Thank you for your posts. I grew up in a culture where everyone thinks you should go to a college right after highschool. But I think I can understand better. Now I have to keep this secret from my parents and brothers. ;-)

Whoa, SJ, I think you misunderstood me. Please read my other comments as well. The matter was not just going to a college, but his psychological well being and financial responsibility.
As I said before, he is afraid of being with people whom he doesn't know well, and he's got 7 members of family ( not including me ) to support. Also he has a job that usually ( 99.99%) requires a college degree.
one of the most interesting things that i have noticed about being a witness is the awe that is given to bethelites.
it seems that if you are a bethelite, you are accorded special privleges in congregations.
you are honored when you visit a hall.

ah....They used to tell me that. But "AHA!!!", I found out that was NOT true.
The earliest one I could find in my CD ROM is a Watchtower article in 1966. And they went on and on for years until 1976. And they said that the people misunderstood them. Misunderstood my foot!!!! ):-(

If they try to preach to you, if I'm in your shoes, I would politely say, "Thank you for your thought", and end it there. And if they try to coerce you to come to the meetings and etc., I would say, "This is not the time or place to talk about it. And you know how I feel about your religion."

She was your dear friend who deserves to be remembered. I know that sometimes JW's funerals could be so preachy. I have attended two funerals at my hall. One was so preachy that it was more like a public talk. I really hated it even though I was a JW in goodstanding. The other one was more about the deceased which made it very personal and warm. So I have to say that it depends on who is going to give the talk. It could get very preachy or it could get very loving.
Of course you should go to your mom's funeral, I think. She is your mommy. If they forbid me to come to my mom's funeral ( I'm DA'd), I would fight for it. Mother and daughter love is a God given gift, and no one, even the WTS, cannot deny it.

LOL...That's very sweet of you, minimus. Thank you, everyone, for your advice.
My boyfriend has some very good qualities that seem to be so unreal to many people. However, he also has a week side, too. Well, nobody is perfect. When I met him first, he told me that he was afraid of meeting new people. Just being with strangers makes him feel very uncomfortable. He has gotten better nowadays. I think that's because he's more confident now.
Well, a part of his confidence came through his big raise, I think. But that raise came when the company thought he was going to college. I don't know whether they are going to cut his salary if they find out that he has dropped. He really need money. His family ( parents and siblings ) is very poor. He has been already supporting his brother and his family. ( His brother has two kids now.) And his parents and another brother need health insurance and some monitary support as well. ( sigh....) I don't know. I think because this is first time that I have to deal with this kind of situation, I kind of feel lost a little. That's why I needed your advice.
