In e.g. Norway, corporal punishment was banned in the mid 80s. All literature of the Watchtower society published thereafter was changed, using non-offensive wording. All existing literature being offered at the doors was altered. The publishers put small adhesive labels into objectionable paragraphs using acceptable wording. Thus the witness culture has indeed changed in this respect, cause it is not at all emphasized, neither in writing nor in word. In fact, it has been said in public talks that corporal punishment is against the Bible. Also in local needs talks it has been stated that no corporal punishment should take place in Kingdom Halls. (When I related this to some American witnesses they were flabbergasted, they did not believe me, almost thinking that the local bethel had turned apostate or something.

In the blue creation book, there are some depictions of life in paradise where someone actually wearing jeans! In a local pamflet on a bethel build project in Europe, a photo with a brother having a T-shirt with a slogan on was retouched before it got to print. I’ve never heard anyone being counselled because of wearing fashion clothes. It varied a lot from circuit to circuit the percentage of those having such clothes though.

WT copyright violation, using others' music as Kingdom Melodies??
by rebel8 indoes anyone remember being taught that the wts got into trouble way back when for using someone else's music w/o permission?
i swear i remember reading or hearing from the platform their excuse that they didn't remember the melody was used by someone else and it was an honest mistake.
something about them using parts of some other church's hymns in the kingdom melodies....something like, "a musician hears many songs and doesn't memorize them all.

While visiting abroad, I was told of a family in that congregation who actuallt did win a six digit price in a lottery. they had a disabled child, so I am quite sure the money was needed. However, they were disciplined for taking part in a lottery... though not DF.

I guess quite often "weak witnesses" or DF witnesses due to "moral" deficiencies often still think it is the truth, and thus are not free from the JWs bondage. Whereas those who have taken a stand because of theological or ethical differences have discarded the JW belief system and might have morally upright lives, even matching JW standards. However, the latter is more abhorred by the JWs because of having abandoned the Truth...

I do remember it, and occassionally sing along too. I got emotionally choked, even when I was an elder... As a sidemark, I think it differs a lot even within Europe. I think the French held "the Marseillaise" in high esteem. Also nationalism is more accepted in Norway, than in e.g. Sweden. "Ja, vi elsker dette landet" (Yes, we do love this country) is sung with pride in Norway, whereas the Swedes might have more trouble with theirs.

Beards are evil, but do you know why?
by free2beme inas a witness, i knew several men who attempted to grow beards.
when they did, and attended meetings, it did not take long to be talked to by elders and told, "as spiritual men, they should not display an outward form of rebellion.
" why was this a form of rebellion?

sorry if I used poor grammar. He had a full beard. In fact, Denmark is so liberal, that sometimes the JWs preach in the nude :-)
