  High Achieving Women

  some of you are aware of my feelings about the role of women in the christian congregation and know i chose a female priest (and someone who is now a good friend) to conduct thirdson and mrs. thirdsons wedding.

  what got me thinking was yesterdays review of the results of the "all colleague survey" with my manager when we discussed where we as department were doing well and where we needed improvement.

  my boss scored an approval rating of over 85% on nearly every topic.

  Hi Thirdson,

  You are correct in your assessment of how the society views women...out of one side of their mouth they spout how women are not inferior, husbands should love them as their own bodies...out the other side, they remind them that the man is the one "responsible" for the family and carries that heavy burden of decision making. Women are not allowed "privileges" in the congregation.

  How do I view that now? It took me awhile to see it, you see I was raised by a JW mother and a "Southern" father...so equal rights for women was not something I observed at home or the hall. Where I'm at now...I'm not a radical feminist...I'm certainly not a man hater but I have a lot of respect for myself and a healthy amount of self confidence. Therefore I have pretty rigid "boundaries" and no one crosses those...not in my family, my work, my friends. The same degree of respect I have for myself is what I try to uphold with others...and I could never go back to any organization that did not believe in the equality of women.

  p.s. After reading Path's comments I have to add...The Woman Hater Paul is a big reason I wouldn't go back to a "Christian" religion either. Just think of the type of men who are attracted to that type of teaching?

  I don't get it...is that because I'm an American?

  Seriously, I watch Absolutely Fabulous...and I don't get half the jokes. I used to watch Benny Hill...now those jokes I got but I did have a hard time understanding what they said sometimes. Why can't you people just speak English?

  wow...i am floored...it has been damn good to read some of the posts..i never thought there were so many people with the same prob's.

  been df'd for a few years and still have an elder dad and a very devout mom who constantly make me feel like i am a "stain" if not for my "worldly" wife i dont think i wud be here to make this post...

  Welcome to the board! You're right, we are better than expensive therapy . Just ask some of us...we'll even practice amateur psychology on you if you want.

  We have a couple of loony birds here, I see you've met two of them, Naebs is a sunshine frustrated Canadian...and Wallaby Jack is a sexually repressed Australian(he gets turned on by Snowmen) but has never actually "done it" with one!

  My BIG Thanksgiving Turkey

  okay, by popular demand........here is a photo of my giant turkey from thanksgiving.

  stuffed, it weighed 46 pounds, and i had to borrow a commercial sized pan, to put it in.

  as you can see, it literally fills my oven, is on the bottom rack (had to take one out) and nearly touches the roof of the oven.
