Wed,
I was saddened to learn of Alistair Cooke's death earlier this year. Having grown up on the other side of the "pond" I knew him for many years through his "letters." Amazon is a great resource as is us.imdb.com (Internet Movie Database) which is great for searching for old films and TV programs. The links are to Amazon but don't forget to search the Canadian version www.amazon.ca for titles that are rare and sometimes cheaper.

from my observation of walking away from the org eight years ago..it seems..that most xjw's are either fundamental protestants...or on left side as athiests.....so, i was wondering, any xjws here who's christianity is now progressive (non-fundamentalists) in nature?
Apparently, after taking a test, I should be a Liberal Quaker.
I attend services with a non-fundy Christian church mostly and I haven't joined the "Friends" yet.

if you're a dunderhead on neo-babylonian history (like me) you've probably remained totally clueless whenever the subject of the chronology leading to back 607 b.c.
since i had nothing better to do today, i decided to finally take the time it takes to understand why dub chronology on that date is wrong.
this piece of information alone should give you a clue about how bored i am!.
I wanted to post on this thread but it seems to have gotten hijacked by those who miss the point (or can't read plain English) and want to argue their own cause or that of their cult master. I thought Farkel's term for our one poster friend was "Bible twit!" He must be getting mellow after all this time.

Wednesday,
There is a specific BBC America channel available in many areas on digital cable. Otherwise, PBS still shows some drama and comedy. A&E also shows some drama and occasional BBC comedy. I watched a BBC production of Charles II a few months back and the series MI5 (Spooks, I think in the UK) on A&E. TLC and the Discovery channel show some programs co-produced with the BBC or the UK's channel 4. Junkyard Wars and Trading Spaces were originally UK programs but the ones you see here are produced in the US. Look-out for some cross-overs.
I hear that UK's Graham Norton has a show on Comedy Central, I haven't seen his show yet and if I don't hurry up it may be axed before I do.

i haven't read all the posts in this forum yet.
so, i apologize if this was covered before.
i found a statement written by "god's channel of communication" in the "you can live forever in paradise on earth" book, c.1982, page 154, par.
The Live Forever book was the main teaching aid for studying the Bible. O.K., I know reading the questions in the book isn't really studying the Bible, but, this text book states "The Bible says," when actually the Bible says no such thing. Now JWs and the WTS would agree that the Bible doesn't teach that. I wonder what JWs would say as to whether the Live Forever book is really an acurate study of the Bible? Then question if any of their current books are accurate!
Don't forget the WTS, at least in the Awake, stated that "the Creator promised" things about 1914 only to have to retract the promise since the Creator never, ever, ever, promised such a thing.

note: i was lazy and did not spell check this because it's getting late and i'm tired......
gawd... i forgot just how mind numbing those things are.
you all owe me!!!
Else,
Great day out hey? Thanks for this, good post.
I have a question; nothing new, but I only just noticed. Why does the program (and the WTS) refer to the convention goers as 'delegates?'
To be a delegate implies being delegated to go somewhere as a representative. Most conventions that have delegates are this way with a selected group of attendees chosen to represent a larger body of people. Afterall, not all local Democratic or Republican party members attend their respective party conventions, they send delegates. So why does the WTS use this word when congregations are expected to attend en-mass? Am I missing something or is this a hold-over from another era?

mt sister recently asked me to go on a cruise but to get to the ship ( not sure which one yet ) we have to take a plane to get there.
no i am not really scared of the plane crashing ( well sorta ) but i have a fear of heights, who has this fear ?
i have never flown and the thought is making me sick.
I don't generally have a fear of heights but I don't like climbling very tall ladders. (I have made a number of free fall parachute jumps but ladders are far more scary.) However, I have never found flying to generate the same fears. Even in very small planes I have found there is a sense of enclosure and unreality. If you are not uncomfortable looking out windows of tall buildings flying won't scare you. Otherwise, as others have suggested, don't look out the windows.
Thirdson
PS I hate flying. The thrill was lost after I started consulting and flew regularly. It's just tedious.
i talked to my mom on the phone the other day she is a jw, she knows full well what i think of the jw garbage, and i have tried to make her see it, but it's not use, so i don't go on about it much, aside from the occasional comment to see what the reaction will, in good humour of course... anyway, the other day i was struggling to think of topics we could talk about (typical son/mother relationship) so in my usual amused way i asked what she thought about the new view the society had on blood parts... i was expecting something but i didn't know what.... anyway, my mom calmly as if nothing was amiss, told me that it hasn't changed really, and that 'it doesn't matter anyway, because blood was always a conscience matter' now i love my mom, but this blew me away, i know of, and she knows people who have died because of blood, and she would still probably do it, but more to the point, haven't people been df'd for having blood transfusions?
good grief, if blood is a conscience matter and always was, why the hell so many people die and whose conscience lets their kid die?.
pffffffffff
DH,
That is exactly what my mom said when I asked her about the changes in the Watchtower in June 2000. I reminded her that the elder's secret manual lists accepting a blood transfusion as a DF'ing offense. So much for a conscience matter.

hey all,.
yesterday while mountain biking i came down a trail way too fast, slid, slipt and slided of a cliff and flew like a winged monkey from the wizard of oz into a patch of poison oak.
both my forearms are covered from wrist to elbow with the stuff.
I got a case of something similar a couple of years ago. I tried all the common suggestions but after 4 days both my forearms were so bad I went to the doctor. I had a 16 day diminishing course of steroids and it cleared up very quickly. I had a similar reaction again this year but to a lesser degree and I treated it with calomine lotion. I always wear gloves when gardening and (now learned a lesson) long sleeves if I'm bagging piles of weeds.
