how often do you still dream about being a jw?.
i occasionally stii have dreams about being a jw.
they often involve meetings or assemblies.
I have dreams about JWs or rather nightmares. Sometimes I dream I am being confronted by elders I knew years ago when I lived in England (I had less contact with JWs in the USA and I have been out for 5 years).
They question me on celebrating Christmas and attending church services. The thing is my parents know this and I guess so do many of the JWs I used to know so what am I hiding? The one elder who is always in my dreams is someone I have known ever since I can remember. I have always liked him; perhaps subconsciously I think I have let him down.
My other recurring dream I have is being inappropriately dressed or naked in public. (I always sleep naked) I used to have this dream the nights before I gave a public talk. In those dreams I would invariably find my myself giving my talk in just my briefs. I had that dream a week before my wedding in a slightly different context and again recently just before a presentation I had to give to the CEO.
I shared my recurring dream problems with a friend at work and she delighted in telling everyone else to much amusement. Now everyone knows my fear but it still doesn't help me.

he asked me on friday night.
wow.
he's the man of my dreams, and i'm so happy i was able to meet him.
Congratulations! Wow that is wonderful news. A new home, a new job, and a husband to be, what a wonderful future.
Best wishes to you both. I hope we get to meet if you do relocate.

sir cliff richard is one of the singers universally loved by the 40+ generation (certainly here in the uk) ... that is unless that 40+er is one of jehovahs witnesses.. doubtless there are some jws who do enjoy cliffs music, but i have always been surprised by the widespread dislike of him within the jw community.. this is in stark contrast to the widespread love for his former band - the shadows - the presence of one of their cds being a feature in a very high percentage of british jw homes.. reason quoted to me.
when i first came into the truthtm in the early 80s, it was explained to me that cliff had connections with jws (if i remember right - his mother and sister were baptised).. cliff had shown an interest in the truthtm, had a bible study with hank and had been to many meetings.
he had allegedly been spotted at one of our districts conventions at twickenham, walking around in a bright pink suit.
I was told (in the 70's) that Cliff had a problem with a religion with a faceless leadership. I don't know what was meant by that I guess it implied he didn't like the low-key approach of the GB. I think it is more like he didn't like the almighty, don't ever question us attitude of the Watchtower Society...if what was supposedly said is true.
Come to think of it, I had the same problem.

P.S. What about Hank (a real guitar hero to many guitar heroes)? In the 80's I saw him play at a New Years celebration on TV. I thought he was a JW! Of course seeing-in the New Year with a few drinks while watching the revelry on TV was OK as a JW, 'cause no one saw me.
come on boys, tell me what is your fascination with clevage?
do you dream of big breasts?
does the cup size really matter?
Well, here's an old joke and part answer.
Q. What do breasts and train-sets have in common?
A. Both are designed for children but it's men who like to play with them.

it is intersting that the bible does not speak specificly about things like smoking, blood tranfusions, etc, which the watchtower will expell its own members over.. yet the bible does speak specificly about over eatingit even goes on to say that such people will not inherit the kingdom.
yet from my experience in the organisation many witnesses would over-eat(few pleasures left when you got your head in a book all the time) and many were clearly overweight and suffering for it!.
this led to all sorts of health problems for them from back trouble to heart disease, yet i never heard of any being dissfellowshiped on the grounds of gluttony/overeating!!.
I have never known anyone get disfellowshipped for over eating. For that matter I never knew anyone get DF'd for being drunk either. I have seen lots of JWs drink too much including elders.
One elder got so drunk at a wedding he puked his false teeth down the toilet and flushed them away. He later (when sober) called a brother in the congregation who worked for the city to ask if there was anyway he could get his teeth back...I joke not. But I digress. I have, on the other hand, known several alcoholic JWs get DF'd. It seems totally unChristian to DF and shun people who need professional help with their substance dependancies. DFing them is merely sweeping the problem under the carpet. Is that what good shepherds as supposed to do? (Please excuse mixed metaphor)

i was in the org.
for 35 years, and it never once occurred to me why we never taught our children the lord's pray.. our father who art in heaven hollow be thy name..... anybody have any reason for our ignoring the most perfect prayer offered up by god's son.. my fiance' ask me this tonight i can't explain it except that it would have turned into a repetitive expression like all our prayers were anyway... hell is truth seen too late.
h.g.adams
A couple of thoughts. Mainly the reason for not praying the Lord's prayer as a liturgical piece is the JW fear of praying repetitive prayers. However, there aren't many variations to the public prayers of JWs and even mentioning bits from a rehashed Watchtower article just studied hardly adds anything new to a prayer. Since the basic JW prayer follows a set formula it sort of nullifies the argument. Most churches use the Lord's prayer in addition to other prayers said in a service anyway.
For me growing up as a JW I would never have learned the Lord's prayer as normally used, derived from the KJV, if not for one thing...my English state school education! When I was between the ages of 5 and 7 I went in to daily school assembly. (Only later would I have to stay out) Each day the assembly included a couple of hymns and the Lord's prayer. I learned the prayer and never forgot it. I too used the Prayer as common ground in field service.
At least when I first attended non-JW church services, saying the Lord's prayer was not difficult and I didn't sputter the NWT version.

i know that the flood has been discussed ad-nauseum on this site, but i only just got a copy of the march 1, 2002 wt and figured i'd put my .
2cents worth in.
besides that with this posting i become a senior member so i thought i'd say something semi-intelligent for a change.. the wt with it's ever circular reasoning concludes that because so many societies have a flood myth, and because they all have many points in common, that this corroborates the bibles ancient testimony.. on page 4 of this wt, there is a chart denoting the similarities of many of these myths.
There are two stories of the flood in the Bible. This is the link to the two accounts as presented in the New World translation.

what i am talking about a movie that you thought was great, but is mostly forgotten by most people today.. well, my favorite overlooked movie is "a perfect world.
" in it kevin costner is an escaped felon who escapes from prison with another felon.
they then break into a house and kidnap a boy who is a (gasp!
I'll add mine without reading the others and see who I agree with.
October Sky (Boy without hope of football scholarship does good with rockets in mining town...based on true story.)
The Iron Giant (Fear and distrust in the cold war, animated movie)
Oh Brother Where art thou (Major Grammy hit though)
Pleasantville (Black and white 50s ideal society meets the color of the real world)
The Wonder Boys (Supporting role for Robert Downey Jr who manages to stay out of jail for the entire production)
Remember the Titans (Not bad for a movie I watched flying over the Atlantic)
Galipolli (Wonderful Aussie movie and early Mel Gibson role..sad ending too)
Actually, I like a good many well made and well acted Aussie movies that you only ever see on cable channels like Bravo. Many Aussie movies have sad endings, I guess Aussie men know how to cry.

i few days ago i stated a post asking people what movie they considered underrated.
well, now i am going to the other side of the spectrum.
what do you think is the most overrated movie?.
American Beauty.
I hated it. My wife liked it though. I wanted to see "The Cider House Rules" but she thought it might be too sad. I normally like sad movies (sad songs too) despite my cheerful and happy nature.
