  In my household, we have followed this story somewhat. We watched the interviews with Larry Graham, the artist and Shaka Kahn, saw the video with the Artist in disguise being "witnessed to" and accepting the New World tract from two sisters.

  None of the elements here should be a surprise. Evidently Prince and his wife have experienced some deep heartache recently with the loss of their child. Brother Graham, besides being a musician, seems to be a kindly, sincere, persuasive person.

  But along with Comf and others, this religious connection is doomed from the get-go. Prince will eventually have dealings with elders more rigid and less tolerant than Larry Graham. The myriad organizational rules and regimentation will most likely wear on him.

  It will certainly be an interesting story to watch.

  ps Its interesting that TAFNAP would take a stand on cursing. Allegedly, Larry Graham walked out of one of the Artist's concerts a while back because of the language.

  Who are the wicked?

  By Watchtower definition: everyone in here, including Fredhall(guilt by association, a sharer in their wicked works)

  All DF'd and DA'd who die unrepentant in that state

  All those who fail to respond to the "Good News" by Harmageddon, who had a chance, didn't live in China, were of sound mind and body

  All babies born to such ones who fail to reach the "age of understanding" and dedicate their lives to Jehovah God, the Father, through his Son, Jesus Christ with the aid of the Holy Spirit

  I abort this post now to hear your thoughts.

  Usually, its better to lower expectations, than to raise them unrealistically.

  Of course, there are lawyers who will take almost any case on contingency.

  But in the final analysis, the liability will be placed at the door of the hospital employee and the deep pockets of the hospital and the multi-national religious corporation will be protected.

  Marrying "Only in the Lord"

  the wt definition of "only in the lord" meaning only dedicated witnesses of jehovah in good standing greatly narrows the field of eligible mates.

  this has brought about some unusual unions because of the circumstances, involving people who would ordinarily not meet, let alone marry, if it were not for a shared belief system.. what unusual couplings have you seen in your jw days?

  how large was your personal field of possibilities and did it include some unusual options?

  In 1972, the 18 year old son of an elder in an adjoining small, rural congregation fell in love with a petite 35 year mother of five sons. Despite his father's objections, the young man married the sister, becoming a step-father to her sons, the eldest being just a year his junior.

  Mature beyond his years, the young man became a real father to the boys, weathering several behavioral problems and one severe psychiatric one. The couple still appears to be happy and the kids have grown and moved on.

  In 1965 a flighty redhead from the Texas with a high school knowledge of Spanish, attended an assembly in Mexico. She was smitten by a suave brother, who had served at Bethel for 15 years and now was in business. They were married and moved to the states. Brother H. had an aristocratic bearing, genteel and mannerly, and by all accounts was extraordinarily eloquent in Spanish, but spoke broken English.(Brother H. and I once witnessed in an area on South Padre Island populated by the ultra-rich from Mexico-homes beyond belief. Householders recognized his breeding and class, the response being overwhelming) Sister H. never missed an opportunity to publicly correct her husband's English pronunciation and belittle him. The marriage ended after 5 years.

  What do these two experiences prove? Nothing. Except the obvious narrow field most of us have chosen our mates from, choices not based on compatibility, similar career interests or talents, but the mere fact we are breathing, marriagable JW's.

  Answered prayers

  looking back over many years of prayers, i cannot pinpoint any time when i felt, unequivocally, that i had received a personal response to my prayers.

  can anyone here relate any experiences where you have felt that god answered prayers for you?

  Is this "Oldhippie" of Witnet fame? Welcome, my brother!

  Actually, it was an unanswered prayer that was most revealing for me. My mindset, at the time, was along the lines of: "no matter what it is we ask according to his will, he hears us." My son was making his second or third appeal for reinstatement and I was pacing the floor, imploring Jehovah to move the elders to deal with him in a kindly way. I felt it inappropriate to ask for reinstatement, but I thought to ask for kindness would certainly be "according to his will."

  My prayer was, to say the least, unanswered and that was extremely unsettling for me.

  a small portion of Mr. Angry's words on the options facing the GB:

  "Become even more fundamental, tightening their grip furhter. In which case they still stand to lose thousands who finally get fed up with the ever restrictive lifestyle imposed from without. Those who simply can't take anymore of the petty rules on a day to day basis decide to get out before what freedom of thought they have is strangled altogether."

  These words remind me of the Rehoboam incident and I think its the direction the "spirit-directed organization" will go. "My father chastised you with whips. I will chastise you with scourges."

  Relaxation of rules and doing what is right from the heart was given a small go in the early 70's and was catastrophic. There may be some limited "simplification" in the hours spent at meetings and field service, but more actual control of belief and conduct requirements.

  More succinctly put, I suspect those anticipating reform will be disappointed.
