"washington, dccalling the theological giant's stranglehold on the religion industry "blatantly anti-competitive," a u.s. district judge ruled monday that god is in violation of anti-monopoly laws and ordered him to be broken up into several less powerful deities.. .
"the evidence introduced in this trial has convinced me that the deity known as god has willfully and actively thwarted competition from other deities and demigods, promoting his worship with such unfair scare tactics as threatening non-believers with eternal damnation," wrote district judge charles elliot schofield in his decision.
"in the process, he has carved out for himself an illegal monotheopoly."".
Hehehehe thanks for sharing that Jan
That was funny, a great little "play" on the Microsoft debacle, very witty.

did you hear about the guy from alabama who passed away and left his.
entire estate to his beloved widow -- but she can't touch it 'til she's 14?
how do you know when you're staying in a kentucky hotel?
LOL Waiting,
Those were funny additions. We do have funny names here. I admit it...I have an aunt named Erline!
April, what part of S Carolina are you in? I have some family near Liberty. Also, I will email you a pic of both my boys, Dominic and Nicholas. Hey, I had to have something that went well with an Italian last name!

it was opening night at the orpheum, and the amazing claude was topping the bill.
people came from miles around to see the famed hypnotist do his stuff.. as claude took to the stage, he announced, unlike most stage hypnotists who invite two or three people up onto the stage to be put into a trance, i intend to hypnotise each and every member of this audience.. the excitement was almost electric as claude withdrew a beautiful antique pocket watch from his coat.. i want you each to keep your eye on this antique watch.
special watch.

These are too funny. I've heard a lot of southern jokes, but these were new to me. Thanks for sharing!
P.S. I saw on another thread that you have a son named Dominic...me too and you spelled it correctly! I think it's a cool name, not too common but unique enough. My Dominic is gorgeous...I'll bet yours is too

my daughter was born at 9:05am tuesday morning.
she's a skinny little thing, 7 pounds 5 ounces, with a shock of black hair, her father's chin, her mother's eyes, and a fetish for sucking on fingertips that neither of us recognize in ourselves.
i'll post pictures when i have them up somewhere ... meanwhile, foxy and i are trying to catch as much sleep as possible, which is precious little sleep at all.

What a momentous day! Yes, your life is changed forever. I am so happy for you.

i wish to present three situations that are true to life and open up a discussion on these different scenarios and how would would personally act toward them.. 1) a 75 year old person has been a jw for the past 40 years.
most of their friends are jws.
they look forward to the fellowship at the meetings and though the congregation is far from perfect, they are pleased with the fact that they have a purpose in life.
Interesting discussion. I have enjoyed all responses thus far.
Herbert This is your first post? Very well put. You could be Hillary Step's alter ego.

Ahhh Hillary,
Difficult questions...I have faced similar questions with my own family members, specifically my mother. In a way, except for the age, she fits the description of the lady in scenario #1. In this instance, I have chosen not to try to inform her of the failings of her religion. I feel I do not have the right to destroy her belief system which she feels validates her existence.
Perhaps I would feel differently if there were any chance of she and I repairing our damaged relationship. The child abuse issue, raising its' ugly head in our own family, has driven a wedge between us that is as large as an ocean. She has lost her daughters and her grandchildren...yes, through choices she has made...so really her faith is all that's left to her. By the way, I feel that should apply to any individuals faith...I do not feel I have the right to interfere.
If however, subjects come up in our very limited conversations, I do not back down. I tell her how I view things now, and she can do what she wants with that info. Remember, I am only speaking of one instance...my own personal relationship with my mother. Give me a new set of circumstances, especially if I thought something I said could protect someone from harm, and I might feel differently.
Ok, I will let someone else comment on the other scenarios.

so that's florida for you then.. .
inglis mayor carolyn risher said september 11 terror attacks inspired her to compose a proclamation banning satan from her town.
inglis, florida (cnn) -- if he's thinking of visiting florida's west coast, satan might want to steer clear of inglis.. the mayor of this small fishing village in florida has declared the prince of darkness persona non grata -- in essence, telling him to go to the devil.. "satan, ruler of darkness, giver of evil, destroyer of what is good and just, is not now, nor ever again will be, a part of this town of inglis," mayor carolyn risher says in a proclamation, which was issued on official town stationery.. risher said the events of september 11 inspired her to pursue the proclamation, which the town commission supports.. "it gave me the inspiration that these people need to be ready if something like this was to happen to the town of inglis.
LOLOL@Gopher
Hey, I live on the west coast of Florida, and I've never even heard of this town. Why do I get the feeling it's one of those little hick towns, where there are 3,000 people and only 2 last names? [8>]
What's even more embarassing is the fact that the mayor is a woman!
Now I'm embarassed to be a Floridian, an American...and a woman. She disgraces us all!

since i've been here, from around july, 2001, i haven't really shared any personal experiences of why i left the society, except for the story about my sister who committed suicide.
this is kind of long, so i will tell it in parts.
if this is god's organization, i will gladly be a devil worshiper.. here goes....... when i was about 27 years old, (around 1984) after my divorce, i'd moved from laurens, south carolina back to andrews, sc, and rented the house beside my grandmother.
April, Andi and Dazed! I am amazed by your strength and courage, posting such painful experiences from your life...and yet we can all see how much you have grown.
My heart just hurts for the pain you have suffered...for the lack of compassion when you needed it most. I hope you have progressed to the point in your lives where you now have true love from those around you...people who will not let you down when you need them most. Cyber hugs just don't seem expressive enough. I admire all of you, you have set an example for those unchristian witnesses, whether they know it or not.
