That's hilarious and reminds me that I've always wanted to know where in the world that expression (shut your pie hole) comes from. What is it refering to? Something vulgar? Do you know? Anyone?
i've been reading in search of christian freedom this past few days (my hublet and i bought isocf, coc and two of carl jonsson's book--which my hubby love to read).. anyways, i've finished reading the legalism chapter and was kinda amused at the real story behind the change in baptism questions in the 80s.
i was baptized in '77 and my hubby got dunked in '89.. so, i basically can walk away from it all--and get this, i can threaten to sue the elders because i wasn't baptized into the organization.
but my hubby have to da himself because the jw is his ecclesiastical authority.

I find it interesting that both you and your husband got out of the Borg together. Especially since you have half your family in it. How did it start? Did he start questioning the society first or did you? I'm knew around here so forgive me for not knowing your story. I ask because I'm in a similar situation. Only I'm the one that doesn't have any family in the borg but my husband has all of his family except for his father. He's not listening to reason since I've been pointing out all the inconsistencies and out right lies. I know he has a lot to lose and thus one of the reasons he doesn't allow himself to acknowledge the facts. I don't know how to reach him.
I didn't see your post. Please accept my condolences. I lost my father in 1992 to Lung Cancer. It's one of the most difficult things I've had to endure in my lifetime. May you find your inner strength that will carry you through.

today, a coworker finished reading my d.a.
letter i have prepared, but not sent yet.. part of my recovery from the damaged caused from membership in the cult has been to be open and honest as to who i am, was and what i was involved in.. so i gave him the letter to read, and he gave it back today, two weeks later, and said:.
"i told my wife, if they ever come knocking at our door, tell them to leave, and if they won't, call the police".

I had no idea. Thanks for the info. Here I was just so adamant about writing my DA letter and turning it in because I wanted to be rid of it and them all and just move on with my life. But you've brought some good points home. Good grief, there really is no easy way to get out of the hell hole, is there!

And another thing. Since I'm still considered "active" when I openly explain to my co-workers what I'm going through and witness to them about NOT being a JW, can I count that as time out in field service? ;P (You know I'm just kidding).

does anyone here think there is any correlation between the abrupt departure from wt and awake subscription services and the march and april shepherding calls to the possibly millions that have gone inactive in the past few years?
the few years i spend as a dub, i don't remember any such activity directed solely inactives.
does anyone else see this as a vain attempt at the wtbts to get people back into khs for their usual dosages of guilt tripping and admonitions of loyalty to the organization?
I totally agree with you Dazed. I think that is exactly why they suddenly stopped the subscriptions. I hope it makes them squirm a bit.

A friend of mine told me she heard from an Elder who's son is in Prince's congregation that Prince had his first talk in the Theocratic Ministry School on January 17th. I'll do some investigating work and get more info.

yup so did i...they're everwhere.. "there was this one time..at band camp"....it was in a hired hall actually...where we used to organise congregation functions like farewells etc.
this usually consisted of food...non alcoholic beverages...and some entertainment...usually square dancing and some skits...and a presentation or speech.. at one function a particular elder was offended that the 'gay gordon' was one of the dances for the evening...so he promptly left...yup...at the next function it was renamed the 'happy gordon'...as his conscience wouldn't allow him to attend otherwise.
I once had a pioneer tell me that she didn't attend most gatherings because most always played The Twist and it was in black and white in an old watchtower that The Twist was not a "clean" dance. She even pulled out the watchtower for me. I remember thinking "how absurd". She brought it home by saying "I just can't see Jesus doing that, can you?" The funny thing of it all is that at the gathering in question, they didn't end up playing the twist so as not to stumble her but they did play the long version of the Macarena. hehehe.... The elders of course heard it from her later when she found out what the Macarena was about. She came around weeks later with her newspaper clipping and such explaining the song.
Stumbling business is crazy. Anyone can get offended about ANYTHING! You never know what to do around new JWs you meet, for fear of stumbling... It's always something that has made me uncomfortable... You can't really be yourself until you know that this person will not get offended or stumbled by who you are.
Shear craziness.

Thanks for the advice Xander. Moving to another congregation is a great idea, I had already thought of that but I know my husband won't go for it. To answer your questions, Yes my husband was raised in "the truth" (the lie) and his whole family except his Dad and one of his sister's is DF'd right now but on her way back. I was not raised in the truth and none of my family is in the truth thank GOD!
