Witnesses NOT a Cult.
by integ init has been mentioned on this board many times that the jehovahs' witnesses are a cult.. this connotation may not ring true with witnesses.
i have mentioned to certain ones that.
the witnesses fit the "definition" of a cult.

I'll go to the Music Teachers Convention in Santa Clara, and see some of my students playing in the recitals. I'll probably attend some seminars and shop for my students. And at the end of the day I'll come home and teach 2 more students, and then I'll be done for the week. I might make some slow-cooked ribs and kettle corn popcorn and watch the fire works on TV with my husband and my brothers.
But on Saturday and Sunday my husband and I will stay at Westin Hotel where the convention is held. ;) We are looking forward to watch the Piano Solo Competition and the Concerto Competition - not to mention enjoying the romantic dinners.

LANDMARK DECISION - Vicki Boer vs Watchtower Society
by Uzzah inas most are aware, vicki boer has been long awaiting a decision to be handed down in a case she started against the society in canada.. the decision was handed down today.
as with any 55 page decision, it will take some time for the legal experts to hash it over and decipher what was said.
but, in a nutshell..... vicki won.

I'm still upset. Why only $5,000? And those elders were "exonorated"? This makes me sick. I'm so sad today. I think I'm gonna cry a little.

"Reinstatement Party" Called Off Per The Society
by minimus ina number of weeks ago, i mentioned how my niece was seeking reinstatement.
well, after all was said and done, the elders allowed her back in.
my brother and his wife were giving her a little "coming back" party with about a total of 35 guests.

She couldn't take being shunned. It mentally got to her.
Poor thing! She needed to have more friends who are not jws.

I have to wonder why she wants to get reinstated in the first place. And whether you have a party or not is your own business, not theirs.

***the mole*** my assembly in san francisco
by the mole in***the mole*** i had my assembly this past weekend and i had to tell my story of a woman i spoke with.
she was a mother standing alone in front picketing the assembly at the cow palace.
her sign interested me so in great risk to my self i walked up to her and spoke with her.

She should have contacted a news media.

Whats the nicest thing anyone has said/done to you?
by SpiceItUp in.
in the spirit of minimus i thought i'd put a positive spin on things.
they say when you surrond yourself with the positive its easier to be positive and vice versa for negativity (no offense to min as i also fully believe that you have to deal with negativity too).... that being said....whats the nicest thing, compliment, gift etc that anyone has ever said or done to/for you?.

Years ago a friend of mine told me, "[as a musician] you are a perfectionist, and you work up to it. That's what I like about you."

I am so hurt. JW friend has disowned me :-(
by Hamas ini got to hear some real bad news
i was speaking to my 'best friends' sister only minutes ago.
my 'best friend' i used to do everything with.

Hamas, I'm sorry to hear that.
I guess its a fine example of Watchtower love ; once a 'friend' leaves, he becomes an enemy
Yup, I'm experiencing that, too, for myself.
But remember that suicide bombing is not an option.

Disfellowshipping
by larc ini have read many stories here about those who have been disfellowshiped.
they express the pain of the experience, and the emotional trauma they experience.
i have to ask a question.

gumby, I second to all the things you said here.
I really never knew the consequences. I have encountered with some DF'd ones when I was still a jw. It seemed to be so stupid just to ignore them and still saying that "we love them". To those inactive ones I still said, "Hi" and had some conversations. To DF'd, (sigh) I never got to see them again.
I see jws time to time at a local bank or at a hospital. I always initiate the conversation. One time I was greeting to an elder at the bank who came with his wife and another jw. Because I was talking to the elder, he responded,"Hi, how are you?" But his wife, who was very close friend fo mine for my jw years, ignored me. I was invisible to her and to other jw.
The most thing that upsets me is when they pressured my mom to shun me and when they give me cold shoulder, not just ignoring me, but I could really feel the hostility.
By the way, larc, they (jws) never fully explained to me about the DF or DA. They just told me that they "don't associate with them." Hey, but you and I know that it has rather broad meaning to that.
