Hi Just2,

Thanks for asking about us, and telling us about yourself. I was raised a witness, married one, had 2 children plus inherited 2 from his previous marriage. Was a good little dub, raising my kids in it, hubby an elder, all my extended family were too. In the past 5 years, things started to go very wrong in my life. I kept waiting for Jah to bless all my efforts, and it just wasn't happening. Then a lot of things happened in the space of a year, and I began to realize that God wasn't going to help me, I was going to have to do it myself.

So I divorced hubby, lots of reasons, quit going to meetings, met another lifelong JW who was coming out of a bad marriage, we hit it off....and the rest, as they say, is history! We've been together almost 2 years now, DF'd that long, and we and our kids are doing great:>

38 years young:)
Hobbies: Sailing,crocheting,movies,computer,travel
Favorite place, so far:Las Vegas!! Hubby took me there for our honeymoon, and I had a BLAST! Love those slot machines.

Interesting post. I have wondered about some of those things from the male perspective.

I was married to my first husband for 15 years. I can honestly say I was not sexually attracted to anyone else during that time. Did I meet some fascinating and stimulating men in that time? Yes, but I do not confuse those emotions with sexual stimulation.

I have been with my second husband for 2 years now. The thought of him looking at another woman with lust in his heart is hurtful to me. I believe he feels the same way. We have such a deep commitment to each other, I truly cannot imagine being with another. But as far as each of us having our personal space and time, we both avidly respect that, and would never infringe on the other's "space".

Don't get me wrong, I am not being judgemental about your perspective. I think if you find partners who share the same outlook, why couldn't it work? Not all women are looking for a permanent partner, either. Some of my women friends even have a term for it: all they want is a f*** buddy, someone safe to be with when they feel the need. No strings attached, two consenting adults. I personally do not think I could get what I need out of a relationship like that, but I don't think there's anything wrong with it.

I also would be curious to see if that kind of relationship really works for people, from a male perspective. So please keep us posted.

I was touched by your story of finding Justin, of your current struggles with MS. But that is when our true character is exposed, when we are down in the dirt and struggling...and sweetie...your character is shining as bright as a diamond!

I hope you are serious about pursuing writing, because you truly have a way with words. You and Ginny Tosken are two of the wittiest women I have ever read. And to the other women who already posted responses to you here: Now THIS is what I call a sisterhood:> You ladies are incredible...strong, intelligent, supportive, compassionate, fierce...I would be proud to call all of you my friends!

I agree, LW: Women Should Know Their Proper Place!

like lonewolf, i am much dismayed at the haughty nature of many women on this site.

what is this world coming to, when women dont know their correct position in subjection to men?.

thankfully, gods channel of communication to mankind (tm, patent pending) have always been aware of the matter and addresses the respective positions of men and women.

What a hoot! It is sad that so many really believe that stuff. I never bought into it to that degree, but being raised a dub, I thought I knew what the woman's "proper position" was.

Then I escaped, and I learned there are a lot more "fun positions for women". And men. And men with women....ok, I think you get the idea:>

To some who have posted reminders to us that we once used to be JW's so should remember and feel compassion: I agree, I think most here do also.

But never forget that laughing at something that used to control you, or inspire fear in you, is a healthy way to overcome the power it used to have over you.

Remember when you were a child, and had a nightmare? Maybe it was a big lizard that stomped on cities and ate people! It terrified you, right? Now that you are an adult, you laugh at the "idea" of the big lizard, because it has no power over you now. Does that mean that if your child came to you crying over their own nightmare, that you would laugh at them? ABSOLUTELY NOT. The same is true with us and our memories of the WTBTS.

If a JW or exJW came to me with fears or concerns, I would lovingly listen and offer kind suggestions, never would I laugh at their fears!
Remember, we all used to have those fears, too. But that doesn't mean that now, in our "recovery", that we cannot laugh at the "idea of a giant lizard", or giant organization! It is what keeps us sane and healthy.:>

Hey Big Jim,

Like your post. Reading Thomas Paine's "Age of Reason" was the biggest aid to me in my recovery from being indoctrinated in the borg. The man had a very logical mind, and I was unable to refute anything he said about the bible. When you stop and think about some of the bible stories we read our little children...it's a wonder they don't all have emotional problems:)

I can relate to so much of what you're saying. I know that I lost my childhood, but I am just SO thankful that I woke up and found my freedom in time for it to benefit my kids. After denying them a normal life, I began to leave the borg when they were 11 and 13. First thing I did was sign my 11 year old son up for Little League Baseball. I went with trepidation to the first practice, looking around to see if there was anyone I knew, a little uncomfortable in this "new" social situation.

I had the best time at those games! Perfect summer evenings, little kids running around just having fun. "Worldly" adults freely giving of their time and energies to help the next generation learn some lessons and have fun. And my son just blossomed from having this freedom:) That was the true beginning of my eyes coming fully open. To realize that this pleasant and harmless thing was denied FOR NO GOOD REASON!

So while it IS a painful process, I am gladly making that sacrifice now so that my kids won't ever have to! I'm sure you feel the same way.

And Zev.....my heart goes out to you buddy:) It takes an incredible amount of strength to do what you're doing. We all make the move when we're ready for it. Only you know your circumstances. Just one word of advice, if I may? Whenever you have something painful to do, you have 2 choices, have the pain now and begin to move on and recover, or endure the situation longer and STILL have the pain, only later. If you're trying to go quietly into that night, then you have my best wishes, and I hope it works:)

Is Singleness a Blessing? Sometimes

this post is rather personal, but it may help those who lurk, so if you will all please bear with me?.

not long ago, i visited the town where i grew up, got baptized and married, gave birth to both my daughters.

its a smallish town and among the witness population, everyone knows everyone.

Sharing your story is an inspiration. Most of us can relate to what you're saying to our feelings about leaving the borg and/or all our family and friends, in essence, our support group.

I also left a spouse after many years with 2 children to support. He was not abusive, just neglectful and terribly needy. I got to the point where I had nothing left to give him, and if there was going to be anything of "me" left over, I had to get out. And with that one scary decision, yes, a whole world of possibilities opened up. I enjoyed my time alone, my independence. And even though I am now with a wonderful man, part of what makes us so good together is that we don't "need" each other to survive. We choose to enjoy life together.
The borg taught me to be codependant, and then I married someone who reinforced that. Now I will never go back to that again, not with any organisation, not with any man.
