i don't think i will never join another organized religion.
that being said however, i have enjoyed going on occasion to non-denominational churches, watching the band play music, and the speaker.
if you did or would attend another church regularly, which one would you go to and why?
As others have said in this thread, I'll never join a church.
I will say though, I have started praying, something that I haven't done in a very long time, but that's where I leave it. My spirituality is something that is between me and my higher power. I don't need anyone to force their standards and judgements on me.

Joelbear, I am truly sorry if I offended you in some way. That was not my intention at all. Talking about my fathers suicide is something that does not come easy. Nothing is easy about it and the suivivors left behind find themselves grieving alone. I can talk about my mothers breast cancer to others all day long....talk about her chemo treatments, but let me start talking about my fathers depression and watch the people squirm. It's something you learn real fast not to impose on others. The way I had to deal with it was to find a support group where others had lost someone to suicide. I sat and listened to others talk about their mother cutting her risk and her daughter finding her in the bathtub, a mother hearing her son shooting himself on the other end of the phone because he couldn't deal with OCD, a woman taking a overdose of pills because she couldn't deal with Anoexia and her husband finding her dead, blue and swollen. I watched my father turn blue right before my eyes with blood stain and brain remains on the side of his head. For me to be going through the pain of hating what my father did is not selfish. I wish he could have known that there were options for him. Suicide is a ugly thing and believe me the grief one experiences is different than any other kind of death. I've seen first hand how it has destoryed families. Depression is treatable and pain is treatable. Since my fathers suicide, I have went through many periods of depression because of what he did and I've had to be hospitalized twice for it, but suicide is something that I will never do because I know what it does to the ones left behind. This world is tough sometimes, but that's when we have to get tougher, take responablity for ourselves. If I get depressed, I ask for help. If I get sick, I go to a doctor. I'll never put my friends and family through what my father put me through. Never.

New York, unfortunately probably nothing! Home-schooling is becoming more and more popular, especially in the big cities where the crime rate is higher. We don't live in a big city, just the opposite, in a smaill country town. These poor kids are going to be socially retarded and poorly educated!

Robin1 and Shakita, I'm so sorry that you had to experience that on 9/11. I know from where I sat, it was in no way a comparison to what you went through. Unless you were there, you just can't imagine what it was like. It's still hard to believe it happened.

As I look back on my dad's suicide in 1996, I can understand a lot of things more clearly ,he was 73 and a very sick man, but it doesn't compare to the sickness that he left behind. All his pain was transferred over to his family. We had to carry the burden of asking ourselves why, feeling quilty, wondering what part we played in his decision, shock, nightmares, grief like on other. Suicide is so terrible because of the violent nature usually involved. He shot himself in the head in front of my mother. Then I watched him die as they turned off the ventalater. I watched my mother suffer for two years afterwards with cancer, she went downhill real fast after that. When someone in your family completes suicide, the chances of you completing suicide rises also because of the intense trama it leaves behind. The grief process is long and hard and you're never the same.

I was at my j.w. sisters home *briefly, because of a family matter* the other morning. She home-schools her children. It was late in the morning and her children and her husband were piled up in the livingroom watching a movie!!! I didn't say anything, but it bothered me that they were not in school, or at least studying their home-school material. Makes me wonder what office building her children will be cleaning in the future!!!
