What’s the big deal. Most witnesses wouldn’t mind watching belly dancing in Europe...

Deny this! Brooklyn! I dare you
by stevenyc ini'm to angry right now to write a complete synopsis on the following article from the watchtower.
it regarding child molestation and repressed memories.
i'll put in one quote, and leave this rest for you to read at your leasure.. ps, probably worth copying this because i would be surprised if they will leave it up much longer!.

I remember this article very much. In fact it upset quite a few in the congregation. They said they were deprived of their joy because of this. In fact, it created such a stir that several elders, incl. myself, felt impelled to write a letter to the branch office raising our concern. We made our objections to the article in a clear languae, albeit in a respectful manner of WTerism-language. They did not even reply to it.... However, I remember boycotting that issue of the WT, not delivering it to my magazine routes or offering it while out in service. (Incidentally, it was an issue with an angel crying out a message in front of it, and also the new understanding of the generation if I my memory serves me right.

Becoming a woman...
by Rubyvixen ini remember when i was around the age of 10 or 11, there was a book that jehovah's witness parents used in family bible study that had two versions (one for male, one for females) or maybe there was one and it just had chapters and i am remembering wrong.
i do remember vividly having to endure the rather male dominated view of what happens when a young woman enters adolescence and what a young woman has to look forward to in her 'duties' as a loyal wife and mother serving her husband *gags*.
does anyone remember that?

I remember placing that book with a fellow school mate. He got so made when coming the 4th chapter on Masturbation that he threw the book in the floor... I wish I never have read and applied it... It is not normal for a boy to go years without masturbating. glad I am enjoying it now though.

JWs are not a cult................
by vitty in...............or so i thought.
when you were an active jw, how did you feel when ppl accused you of being a cult !!!!!!!!!
and do you think its a cult now your out ?
-

It is definitely a high-control group. I also remember the Watchtower dealing with JWs being accused of being a cult as a front page topic. I think it was an answer to a "60 minutes" broadcast in the US. Almost at the same time, witnesses in a Scandinavian country were approached by headlines in almost all major newspapers for days with attacks. And it was also aired on national radio and TV. If the same amount had been launched in the US, it would have created waved indeed. However, the few thousands witnesses in a remote country, who would care about them? Quite often, the witnesses just responded with no comments. I guess the start of me departing started then (early 90s). I didn’t managed until a few years ago though.

To me to be honest, some of the things explained here, seems to exceptions. At least in my experience, few, if any I know have experienced anything that bear resemblence to the things explained here. But, perhaps, we’re more lax about things in Europe...

Demographics within WTS
by Dune ini asked an elder when i was younger if the society had a census on who was in the organization.
things such as race, gender, age and wealth (kind of hard to find for the last) he told me no.
he said that the only thing that the only thing that was reported to brooklyn was who was baptized and if someone was disfellowshipped.. do you think theres a reason they dont tell us the women to men ratio or am i just looking to deep into this?

In fact, a big survey was made in Germany among more than 140,000 witnesses. I think it showed that some 39 per cent of believeres were male, and 61 per cent female. It even stated statistics on percentage of those who received beenfit from state compared to the general population, and also educational and income level

I’ve been to HQ as well as touring 11 branch offices. The German was the best, far more modern and up to date than HQ, which I found a bit "old-fashioned". The French and Italian were slightly more disorganized than the German and Austrian counterpart. (Interesting sidenote: I had visited the old as well as the new Austrian Branch. In the old branch they had some really ugly, brown curtains in the reception area. In the new bethel I discovered them in a closet re-used for some storage things.. So they at least re-cycle things. The best reception ever was at the Greek bethel, where I was treated with lunch and white wine! The boys played outside, and most men did not wear ties. It was the most relaxed, the German was the strictest...

My wife and I left partly for allowing our kids a normal childhood. They have enjoyed it tremendously. Other people have told us that they have become more relaxed since adjusting to the world... when we first had our birthdayparty, I hung close to 30 balloons around the house (normally most people hang up three... as to compensate for the years lost :-)
