That's exactly the first thought I had upon reading that child abuse policy.......it really stinks. It's still a policy of non-action,non-direction,non-assistance to folks they're supposed to be helping. Really, despite the verbiage,thats no change. my kids recently met my older brother.
they took photo's.
i had forgotten that they'd seen him and i was thumbing thru my daughter's pictures and came across a picture of my brother with my daugher and one with my son.

I empathize with you hun. Probably been about 15 yrs now since my sister has spoken or bothered to look at me. She decided I wasn't worthy way before I even left the WTS. I saw her at a funeral not long ago.She walked(as she always does) right by me.
I looked at her and said to myself,'yanno,I don't even KNOW this person anymore,and I don't want to anymore'.
It hurt a lot at first. But not for a long time now. I learned to 'let her go',along w/ other family members who manifested the same warped behavior.
I agree w/ waiting here. They're really walking billboards for the WTS. And believe me,it never goes unoticed by others at such functions. I look at it rather postively now. She and the others do more for keeping many out of the WTS than anything I could ever say or do. For that,I'm grateful.luv,Tina

teejay 's righteous indignation most likely spoke for a few us.It did for me anyway. You don't need logical philisophical guidance to address the issue,just some education,sensitivity and a broader worldview on this issue. And I believe that the responses you got show this isn't taboo.People will share and tell you experiences and knowledge of this that you don't seem to be aware of.

You are assuming a lot here regarding people's attitudes and motivations. What makes you think folks like me can't be impartial? You don't know backgrounds,situations. I have no anger.What I have is a sense of justice, a sense that things can be changed for the better.A sense that awareness creates prevention.

Yes,child sexual abuse cuts thru all groups and social strata.
Since this board is about JW's and their issues,who better than former/present members of this org. to expose this heinous problem that exists. This in an org. that continually claims to be ' Jehovahs clean org.'.
Who better to advocate for justice and protection of abuse victims and survivors than those who know how this org operates?
You also don't get that this begins by exposing their problem and creating awareness that this is happening in their so-called clean org.
Silence is the sexual predators greatest strength and tool. Blowing it off as happening all over is the height of apathy and ignorance.
sites such as silentlambs are a pro-active technique in creating awareness and exposing the rotten policies that only serve to re-victimize members and families affected by these.
