I do understand. My statements on the Watchtower Societys efforts and lack of response was ironical... Sorry you did not grasp that. I do not support them whatsoever, only reported some facts.

Interestingly, the official sites of most religions advocate their relief efforts and makes it possible to donate money to aid the tsunami victims, e.g. cathlic.org, lds.org and sda.org The main topic on the Watchtower site is Sand Dunes in Poland, the jw-media site did state a statement on witness activities worldwide in the year of 2004 by T. Jarazc. Not a word is mentioned on the tragedy. (There are altogether three items on humanitarian efforts on their media-site (Liberia, Goma and Houston). It seems the watchtower society as the means to allow their followers to donate online, e.g. jw-gift.org site... so if they wanted it they could use this way of donating. Since the number of witnesses are small in the affected areas, I suspect the relief efforts will be accordingly. According to the Kingdom Ministry, believers are adviced to send their donations to their local banch, without specifying which area the money should be spent, just to the world-wide-work.

Are You a "Mess" Since Leaving The Organization or Are You OK?
by minimus inmost people have left the organization because of emotional issues.
the feeling that there is no real love or fellow feeling seems to get at people.
it gnaws at them.

I am glad I?m out of it, although it has been a long journey.
However, at the moment I am not able to fully appreciate it,
cause other (even more serious) problems are overshadowing it. -

How Do You View Pets - new article
by puppylove inhas anyone read this?
i had it shoved in my face in the subway at 42nd street this morning by the jw drone who stands there.
as usual, i controlled my urge to kick her, but the title of the article caught my eye, pet lover that i am.. i would assume it lays a load of guilt on anyone who holds their pet in high esteem..

I just skimmed through the article. It did not, as far as I saw, portray such a negative attitude as suggested above. However, keep in mind that Awake is also aimed at the mainstream public much more so than the Watchtower. An article in the Watchtower entitled: Beware of the danger of Pets would have had a different angle, I?d suppose!

I remember in a life story published in the Watchtower, that a brother wanted to name his child "Placenta". I guess he wasn?t to well-informed...

WT: Three ways a woman can improve her lot
by Sirona inthis is on the watchtower's website.
there seems to be a lot more articles aimed at africa and other places where this advice might be useful, but do they honestly give this sort of stuff out in us and uk?.
three ways a woman can improve her lot.

All articles publshed on the web-site, have been published in the magazines. There is a foot-note or something similar referring to the time when it was published the first time. It seems that virtually all articles (whether they target that language-group or not) is published in all editions of Awake (of course a selection is made in languages with 24-pages and monthly editions).

What's Your Favourite Font?
by dh inmaybe some of you write, or work in publishing, design etc, are there any fonts that you choose to use because they feel better, do you change the font before you begin writing a document, or at the end?
for writing i love to use tahoma, i type pretty quick and the way the letters appear on the screen in tahoma is very much more fluid than other fonts out there, and if you're writing a lot, or creatively, i think it makes an enormous difference... was tahoma designed to be easy on the eyes?
for bold stuff i love the font rockwell, dunno why, i just like it.

I like Gill Sans. Its from the 20s, but still looks modern. It has many styles. Antique fonts: several, but not Times...

Abuse; congregational reactions in Norway
by TheOldHippie inthe swedish program was televised in norway on monday, and yesterday the congregations received a letter from the branch, responding to some of the accusations of the program.
let that be as it is, but the letter also pointed to how the elders of norway would react to child abuse, and the reactions here do not deviate much from what you would like them to be:.
1. if a child claims it has been abused by a member of the congregation (or someone else) and tells it to her parents (and they choose not to tell it to the elders from the start), it is their privilege to report it to the police, that is entirely up to them if they choose to do so or not.. 2. if they tell it to one of the elders, that elder - or the group of elders - has to report it to the police, it is mandatory.

There are quite a few things that differ in Norway from other countries, as far as JWs are concerned. E.g. all references to corporal punishment, e.g. spankings, are non-existent in Watchtower literature in Norwegian. In fact, when this law was implemented, all references to spanking etc. was removed physically in the literature by witnesses who applied small labels in the literature with alternative, less offensive rendering instead. Also, due to privacy laws, the Norw. Bethel is not allowed to keep records on DF issues. This applies also to congregations.
