopher, but please don't use words like "demeans" and "downgrades" in connection with my thoughts. One should be allowed to ask questions or raise half-finished thoughts without being lumped together with this or that. I have never defended the Society's stand as to reporting of child abuse or other practices relating to this question, and the way you use the word "apologetics" I don't know what it is meant to signify. If it means "defending", then as I have said earlier, I defend the theology of the Society (Trinity, God/Son, soul, hell, heavne/earth etc.), but not the points of chronology, legalism or "power" (I forgot the real word, languages are tricky at times), and I do not feel uncomfortable at defending or acting as an "apologetic" in the field of theology at all, whereas I no way want to be associated with the way child abuse victims and their closest are or have been treated. That does not mean, though, in my eyes, that one should be nick-named or yelled at just for daring to ask a question. Things in life rarely are 100 % white or black; shades have been known to occur at times. Since my presence in this thread offends you, I will seek out other threads.
Greetings

I am a bit surprised, though, when you state that "No matter what the JWs try to do to get around this issue, it will not be enough." This sounds as if you have made up your mind in beforehand that there is nothing the WBTS can ever do, that will help, make things better etc. No matter what religious group we were to talk about, I would have tried to uphold the view of being capable to forgive, of compassion, of seeing that a group was trying to improve, make some steps in the direction of its critics etc. I did a lot of evil stuff in my early days, and I was happy there was a God who was there and who showed mercy and compassion and forgiveness. I do not see why we should not try to show the same towards someone, if there is a wish for change?

WHEN or IF you find some other ways, I sincerely hope I wll be one of the first other persons you will tell it to!
I constantly dream about starting as a small-scale sheep - farmer or something like that. Must be remnants of the good old hippie dreams ...... I manage to take a couple of trips averseas annually, and that takes some of the steam off. As does going to rock concerts at times. Or enjoying a joint every decade.
Stop the world, I want to get off ...............

What's the worst thing the JWs/WTS could do now?
by dustrabbit inthis isn't really a joke, but i do wonder if the jws could anything worse than they already have.
i don't think/suspect that the dubs would go off and do a mass-killing/suicide of themselves, a la jonestown or waco.
but you do have to wonder now that the pedophile and the un/wts-connection scandals have came to "light", so to speak, what else is brewing in the underbelly of the society?.

Things that have to do with children, with blood, with disfellowshipping, with shunning, with connections with the UN and the political beast - I think there cannot be any more scandals of that type to be uncovered. These things upset people, and there really are no more "things" to upset people.
I think the worst thing would be: Abandon 1914. Then the whole basis, the whole foundation, would fall apart.
Second worst? Say the flood was local, not global.
Third worst? Say evolutionary forces have been at play.

Anti-Evolutionists Wanted !!!!
by Francois inthere is an evolution question bubbling up down the threads a little way, and it minded me to try to really get to the nub of the opposition to the technique.. i would like to pose very serious questions, and i hope they attracts serious, considered responses - once and for all.. why is it impossible, in the minds of anti-evolutionists, that god did indeed create us, the earth, the sun, and everything around us including the entire physical universe, and that evolution was his technique; evolution as a divine technique?
how do you know, how are you so certain that's not the case?
how would you explain your opposition to god if he told you personally that, yep, that's the way he did it alright?.

Very nice posts! I feel so caught in the middle. Evolutionism is so very difficult for me to understand - to imagine how a cell could evolve, how a lump of living matter could somehow figure out it would be better to have an eye to look at the outside world through, how some little dog-sized thing could start standing erect, how insects and plants could in some mysterious way develop things simultaneously - things that would be useless to them alone, if it had not been for the other part involved, mimicry, millions of questions. But then again, the similarities, the extinct "ape-men", millions of questions once again. Creationists making a fool of themselves. But the again serious anti-evolution researchers, like Scherer in Germany, like Behe and Denton. Blind evolution is somehow linked to a No-God philosophy. Directed evolution is not, quite the contrary, but then again the Bible account is described to us as not giving the directed evolution story. Why should the Earth lay more or less waste for billions of years, if creation of life started only 50-60,000 years ago? But if the forefathers of Adam walked here a million or so years ago, why the Adam and all of mankind as his offspring? If there was no single Adam, then Christ's death could not have paid for the sins of those not being Adam's descendants, could it?
I'm happy it is weekend, so I can have a beer in stead of thinking any more ....... I feel the "final solution" is yet to come, and that it is neither creation as we understand it today, nor evolution as we understand it today, but somewhere in between, in the middle, that some driving force will be detected and suddenly, in the twinkling of an eye, make the pieces fit together. But that perhaps is just the dream of a battered mind.
I WISH for a creation, I WISH for there to be a creator, I WANT life to be more than 70 years and then bye-bye, I WANT eternity, but to what extent I allow my wishes to influence my thoughts on these matters, I do not know ......

Watchtower Aug 1st gives out conflicting signals
by ozziepost inheard the expression "having a bet each way"?
you know how it goes, someone doesn't want to give offense or get "offside" with readers, colleagues etc so they try and agree with two conflicting arguments simultaneously.
the watchtower wouldn't do that, would it?

We used to play soccer in the congregation, and I liked it - I played rather unorthodox, since it was all just for fun. Then one day, I took down the ball with my hands, and two sisters who definitely were in the soccer to show how well trained they were, shouted at me, "If you don't don't stop playing against the rules, you're not allowed to play any more!" OK, so I left the field, telling them loudly what I thought of their behaviour, and have never taken part since then - two years ago. Others have encouraged me to take part, and then I reply why I don't want to any more. The same two sisters told the young daughter of a co-elder of mine that she had to leave the field, since it was "dangerous to her". He ordered his two children off the field, and neither he nor his children have taken part any more, either. That was last year.
So the congregation team is shrinking. So much for a non-competitive mindset.
