Hey Danny
Thanks for responding. Well, I'll be looking at city of Chgo park district schedule as they sponsor many free events, music, day tours and such. The Historical society has free events going on as well. Then there are the events sponsored by every ethnic group you can think of. A great way to learn about other cultures. Dan and I are going to try to squeeze a week away somewhere. Sometimes we have to physically remove ourselves from our enviornment to get the needed re-energizing lol. Otherwise we find ourselves always 'doing'.:D
(((((((((MD))))))))))) I know what you mean. Tight budgets here too. There is so much going on here it's usually just the price of bus fare. And all the museums charge just a few bucks to get it. So many options. I never played D&D,always wanted to give it a try. It looks like intense role playing. Sounds fun!
I'm going to spend more time outdoors this year(weather permitting)
((((((((Pat))))))) Boy is that so true!! Being able to do things on the week end guilt free! That nasty wts guilt pretty much took the fun out of our free time didn't it. It sure does feel good to have the enjoyment back into things. Luv to all,Tina
welcome to the board, lauralisa.. you've been through so much and i'm glad you found us.
you mentioned that your husband got custody or your children.
did you get them back after you left the borg?
Hi Ob!
Thanks for posting this as I welcomed Laura in the survey thread and dont know if she saw it.
I agree OB,the gb and others live in a distorted reality. They and long-time bethelites wouldn't know what to do in the real world. regards,Tina

Greetings Everyone,
Do we,can we,make time for ourselves?
Many of us exiting the WTS were limited and restricted regarding our free time/vacation activities. Most activities didn't meet with WTS approval for various 'reasons'. "Worldly associations,is it 'wholesome'?(meaning wts approved, and I HATE that word now lol)being a few.
In fact many of used that time to aux pioneer. Attending conventions was the only real highlight. Our lives and free time were
planned around these events.Worse yet,we used our vacation time to tour bethel(yes it was fun and recreational to visit a book factory, major eyeroll here lol)
With our 'exit' we can now rediscover our world fully and without guilt.
Relaxation, making time for ourselves can be put under the rubric"taking care of ourselves'.
It is necessary to make this time to recoup our energies and refresh our outlook on life. It is a sorely needed counterpoint to our busy and hectic lives.
Recreation can be individual, active,or a group activity. Essentially anything that engages us wholly,is the characteristic of recreation.
When we make this time we live in the present and can neither worry about the future or relive yesterday.
So,what activities have you rediscovered? What 'fun' activity have you always wanted to engage in but felt restricted in the past?
What vacation, downtime experiences can you share that renewed you?
Warm regards to all,Tina
it seems like to me the majority of people who are in the truth, are were in the truth was a result of either a family member are a friend witnessing to them and not many seem to have been found in the door to door work.. from my years of associating with the borg i cannot recall many coming in the truth from the door to door work.. how were you sucked in?
for me it was my aunt who has now even though i am not disfellowshipped decided to write me out of her will to the tune of about $150,000.00 (maybe i should hang around a couple more years)dont think i will.. please respond .
thanks.
(((((((((((lauralisa))))))))))))))I was especially moved by your story and wanted to welcome you aboard!! Looking forward to hearing more from you.hugs,Tina
caring for the needy not!
when i first became a jw in the late 1960s and all the years thereafter, the watch tower society would frequently boast about the loving care and concern that jws show among themselves, providing for the needy during disasters, even helping the world.
the society would publish in the magazines, or comments at conventions about how the world observed our efficiency and overwhelming spirit of giving.. what about the rest of the year?
Yeru,
You are absolutely right! They don't have a soup kitchen for their own poor, and believe me there are many in that org.
I read another article a while back -I forgot what the situation was(not kobe) and it crowed and patted itself on the back for how it 'assisted'. Showed a pic of a truck with the wts insignia. And when reading the article-it said they looked for Jw's to help.
What they did and they should have been embarrassed to show a pic like that is pass up any and all the ailing, elderly, mothers with babies and children on this same road, because they weren't JW's. DISGUSTING How do they sleep at night? When I read their article l,I felt ashamed all over again, that I was ever any part of that org. hugs,Tina
today for work, i was scheduled to attend a training session called "mandatory reporting".
since i work in the public sector and i work for children (as a child support collections officer) i am mandated by state law to "make a child protection report if [i] know or have reason to believe that: a child is being neglected or abused; or has been neglected or abused in the preceding three years".
(quote from the handbook passed out at meeting).

Thanks for this info! I too, am interested in the legal definition of employed in this instance.
Does ecclesiastical privilege end when others are in danger> In mental heath there is the Tarasoff ruling that privilege ends when public danger begins. I wrote about this law a while ago on h20. Would Tarasoff apply in this case Harmony? Thanks again for the timely info, luv ya,T
i'm having a crisis in my family and really need some advice and even (((())))!.

daughter is 28-yrs-old.

You're sounding 'up" !
Yanno the prayer at the end bothered me too. So all I did was stand out of respect. No one ever asked why. They pretty much adhere to live and let live.
Essentially,I ignored the ending prayer cuz there is so much to get out of the rest of the meeting. :> They've got mtgs for the agnostic/atheist too, But that's something for later-the important thing is you found one accesible to you. I think of it like a meal patio, I eat the meat and veggies(main mtg) but skip the desert(prayer) lol
And that's perfectly OK...Wishing you continued strength and I know you will find a nicer 'sparkling' middle place. If you want to ask about it,vent,or just get a hug and encouragement,my addy is [email protected] luv always,Tina
ADDENDUM-I for got to mention, once you see the mtg is about to end,you can leave before they do that prayer thing. I did that many times. T
