You Knew The Score!
by Englishman inmany years after i was df'd, i found myself at the end of a shunning campaign led by a robotic jw neighbour.. the neighbour had moved in next door to me.
he'd even borrowed some tools of mine before he discovered that i was an ex.
at this point he began a serious "i'm ignoring you" strategy which i found utterly hilarious as he was the one who had chosen to move in next door to me.

I was 15 when I was baptized, after having been raised as a JW. All of my extended family were JW's. Did I KNOW I would be shunned to hell and back again if I were ever df'd? Yes. Did I really understand what I was doing? Of course not.
Did my parents allow me to date at the tender age of 15? No, they didn't consider me mature enough. Would they have let me marry at that age? Same answer. I couldn't even drive a car by myself, nor did I have a job...but I could "dedicate MY LIFE to Jehovah." Something does not compute.
I too am glad for the shunning actually. It made me open my eyes to all the lies and dysfunction of that religion. Otherwise, I too may have clung to it for years. I'm glad for my freedom.

(As promised) BETHEL TRIP part 7. Loosing my balance
by seven006 inas i was trying to settle into my new life i constantly plagued myself with questions about where i had been and a bigger question, where i was going.
in the mid eighties there wasn't easy access to any exjw's to ask questions and help me through a very difficult transition in my life.
today the internet offers a lot of support through a large collection of exjw's from all over the world who offer many various options based on their own personal experience on where to go once you are out of the cult.

Dave, you old fossil
As always, I enjoy your story telling style. Lots of pain and real feelings and struggles in your life....must be where all that gray hair comes from?
One thing I can really relate to in your story...nothing would ever make me regret having my kids. Much as I'd like to go back and re-live my life with the knowledge I have now...I can't figure out a way to do that and still end up with my kids as they are now. So maybe it's a good thing ol' Doc and Marty Mcfly aren't around with their time machine.
I look forward to your next installment.

The Red Tent
by GinnyTosken inlong before i started on the mental road toward xjwism, soft-voiced misgivings whispered to me as i read bible stories.
why did jehovah like abel's offering better than cain's?
wasn't it cruel of abraham to banish hagar and ishmael?

Hi Ginny
Just popping into your thread to say HI to you.
As far as the book you mentioned, it does sound interesting. If I'd come across it 4 years ago, I might have read it. These days...I just don't have much interest in anything biblically related. I guess it just doesn't get me going anymore. There were so many bible stories that didn't make sense to me when I was younger...it would have been interesting to put a different twist on things when we were still dubs, eh?
Good to see you.

Cultlike behavior in... geez, who'da thunk it?
by COMF infound this interesting list on a website devoted to recovery from substance abuse.
they're talking here about alcoholics anonymous.
not the organization as a whole, but individual groups where someone emerges with a narrow view of what constitutes "true recovery" and... well... just read the list.. cult watch .

Thanks for sharing this Comf,
I've seen some of this same behavior myself in support groups, and Doug and I have had "spirited debates" with other members about it. Their denial is every bit as severe as the JW's. Granted, not all support groups are this way...but there seems to be a human tendency to form this kind of thinking in a gorup that's out to "save" you.

Thinking about moving to Cincinnati...
by DanTheMan inmy employers' intranet website recently posted for a position located in cincinnati (which is about a 2 hour drive from columbus, where i live).. the requirements/skills listed on the posting seemed right up my alley, so i submitted my app online.
today i get an email from the hr lady asking me when i can interview.. i'm so nervous about this!
i've never lived far from home, and i'm very close with my family, to be honest they're all i've got, i don't have friends or a social circle to speak of.

Dave, she's gorgeous! Makes ME want a granddaughter of my own!
Well, my oldest son is only 18, and just married, so it will probably be a few years. Sigh. This is the ONLY thing about getting older that I'm looking forward to. And my parents will probably miss out on their great grandchildren also, but that's their loss. The kids will be better off not meeting the dysfunctional whackos anyway. Keep posting pics Dave, we enjoy them!
