Bridgette Jones' Diary - review

i luuuuuvvvvved it!.

rented it the other night, wasn't feeling good, drank some wine - and laughed, and laughed, and laughed, and laughed.. lord, that poor girl lived through some of the same things common to all - particularily women, however.. i had no idea how good it was or i would have seen it sooner!.

It is a good movie. You should read the two books they are really, really funny. I obtained a copy of the British book from my parents before it was published in the US. I took it to read while I waited in line for 3 hours at the INS (just to get a stamp in my passport).

Anyway, there were some points I had to stop reading because I could hardly hold back the roaring laughter!

Since then the book has been published in the US and translated for a US readership. (weights are converted to pounds from stones as an example...I not sure how "getting savaged by Jeremy Paxman" can be translated or whether the context helps.)

I obtained the follow up book last year in London just to get a British edition. Using Colin Firth to play Mark D'arcy presents some problems when it comes to making the film sequel though.

You can imagine, Mary gives birth to Jesus, she's been told by an angel no less that she's going to have a boy, she's told all her relatives, told Joseph, bought all blue stuff. Jesus the baby girl is born and Mary looks at her baby and says, "It's a boy!...It's a miracle, a boy without a winkle!"

So there you have it, the real story of Jesus.

Some time ago I heard there was a book being published about murder and cover-up within the JW relgion. Does anyone know if this book has been published? Is it still called "Wolves among Sheep"? And importantly, can I buy it on-line?

I have tried BarnesandNoble.com and also Amazon.com but neither site has a reference for the book. Can anyone help?

Interfaith at the Kingdom Hall

some of you know me now and i just thought you might like to know how i got to know jehovahs witnesses and whats an sda bloke doing on a jw board.

well it all started in the mid 80s when i got to be friends with a jw bloke who was working bricklaying for my dad invited me to the memorial.

i said i would go but i felt i would be happier going with someone else that i knew better to go with me there as i didnt quite know what to expect there.

will a disfellowshipped person who dies prior to the great tribulation be resurrected?

According to current WTS teachings (I think) God's promise of new life is now granted to deceased DF'd persons since the moving back of Jesus' judging of the nations and dead DF'd persons can expect to be retained in God's RAM (Fred's comment). Hopefully, God didn't delete dead DF persons prior to his release of new light a few years back.

While for God it is easy to resurrect the dead it still is exceedingly difficult for JWs to bury the dead. Even though death aquits someone of sin a funeral for the dead DF'd cannot be held in a KH and the dead one's family may have difficulty getting local JW clergy to participate in the funeral at all.

Of course it is. But it has to be a 2-way thing. JWs love it when people of other faiths worship with them. However, they don't reciprocate. Many won't even go to family weddings that are held in churches.

The Watchtower is dead against interfaith. They fear that members will see that nice people who do good works attend other churches. (My opinion anyway because I see nice people do good works in many different churches.)

• Why have Jehovah's Witnesses disfellowshipped (excommunicated) for apostasy some who still profess belief in God, the Bible, and Jesus Christ?
Those who voice such an objection point out that many religious organizations claiming to be Christian allow dissident views...
However, such examples provide no grounds for our doing the same. Why not? Many of such denominations allow widely divergent views among the clergy and the laity because they feel they cannot be certain as to just what is Bible truth...
Moreover, to the extent that religionists believe in interfaith, they are obligated not to take divergent beliefs too seriously...
Obviously, a basis for approved fellowship with Jehovah's Witnesses cannot rest merely on a belief in God, in the Bible, in Jesus Christ, and so forth. The Roman Catholic pope, as well as the Anglican Archbishop of Canterbury, professes such beliefs, yet their church memberships are exclusive of each other. Likewise, simply professing to have such beliefs would not authorize one to be known as one of Jehovah's Witnesses.
Approved association with Jehovah's Witnesses requires accepting the entire range of the true teachings of the Bible, including those Scriptural beliefs that are unique to Jehovah's Witnesses. What do such beliefs include?
That the great issue before humankind is the rightfulness of Jehovah's sovereignty, which is why he has allowed wickedness so long. (Ezekiel 25:17) That Jesus Christ had a prehuman existence and is subordinate to his heavenly Father. (John 14:28) That there is a "faithful and discreet slave" upon earth today 'entrusted with all of Jesus' earthly interests,' which slave is associated with the Governing Body of Jehovah's Witnesses. (Matthew 24:45-47) That 1914 marked the end of the Gentile Times and the establishment of the Kingdom of God in the heavens, as well as the time for Christ's foretold presence. (Luke 21:7-24; Revelation 11:15-12:10) That only 144,000 Christians will receive the heavenly reward. (Revelation 14:1, 3) That Armageddon, referring to the battle of the great day of God the Almighty, is near. (Revelation 16:14, 16; 19:11-21) That it will be followed by Christ's Millennial Reign, which will restore an earth-wide paradise. That the first to enjoy it will be the present "great crowd" of Jesus' "other sheep."...
...the apostle John termed as antichrists those who did not believe that Jesus had come in the flesh. They may well have believed in God, in the Hebrew Scriptures, in Jesus as God's Son, and so on.
Following such Scriptural patterns, if a Christian (who claims belief in God, the Bible, and Jesus) unrepentantly promotes false teachings, it may be necessary for him to be expelled from the congregation. (See Titus 3:10, 11.) Watchtower 4/1/86 Page 30-31 (selected quotes)

Not much chance of interfaith with words like that. Attend another church and worship and a JW could be disfellowshipped for being an anti-Christ.

Interfaith has done a huge amount of good. Christians of various denominations along with Jews (and Muslins now) come together in inter-denominational meetings frequently not far from where I live. Does everyone argue or change their beliefs? No. Do people come to a better understanding an appreciation of other faiths? Yes.
Will we see JWs at these meetings soon? I guess not.

during the baptism talk in a recent assembly the co delivering the talk apparently made this statement:.

'you have often been warned about bad association outside the congregation - we want to warn you about bad association within the congregation.

some might approach you with misinformation about jw's they have picked up from enemies of the truth and try to confuse you do not listen to them talk to your elders about them.'.

This is not that unusual but it is getting worse and the paranoia is increasing. At one CA in the UK (at the Dudley Assembly Hall), circa 1994 I guess, the CO mentioned bad associates in the circuit and KH during his concluding talk.

Apparently, there were literally hundreds of young JW from all over the area traveling to rave parties and staying out late. He said he "if that is what they want to do they have no place in the Organization and should get out, we don't want you!" (Loud applause)

I take it not only is the WTS having to contend with rave party-going JWs these JWs are reading the Internet and telling all too.

A train derails and crashes into the headlines. Or perhaps a factory explosion covers the front page. On such occasions or when flood, fire, earthquake or windstorm make many homeless and rob others of life or limb, as surely as the press is there to report it, so will other familiar figures turn up. The community chest will be there, the Red Cross with its blood bank will be there, priests fully outfitted with pious face and last rites will be there and politicians will rush back from a Florida vacation so that they can be there-all to offer charitable help.

But let the disaster be on a smaller scale where the returns in publicity are not so promising; then the widely acclaimed charitable organizations do not flock to the scene. It is clear that they choose the publicized tragedies, that their giving may be publicized along with the event. The motive of attention and credit perches plainly on their every "good deed"...

...Today Christians carry on the most charitable work of all history. Their preaching of 'this good news of the Kingdom in all the inhabited earth for a witness' brings spiritual healing to new praisers of God.-Matt. 24:14,
