I have two older brothers. So I am not the oldest but neither am I the youngest as I have two younger brothers. I guess I suffer from middle-child syndrome.

ok, this has probably been done before and i missed it, but i want to know what your member names mean.
is there a special story behind your online handle?
mine is pretty self evident.

i was reading cnn today and the part about his friends rallying at his place included this portion: .
"backerman said the celebrities include musician mc hammer, tennis star serena williams and "american idol" host ryan seacrest, as well as latoya jackson and other members of michael jackson's family.
i know that serena isn't really a jw and that she gets away with loads no jw young person could do (playing professional sport, draping the us flag, etc) but she can add associating with df'd and da'd now as well.

It's also another scandal JWs can be associated with even if MJ isn't a JW and even if he is innocent.

boy did i hate them!
i was an art department manager for two years with a small printing company in southern calif. we would have planning meetings, production meetings, payroll meetings etc.
i would try to get through these meetings as fast as i could so i could go back to my department and get my staff working!
Maverick,
I hated the meetings with the CO as an MS and they were even worse when it was elders and the CO. The PO was such a brown-noser when the CO was there and a dominating autocrat the rest if the time. Seeing what elders were like and how they run things was a big eye-opener for me -- a raised in the troof dub. I didn't last as an elder very long.
I remember that at nearly every meeting I attended I had to defend some congregation member or another against the pet peeves and prejudices of particular elders. I joined an elder body in conflict with the bodies of two of the three congs that shared the hall with us. Mainly the POs fault who had a personal beef with elders he had served with before, but he managed to sour the whole elder body. It was a disgrace, after another elder and I resigned the PO was forced to give up his top spot in the elder body. The CO moved his son-in-law to top job so I doubt things improved that much. I moved away that very week.

obviously, mine is a picture of me.....it was taken at a hockey game at staples center: go kings!
.
odrade has a very pretty picture and i was wondering if that was her or a character from a movie?
Mine's pretty obvious, a vanity license plate I faked. I don't really have that plate on my car and in fact I don't have the standard Minnesota plate either as I opted for the Critical Habitat plate with the loon instead. After all of this you may think I am a fake too. So please ask Brummie if I am for real, although, to be honest, he may claim he met a guy for real who only claimed to be Thirdson.

Back in Minnesota, really!!!
i know this is not jw related (although, "if you would like to remain standing while we read a few announcements" will be familiar to many who had to stand up while greetings were read from unknown people)...but anyway i'd like to send my greetings.
i won't have much chance to read many threads or likely respond to this one until i return.
for my sins i am visiting tokyo this week.
Hi all,
I must have missed the worst of rush-hour on Monday but the subway ride today was quite an experience. I didn't think I was going to find any room on the train because of the mass of people in front of me. However, the force of the flow pushed me on and at least another 10 people followed behind. I had nothing to hold on to but the shear mass of bodies meant I was not going to fall over either. Although you feel its crowded on trains and in elevators everyone is very, very polite.
My trip is going well and in many ways is better than I thought it would be. I haven't run out of business cards yet but I am well through the freshly printed pack I brought with me.
More another time I get the chance.

It is a very interesting experience to say the least. 12 1/2 hours on a plane is no fun but that's about the worst of the trip. Tokyo skies were mainly blue today and we (my Minnesota colleague and I) think it is very warm. It was a bit of a short notice trip but Mrs Thirdson has been coaching me in Japanese etiquette so I won’t make too many faux pas and will apologize even when not necessary just to be polite.
Will be viewing the board when I can, will return Friday afternoon and get back home Firday morning.

does the marriage of an active jw have to be to another active and practicing jw?
A friend of mine was disfellowshipped for marrying an unbaptized man who was studying. The elders felt his divorce was not for the right reasons and despite this happening before he was contacted by JWs it was enough to get his JW wife disfellowshipped.
It was not the best start to her wedding.

i've been seeing a very nice guy for two months now, every day, almost every minute.
as you know it can become very obvious when a guy is about to pop the question.. i have been very honest with him about when i'd be willing to marry, which is to say not until i graduate from college which is still a 1 1/2 years away, of course i hear things like "well a couple can wait but be commited right"?.
anyway i've bounced this off of my friends and have several opinions already but i thought i'd ask it here.. how long would you date someone before you considered accepting an engagement ring?
The second time around I took my time even though I was pretty certain that the future Mrs. Thirdson was the right person. We dated for a year and I had known her for about 15 months before I popped the question. When her apartment lease was up she moved closer to me but not in with me even though she spent most of her time over at my house. Having her own apartment meant she could still have time to herself and away from me. We planned our wedding to be about a year after announcing our engagement. We moved it up a month so as not to interfere with her dad's pre-arranged hunting trip (planned more than a year in advance).
There's no need to rush things. Be absolutley sure.

BTW, despite our differences in religious upbringing, culture and age difference we were very compatible according to the scores on the test we took as part of pre-marriage counseling. I think counseling was helpful too.
cause unlike some...i value all opinions..even when they don't agree with me .
so tell me please people....how often do you and your friends sit around saying this: "what other country would you rather live in?
stated of course in this manner: the question is stated in such a fashion as to say that nothing is better than living in the good 'ol us of a.
I moved from the UK to the USA...I guess "out of the frying pan into the fire"... NOT. I fulfilled a dream I had had for 20 years.
BTW I'm off to Japan soon, a sort of rushed business trip. It might be fun, it sure will be different.
Thirdson - (reading up on Japanese etiquette)
my wife had a long drive home from north yorkshire with her younger brother (who is a dub) last night.
she was asking him questions about his social life and was very surprised at his response.
apparently, each week in london some brothers organize raves in various hired nightclubs.
These events were known to be happening when I was a JW living in the UK. At least back as 1994 the WTS in London was aware of these. At one CA in 1994 the CO stated that hundreds of young JWs were living 'double' lives and attending these Witness organized raves. There were held all over the UK and youngs JWs were traveling 100s or miles to attend on Saturday night and some were still managing to get back home on Sunday to attend meetings.
The CO siad that those who wanted to attend these raves could do so but "we" didn't one them in the org anymore...(much applause).
