by comforter inone benefit that jws get from being jehovah's people is the knowledge of good hygiene.
before i came to be a witness, i did not think it was important to brush my teeth thoroughly or wash under my arms real good and use deodarant.
i also tended to be a pack rat with a messy car.

I really have to say that there are similarities between JW org and the communist party during the Cold War.
The communist countries ( esp. Soviet and North Korea ) kept saying that outside of their organization, no one can survive because things were so terrible esp. in the U.S. Have you read 1984 by George Orwell? He was a communist, and he wrote that book against all democratic countries esp. the U.S. in 1938 or 1948. However, he ended up portraying the dark side of his ideal society, the communist. Hey, maybe I'll start a thread on that!

Hey, SS, I think we have similar taste in music. Have you tried Adagio for String by Albinoni?
For me it depends on the mood I'm in. I love most of the music all of you have posted here. I love the 3rd movement of Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto No.3 and his Paganini Variation for Piano and Orchestra. I also adore Harmony du Soir by Franz Liszt.

WHY DO THEY IGNORE PEDOPHILIA?
by Mary inwhy do you think the organization, the governing body in particular, are so reluctant to deal with the issue of pedophilia head on?
after all, they'll disfellowship elders without a moments hesitation for adultery, fornication, smoking, doing drugs, gambling, homosexuality, even murder........what makes the issue of dealing with elders who are guilty of one of the worst crimes of all, raping young children, so foreign to them?.
my own opinion is that the organization is just starting to learn how to live in the 20th century.......forget the 21st century; they won't be there for another 80 years.

Mary, it is because of the image and reputation, I'm afraid. And it is not just the WTS, but many cultures did and still do.
Before the 20th century, in Korea, women used to carry a small knife which the handle was usually made with silver. It was for self-defense, and incase of being raped, to commit suicide. I read not too long ago about a woman whose mother was a Korean and father was an American G.I. I don't remember exactly whether she and her mother was abandoned or her father died in a battle. She didn't say whether her mother was raped or not. But she and her mother left in Korea, and her uncle and her grandfather hung her mother to death. They excuted her for being disgraceful to the family. And the worst part was that they did it in front of this young child. Yes, she saw her mom dying. Can you imagine?

your # 3, 4, 5 are especially funny.
For your information, even if you are a notorious apostate, as long as you don't come to the meetings and associating with other JWs, you are not going to get DF'd. According to the WTS, DFing is to keep the congregation clean. So if you don't go to the meetings and dirty the water, you'll be forever JW, technically.

Funny Story

this guy is about as big of an apostate as you can possibly get.
he was born and raised a jw but stopped going as soon as he possibly could and now just about everyone knows he's an apostate.

I think you chose a wrong reason to make the JWs look better. Not that they are the dirtiest, but as you may know the JWs are human, too. There are dirty people in the world, and in the JW organization. The Watchtower mag. encourages to be clean sometimes. But the worldly people get their encouragement on hygene through other means such as TV, newspapers or other secular magazines. I heard many similar cases like Robdar said.
Do you want to say something that make look the JWs better? Well,.....hmmm.......many of them are very loyal to what they believe in ( even though sad to say many times it's what they are told to believe in ), and they are not afraid of talking about it to other people ( well, that, too, many times they are told not to be afraid of ). Hey, but I think no body is perfect, huh?
