The question is, what will you do with the evidence in front of you?

Starting from a false Premise.
by Phizzy inwe often see "starting from a false premise" enacted on here.
believers will start from the basis that there is a god.. bible believers will start from the basis that it is the word of god in some measure, and worse are jw apologists, they pre-suppose that the first two are a given, and that their beloved property company posing as a religion is god's organization.. none of those premises have been proven, some have been disproven, but we are supposed to go along with them.. now, you may be happy to debate on that basis, in fact it is probably good "exercise", but in the end i find their arrogant, unproven assertions begin to really annoy me, and then i stick in what is known on here as a "cofty", which is a short, succinct comment that points out the big hole in their presentation.. the only thing you find then is, either the apologist cuts and runs, or totally ignores your "cofty".. i think, even if we enjoy debating for a while with such people, at a certain point we need to call them out on their false premise, or premises, otherwise a j.w lurking here may simply accept the words of the apologist and gain nothing in the way of truth..

We all have the same evidence in front of us, we have the same sacred writings, we have to same earth, the same universe, the same fossils, etc... The difference is the way we view such evidence and how sometimes we are not willing to accept the evidence in front of us, for example the same technology and understanding we use to authenticate writings from antiquity is good. But when we use the same technology and find the earth is not 6,000 years old, that we did not have a global flood, that the account of Genesis cannot be true, the theist will simply dismiss it as inconclusive and faulty technology. Ironic isn't it?

Question to atheists: if there is no creator/god---
by prologos inif you are sure there is no god, do you then believe that we,our minds, are the highest intelligence?
not just of the universe, but the cosmos?.

If science adjusts its view based on observable evidence, that means the previous understanding was based in a false premise. But that false premise was able to guide us to a better understanding.
People forget that what atheists promote is that is very unlikely that a God like the one described in the bible or any other sacred writings from antiquity can be real.

Very well said Kate! For any lurking JW, you have to understand that you have the option to study many different set of beliefs and you can come to your own conclusions. Don't allow anyone of us to impose what we believe is true but do not close yourself to new information, try to learn why the other side thinks and believes the way they do.
Don't feel angry if you come here to debate and have to face hard facts...

The Christian versus the Agnostic
by Separation of Powers ini think by most accounts, my previous posts have testified to my moving towards an agnostic stance.
i just don't know and i can't believe for belief's sake.
i came across a quote i thought quite timely in my journey.. .

This is something I posted a few days ago and is how I view the world from an Agnostic point of view when we talk about God.
I must admit that my journey has brought me to a place that I never thought possible, a VOID. I have held faith in the spiritual world all my life and now I was finally able to pass to other side of the darkness. Many times darkness is associated with evil and yet roughly 70% of the universe is made of dark energy.
I’ve now stepped into the dark room. It seems empty at first but do not think this darkness is artificial vs. the light we think we enjoy as believers. I suspect it is natural and that true enlightenment can be obtained from this blackness. The one thing that bothers me is a sense of VOID or emptiness, but I find myself adjusting to this solitude.
Today I do not censor myself and I am inclined to read fascinating works from believers and nonbelievers. The big difference is that I’m reading this new material in a different light inside the darkness.
