That's a good question. I go to a women's college, so meeting guys at school isn't really an option. I'll have to keep an eye on this thread for ideas.

I had thought I had gotten over all this crap.
by pamkw inthis has been a very bad couple of weeks for me.
i thought i was having a fairly okay relationship with my mother, and even though she was not happy with me not being a jw anymore, she seemed to live with it.
i have even recently been able to have conversations with my jw younger sister and not come away angry.

((((( Pam ))))) I am sorry you are struggling, but it is good that you are able to articulate how you feel and confront it. One of the most difficult things to learn in life is that our family members are people too and they will not always play the roles we need or want them to play in our lives. We can't tell them what to do, but I wish you the strength and endurance you will need to get through this as an individual--regardless of whether or not they decide to change. Keep your head up and vent about it as much as you need to. That is what we are here for.

Well It's time for me to leave.

nothing to worry about, but it put me out of physical action for the last two weeks.

Even where the truth may hurt (somewhat) one individual, all of humanity benefits whenever a lie is layed to rest. We are one step closer to civilisation.
I agree. Truth is an agent of evolution. Even when it hurts, pain and recovery from such pain are opportunities to become a better person and challenge your mind to realize new ideas. One of the worst errors, in my opinion, is for a person to underestimate their own ability to change and improve (especially in response to hard truths).

If appearance matters to you, tell your partner from the start so that he/she knows that this is important to you and can decide whether or not he/she still desires to further the relationship with you. After that point, you are justified in being upset if your partner changes his/her appearance because you notified the person within reasonable time for him/her to move on without being seriously hurt.
With that said, I personally don't care about the shape of someone's body and would not further a relationship with someone who was that concerned with appearance. Beauty AND health come in all shapes and sizes. So, if I were married and my husband were to lose weight, gain weight, lose all his hair, and/or his teeth I wouldn't care because beauty emanates from within and seeing a person evolve is part of love.
Admittedly, I would be upset if my partner developed habits that were detrimental to his health, like smoking or drinking excessively, but that is different from weight gain/loss. Fluctuations in weight happen naturally. Unhealthy habits, even if they are a response to stress, come by choice. Bad eating habits (I don’t mean going to McDonald’s, I mean serious eating problems) can be included in this category, but I would not be upset by the physical change. I would be upset that my partner was endangering his health. -
