Question from a dummy (but very helpful if anyone can tell me): Do the members of the GB or anyone that serves get paid?
by FingersCrossed inin the jw-land, are there any of the gb, elders, or whatever posts/people get paid for doing the "good work"?
do they receive any monetary income (in term of salary/allowance/whatever as long as it is $$$) which come from donation aka from the congregation?.

144,000 Ain't Going to Heaven!!!
by The Searcher indon't take my word for it, the gb (d.c.of c.) inadvertantly let's the cat out of the bag with the inspired statements found in these publications.. in these, they categorically claim that "the meek who inherit the earth" are none other than 144,000 + 1.

In Ps. 115:16 states --to Jehovah the heavens belong, but
The Earth he has GIVEN to the SONS of MEN. and daughters. Period.
With all the new light in the New Jersey meeting revelation on the F&DS, if
The awarding of all the belongings of the Son of Men, the masters belongings will go to the GB + selected brothers at headquarters (The faithful ,mostly discreet Slave of 1919 vintage) and
that includes the earth, then
this planet has been staked with the "eight Brooklyn stars" symbol,-- just as surely as the star-spangeld banner was planted on the moon.
It takes real guts to declare yourself to be sealed, practically martyred, and destined to rule in heaven.
It takes real guts to declare yourselfs pending owners of the earth.
It's maker might matter more.

maisha, we dont know that for sure, but just for discussions sake:
The wt - take on this was that
the 144 000 will inherit the earth, they will be the legal custodiants,
absantee land lords if you will.
As propriators, they will allow only those that swear loyalty to the PATKILLBROOK take up temporary and permanent residence.
so: keep your eyes on the price and listen obey and be blessed as tenants on probation of the new EARTH propriators.

"It is so obvious to someone just doing a cursory study of the Bible that they simply have no idea of how to read and understand it, let alone any real insight"

Current JW beneficiaries have inherited a terrible messed- up doctrine dogma and can not make themselfs denounce it. their livelyhood depends on it.
One of the former Presidents, either R-- or R--** called those that point out errors to the them, the elite: "little dogs that snap at my heels", not to be payed attention to.
** not the R&R (Rolls Royce) of bible study for sure.

The real danger of "end times" thinking
by new22day inif the world is going to come to an end doesn't it drain one's motivation to make the world a better place?
is religion just giving people a free pass to apathy and letting them off the hook?
.

end time thinking is benefitial if you
face reality and realize that you really live in Your Own End Time.
I am in a countdown of 5 500 days, based on best survival age in my ancestors ( not counting Adam the mythological).
Do the best for yourself for others in the time before your end, its the only end you are going to have.

Alternative Watchtower
by jonno12225 inheres a thought expereiment.. what do you think the watchtower would be like if it had started in europe instead of america.. in europe at the time of the 1800's you had an interesting period of social, political and scientific change.
womens rights movenment were making strides in bettering their standing in society.
many religious institutions welcomed darwins explanation of evolution over time.. how do you think this back drop would have influenced the religions precursers and founders?

europe is very diverse, but in our neck of the woods, religion was a joke, not to be taken seriously. France too has a healthy dose of anti - clergy sceptisism. of course
way back europeans took their religion very very very seriously, fought decades of wars. willing to die, kill divinely.
One religion usually totally dominated one region. stifling dissent, emergence of enlightenment.
Taken any religion/idea westward across the atlantic still left them intact.
Made in USA --melting-pot--/--crack-pot was the way to go. Mormon, Russelite and other lights.

it is a PBS show and probably can be seen on their web site. I watch him on their Detroit station, but he is also shown at seattle in the early morning.
Tidbits: LA cardinal although implicated in Abuse scandal will vote in pope selection.
most likely new Catholic light: marriage for priests.
Excummunicating of dissenting catholics has not worked.
Most North Am. Catholics ignore rulings from Brooklyn err Rome.
She favors Female pope, says not in her lifetime.
Resgination of pope first sign of liberalisation.
catholic church will not become relevant unless all is put on the table.
