  European Court to favor the WT and condemns the French goverment

  unfortunately, the european court of human rights has just condemned the french government against jehovahs witnesses.

  if you recall, the french state was claiming 23 million euro (abt 33 million us dollars) taxes on contributions received by the french watchtower during the years 1993-96, which, by now, had climbed to about 58 million euro (abt 83 million us dollars) counting interests and charges.. it is not easy to size the wt.

  According to the PR site of the Watchtower, the following is stated: Throughout this case, Jehovah’s Witnesses argued that the discriminatory taxation had been imposed with the purpose to cripple the worship practiced by over 123,000 of Jehovah’s Witnesses in France. It was one of the many steps taken by anti-sect parliamentarians to mischaracterize and marginalize Jehovah’s Witnesses. Today’s decision by the court sends a strong message to the government of France that it must uphold the right to religious freedom for all its citizens.

  The newspaper has obviously used the memorial attendance as a reflection of the number of adherents.

  will there be a new generation of kids hearing about smurfs running out of kingdom halls, and will they be told about it by the overlapping generation?.

  for those who have missed the danish movie about a" coming of age" witness girl and her subsequent problems that follow,the movie will be shown this coming wednesday night on victorian tv aust.. if you haven`t seen it i would recommend it.

  it really hits home about the shunning of baptized family members.

  Funny, while visiting the US as part of a holiday back

  in the late 80s I attended a Sundey meeting in that very hall.. We did not meet Rebbie though,

  cause they were not attending the meeting that Sunday.

  has your perspective of the royal family, her majesty the queen, the national anthem, and maybe politics in general, changed since you left the borg?.

  even if you're not british, would you say you are more patriotic now?.

  When Charles and Diana got married in 1981, Awake! ran a number of articles on the Future of the British Monarchy, with drawings of the married couple.

  Diana was also in Awake another time, I think it was on an issue dealing with land mines. I remember it well.

  I was appalled and sad to see this happening. My last memorial attendance was in 2003. I left at great cost, still this attack brought tears to my eyes... Those protesters were simply so primitive....

  It is kind of funny, but it seems that American JWism is more extreme than its Scandinavian counterpart.

  I guess because fundamentalism and religious extremism is way more widespread over there anywhere and
  puritanism and prudity have much more support there anyway.

  right now the watchtower website features a highlightes question on how the meetings of jws are conducted.. they quote from the "require" brochure.

  there it is stated that they have meetings three times a week.. funny they don t make sure it is correct when published online.... .

  Russia: JW convicted over refusing blood transfusion for her 5 year old son

  in a first, a court convicted a member of the jehovahs witnesses religious sect over her refusal to sanction blood transfusion for a relative, a procedure banned by the sects teachings, interfax reported wednesday.. natalya podlozhevich was fined 5,000 rubles ($170) by a magistrate of the khanty-mansiisk regions town of kogalym, which found her guilty of abandoning in danger her 5-year-old son.. the unnamed boy was hospitalized last february in serious condition, the cause of which was not specified.

  medics said he required blood transfusion, but his mother refused to sanction the procedure.

  How do you know that most of the JWs in Eastern Europe are dirt poor? I did read a survey that showed that the level of education among JWs in e.g. Latvia was substantially higher than in the US.-....

  watch 1974 p.167 "by disobediently overindulging in food and making a glutton of himself, he fails to show love for jehovah...if in the presence of others does he selfishly ignore there needs and take more than his share?

  is he grossly overwieght but shows no restraint at all as to food, habitually gorging himself?

  does he feel un-comfortable, perhaps even sick because of eating too much ...glutton has no place in god's congregation...they will not inherit god's kingdom...".

  Once again an American phenomenon... Scandinavian JWs are not at all fatter than the general population, perhaps vice versa.
