  did you ever notice that people choose their churches according to their status and wealth?.

  that the better dressed people with the finer cars go to the bigger ornate churches located in prominent areas of town?.

  did you ever consider the contrast with the kingdom halls being tucked away out of view and the building being unrecognizable as a "house of worship"?.

  In my homecountry JWs resemble the average general popoulation, perhaps not too well represented among the very affluent, but definitely average.

  A study from America, shows that average household income among american JWs is slightly below the average, but considering that quite a few work less than full time and the percentage of hispanics and afro-americans are substantially higher than national average, this is considered good. Also, the number of American JWs that owns their own house is exactly the same as the national average.

  I have travelled extensively, and visited JWs in many countries, definitely also average... Please bear in mind that in many underdeveloped countries, the number of literate witnesses is way above the national average and thus it might be that their socio economic status might be better..

  Interestingly, a sociological survey made in Britain by Beckford, states that few JWs belong to the working class, and few to the upperclass as well.

  The majority of witnesses are middle class people.

  A Dating Site For Jehovah's Witnesses?!

  i discovered a site called www.jwmatch.com which have pictures of individuals claiming to be jws looking for others jws to date.

  based on the watchtower's anti internet stance and meeting people online, i doubt this website is real.

  has anyone else seen this site?

  Interestingly, in a newly published book by the University Press Publishing House in Norway, that very specific site is mentioned by name as a sign that although being old-fashioned in many ways, JWs sometimes use modern avenues and thus gets modernised.. The author, however, failed to mention that that site is highly unofficial...

  The book it self is very good, it is made up with contributions from more than 10 professionals, giving different angles on JW doctrine, organization, life and culture... A JW is also contributing, allowing the JWs to give a self-presentation.... It is Rolf Furuli who has written that part, he is also coordinator in an Oslo congregation and is working at the University of Oslo.

  In fact, my parents intends to read the book, and that is good, cause it also mentions information not commonly known among regular JWs, e.g. Mexico/Malawi etc..

  The book has come into existence also in cooperation with Brooklyn HQs and the national branch office providing informormation and literature..

  Matthew 24:14 fulfilled

  you've probably discussed this a lot already but i started to have serious doubts when they announced that matt 24:14 was fulfilled.

  even though in 3 countries, i think, (like afghanistan..) it had not been preached in at all and billions of people elsewhere will never hear about jehovah.

  again the answer is probably that jehovah will make the final judgment and he is all justice etc.

  Yes, there are some women lawyers who represent the society in various functions, and writes articles also representing the Watchtower, e.g. Carolyn Wah and also another woman, cannot remember her name.

  but I guess this is ok because it is a non-religious role.

  friday am during keynote address "the wonders of creation reveal god's glory" 32 minute dvd on creation available at the convention.

  friday last talk "sing to jehovah" - new songbook with 135 songs, 42 which are new.

  will start using in january 2010. cong will begin receiving them after september 1st.

  as i went out less and less and less.......i loved the look on the bro at the magazine counter when i said i need three fewer or whatever.....after i did this a few times he said "yeah...several others have had to do the same"......and then i noticed that not only did i bring a huge stack of "back issues" into the hall and place them on the counter when nobody was looking......but there was already a pile there......then i just started trashing them........ahhh.......those were they days...............

  i have been on various boards the past decade.. i cannot help but see that in some respects, esp.

  american jw ism is more extreme than its scandinavian counterpart, perhaps both ways.

  of course this also has to do with the fact that in american society, religion plays a far greater role than in scandinavia... but it seems that its practiced in a more stern way in some parts in the u (e.g.

  And also accepted in the Netherlands and Ireland I´ve been told.

  Therefore, it is not that strange that the elder in the Danish film Worlds Apart (To verdener) is wearing a beard, although his length of wair is somewhat long even by Danish JW standard, I´d presume.
