I guess it is more fair to state that whatever each tax payer pays goes back to the community that individual belongs to...
Quite a lot of the Swedish watchtower surplus is being sent out of the country....
quite recently, watchtower in sweden applied for governmental financial support, as they are entitled to as a registered religious community.
however, the government declined to accept the application, stating that the reason was that the jws do not adhere to democratic values and standards and do not support mainstream values.. the witnesses are upset, because they feel discriminated against.
they state that the financial issue is not the real issue, but to be treated in a similar way as other religious communities.. they have appealed the decision and plan to send a report explaining the witnesses views in more detail.. the branch office chose the religious, pentecostal (assembly of god) newspaper "dagen" to make an interview.. here is the photo report of the article.. .

Inasmuch as I disagree with the Watchtoer society, I am in favor of giving them the same rights as other belief communities as long as they are registered and accepted as such. That is a matter of principle.

BTW. JWs have received governmental support (actually the government pays the same amount per member to all registered belief communities as they do to the State Church, so it is a kind of tax being paid back to the religious community) in Norway for many years...

I and some other teenagers once complained about elders drinking too much... Result: we are threatened with DF if speaking about it.... The wife of one elder did not speak to me for half a year
I pointed out to an elder that having champagne breakfasts was improper (Yes, I suppose I was overly righteous)... ;-)
I scorned an elder stating that I was happy not being brought up as a child within the JWs while I was an elder myself (got bad conscious and apologised to the PO for stating this)... He had the guts to state that us having babies/small kids could not feed them during the meeting cause it was written in a Kingdom Ministry article that it was improper to eat and drink during a meeting. I was furiously mad at him.

Some have said that a country might be judged on how they view human rights on how they treat JWs...
I guess the treatment fits russia pretty well.. Because human rights are not held in such a high esteem there.
barbara wanted me to post this info she shared recently at a speech she gave at a seminar.
all comments welcome.
peace out .. .
Also in general it seems that the most extreme cases, whether it be "scandals" or extreme severeness, takes place in the US... In e.g. Norway, only 2.6 per cent attend church on a weekly basis, so I guess also JWs are less "militant".

The essay was well written. However, I do agree that some points were unduly exagerrated. But perhaps the American version of JWism fits to that description. After all the outcome of less education, pension planning et is more visible in a country like the US with is not so developed when it comes to taking care of the welfare of its citizens.

I guess the socalled supersecret Watchtower non-public edition cannot be that secret after all.
Everybody can upload it from the societys own site.
